Chapter 35 The Wu family's gratitude

Brother Wu lowered his head under his mother's stern gaze, tugged at his wife's clothes, and gestured for her to tone it down.

Not only did Sister-in-law Lu not restrain herself, but she intensified her demands: "What? You made so much delicious food just for those two good-for-nothings? Mom, I'm not trying to be mean, but you're really not good at managing money. All this should be saved for our Xiao Qiu; he's your eldest grandson!" He's their only son, and they don't even cherish him? Is that fair?

Bling frowned upon hearing this; yet another one whose family has a throne.

Just as Aunt Wu was about to say something, Uncle Wu slammed his hand on the table: "Either get out, or shut up!" He's embarrassing Xiao Bu in front of him.

Everyone at the table trembled in fright.

Sister-in-law Lu was also scared, but she felt she had done nothing wrong, and stubbornly shouted, "What did I say wrong? Why give the good food to outsiders instead of your grandson? What kind of logic is that?"

Grandpa Wu looked at his eldest son and noticed that he was keeping his head down and not saying anything. He knew that his son thought the same thing, and he was very disappointed in him.

"What kind of logic is that? Just because Buling introduced a job to your sister, does she not deserve a meal?" Old Wu said, exasperated.

"What?" Brother Wu and Sister-in-law Lu exclaimed in unison.

Then, they all looked up at Wu Yuanyuan, and then at Bu Ling.

Wu Yuanyuan remained expressionless, while Bu Ling maintained her smile.

After a long silence, Brother Wu asked, "Mom, what kind of job?"

Aunt Wu glared at her son and said, "He works as a kitchen helper in a state-run restaurant."

Hearing this, Sister-in-law Lu's eyes lit up: "Mom, this job..." As she spoke, she gave Brother Wu a wink.

Brother Wu also looked at his parents with anticipation.

Wu Yuanyuan's eyes were full of mockery.

Grandpa Wu said firmly, "This job can only be Yuanyuan's; no one else can even think about it." This concerns his daughter's future, and he's not that foolish. Although he loves his son, his daughter is also his own flesh and blood.

Aunt Wu saw through their scheme and flew into a rage: "Get out! You two, get out of here!" With that, she stood up, grabbed Sister-in-law Lu, and shooed her out the door.

Sister-in-law Lu retorted defiantly, "Mom and Dad, are you getting senile? Daughters are meant to get married and leave home, and jobs are meant to be taken to other families. If you give them to me, I can pass them on to Xiao Qiu, who is the only remaining member of the Wu family."

Grandpa Wu was also furious. He didn't know what to say to his daughter-in-law, so he glared at his son and said, "Give up on that idea. Even if this job doesn't go to Yuanyuan, it won't fall into your hands."

Brother Wu looked at Uncle Wu with a pleading expression: "Dad, the child's mother is right, Yuanyuan is going to get married."

Grandpa Wu shook his head in disappointment: "Even if Yuanyuan gets married, she will still be my daughter. I only have two children, you and your sister. What you have, your sister should also have."

Upon hearing this, Sister-in-law Lu was about to retort when Aunt Wu shoved her out the door, slammed the door shut, and then tried to pull her son away.

Brother Wu didn't dare to argue with his mother, so he could only obediently walk out, thinking that his father was probably just concerned about saving face, and he would talk to him when there were no outsiders around.

After Aunt Wu's son and his companion chased them out of the house, their expressions changed. They sighed wearily, "Bu Ling, you've made a fool of yourself in front of us."

Buling shook her head and didn't say anything; it wasn't appropriate for her to interfere in their family matters.

Grandpa Wu also said, "Let's eat, don't mention those two troublesome people." As he spoke, he looked at his grandson, who was so frightened that he was about to cry, and put a piece of meat on his plate: "Xiao Qiu, eat more."

A five-year-old is easy to please; a piece of meat is enough to bring a smile to his face.

The meal was eaten in complete silence.

Buling was extremely embarrassed. Nowadays, people in China believe in keeping family scandals private, and as an outsider, she felt very awkward seeing other people's family discord.

After finishing her meal, she made an excuse to leave. As for teaching Wu Yuanyuan how to ride a bicycle, she'd do it another day!
