Chapter 357 Poverty Alleviation and Prosperity

"Is this the family of Shen Ci, the top scholar?"

"I am Shen Ci."

As soon as Shen Ci finished speaking, a sprightly old man stepped out from the crowd, and the county party secretary followed behind him, slightly lowering his position.

"Chen Ci, hello. Congratulations on scoring 399 points in the college entrance examination. You are the top science student in our province and a true champion."

The old man reached out his hand to Shen Ci.

Shen Ci politely extended his hand and shook the old man's hand.

A series of clicking sounds rang out.

The reporters following behind quickly pressed the shutter, recording this historic moment.

Then, witnessed by everyone, the old man solemnly handed the Kyoto University admission letter to Shen Ci.

"Well done, young comrade!" The old man patted Shen Ci on the shoulder with satisfaction.

Shen Ci habitually pushed up her glasses, using this action to hide the tears welling up in her eyes. "Thank you."

The old man was knowledgeable and experienced, and naturally noticed that something was wrong with Shen Ci, but he thoughtfully did not expose him.

After delivering the admission notice, the old man, on behalf of the province, gave Shen Ci an envelope as a reward.

After the old man finished, a representative from the city also presented an envelope and said a few words of encouragement. Finally, the county party secretary also presented an envelope and gave him a prize.

The reporters also wanted to talk to Shen Ci's parents, to find out the secret to raising a provincial champion. Would they still have to worry about tomorrow's newspaper sales?

He was somewhat disappointed when he learned that Shen Ci's parents had both passed away, but he quickly cheered up again.

Well, what's even more interesting is the story of an orphan who lost both parents and rose through the ranks to become the top scorer in the province.

Those who work in journalism all have an eye for finding interesting stories.

Thanks to Shen Ci, the provincial champion, the Sang family's courtyard was bustling with activity all day.

It wasn't until dark that everyone reluctantly went home.

Only then did everyone have time to sit down and rest for a while.

After the initial joy, an overwhelming sense of exhaustion washed over me.

In the living room, Sang Shen, Bu Ling, Chen Ci, and the others were slumped in chairs, their eyes vacant and lifeless.

"Gurgle~ Gurgle~"

"I'm hungry," Mulberry murmured.

“Me too!” Bling followed closely.

Although Shen Ci didn't say anything, his gesture of clutching his stomach clearly showed that he was also in pain.

"I'll go get you something to eat," Jiang Wanying said, standing up and heading towards the kitchen.

She didn't join in the fun today because of health reasons, so she's doing okay now and not too tired.

"Thank you for your hard work." Xie Dong leaned on the table, trying to force a smile, but ultimately failed.

There's nothing I can do, I laughed too much today, my lips are so stiff from laughing that I can't laugh anymore.

Jiang Wanying smiled, said nothing, and turned to walk out.

"Sister-in-law Jiang, there are still some frozen dumplings in the kitchen," Bu Ling reminded her.

"Okay, I understand."

Sister-in-law Jiang left, taking everyone's hopes with her, leaving only a few people paralyzed in the living room.

Half an hour later, when Jiang Wanying came in carrying a tray, all she could hear was a gurgling sound coming from the living room.

She couldn't help but chuckle: "Dinner's ready."

In short, the group of people who had been completely drained suddenly sprang to their feet and swarmed toward the door.

Wash your hands and eat!

After eating a round of food, the group finally felt alive again and began their lively chat.

"You're amazing, bookworm! Top scorer in the province! You've really made me proud!" Xie Dong slammed his hand on the table and exclaimed excitedly.

"That's right, that's right, all those books you read weren't for nothing." Sangshen patted Shenci beside him: "When you become successful in the future, don't forget your brothers."

The bookworm picked up a dumpling and put it in his mouth: "You two, tone it down, haven't you said enough yet?"

As soon as Shen Ci said that, Sang Shen and Xie Dong immediately dropped their pretense and came clean, continuing to eat their dumplings with expressionless faces.

"We're just worried you'll be unhappy, aren't we?" Sangshen muttered.

Originally, when they first learned that Shen Ci was the top scorer in the province, he and Xie Dong were so happy that they didn't know what to say. At that moment, they felt an inflated sense of pride, as if the Jade Emperor were their closest friend.

However, what followed was a series of social engagements.

Since Shen Ci is not good at these things, he and Xie Dong, as the bookworm's best brothers, have to step in.

Listening to the waves of people coming and going, praising Shen Ci in all sorts of fancy ways.

In the morning, the two of them listened with pride and great honor.

By the afternoon, all that was left was exhaustion.

Furthermore, the people who came all said almost the same thing, and the two of them could recite it by heart.

Most importantly, they couldn't show any displeasure, since it was a joyous occasion for the bookworms. They could only smile as they saw off one group of people and welcomed another.

After a whole day, my mouth was stiff from smiling, my legs were numb from standing, my brain was numb from using up all my energy, and my body was completely drained.

Even so, this was a joyous occasion for their best friend, and it wouldn't be right for the two of them not to celebrate.

"Eat your food properly," Shen Ci said with a blank face.

Hearing him say that, Sangshen and Xie Dong stopped working and lowered their heads to show off.

Only after the plates and bowls were cleaned and the group had eaten and drunk their fill did they have a bowl of dumpling soup. The soup helped them digest the food, and only then did they feel alive again.

Having eaten and drunk their fill, they have the energy to care about other things.

Mulberry casually picked her teeth: "Hey, bookworm, have you opened those envelopes yet?"

Shen Ci leaned back in her chair, her eyes slightly closed, her voice thick with a nasal tone: "No~"

"Aren't you curious?" Xie Dong followed up.

Shen Ci cut to the chase: "You're curious?"

Sang Shen and Xie Dong exchanged a glance, said nothing, and just chuckled.

"Here they are, count them yourself." Shen Ci took out the three envelopes and put them on the table.
