February 15th was the deadline for Buling and Sangshen to report for duty.
Before that, the two had finally managed to make the house habitable.
The two bicycles from Gu County were also brought over by Xie Dong's colleagues from the transport team.
With their work supplies in place, the two ate breakfast early in the morning, locked the door, and went to their respective workplaces to report for duty.
Mulberries were fine, but Bling was a little uneasy.
The main reason was that after hearing what Grandpa Sang said that day, she felt a little uneasy, and the ambiguous attitude from above made her very anxious.
Walking on the road, she felt a sense of heroic grandeur, like the mournful wind howling and the Yi River running cold.
But no matter how nervous I am, I have to go.
Along the way, Bu Ling mentally prepared countless times, anticipating all the possibilities that might happen and devising ways to deal with them, which gave her some confidence.
The Bureau of Cultural Heritage is also located in the east of the city, but closer to the center of Kyoto. It is situated beneath the Imperial City, in a traditional courtyard house with one entrance.
When she arrived at the location, Buling looked around and stopped her bicycle when she saw the sign for the 'Cultural Heritage Bureau' at the entrance.
I politely knocked on the open door before pushing my bicycle inside.
After entering, she glanced around quickly, locked her bicycle, and headed towards the main room in the center.
"QQ---"
"Enter."
Bling pushed open the door and entered.
Upon seeing Bu Ling, a woman immediately stood up and extended her hand to him: "Are you Comrade Bu Ling?"
Bling smiled and nodded: "Hello, I am Bling." She shook his fair hands.
"My name is Huang Yuming, and I'm the person in charge here. You can call me Sister Huang."
Bu Ling readily changed her address: "Hello, Sister Huang."
She appeared calm, but was actually quite surprised. The head of the Cultural Heritage Bureau was so young?
Huang Yuming looks to be in her early thirties, with a pair of bright almond-shaped eyes and a fair and smooth face. She could easily pass for a young woman in her twenties.
Huang Yuming was very kind to Bu Ling. He took her a couple of steps forward and clapped his hands lightly: "Comrades, let's stop what we're doing. We have a new colleague here. Let me introduce her to you. This is Bu Ling, a colleague who has just been transferred to our department."
The Cultural Heritage Bureau, including Bu Ling and Huang Yuming, has a total of eight people, all of whom are women.
A quick glance revealed an elderly woman in her sixties, a middle-aged woman in her fifties, and a young girl in her twenties who had just graduated from high school. The age difference was so great that it was hard to understand what was going on.
Upon hearing Huang Yuming's words, the six colleagues all looked at Buling with one unanimous agreement, politely sized her up for a few moments, and then began to introduce themselves, starting with the eldest:
"Comrade Xiao Bu, welcome to our warm family. My surname is Liu, you can call me Grandma Liu."
"Hello, Grandma Liu."
"My surname is Sun, you can call me Aunt Sun. You're a pretty young lady, are you dating anyone?"
“I know, my daughter is already in elementary school,” Bu Ling quickly explained.
Aunt Sun sighed regretfully.
Of the remaining female comrades, two were surnamed Li, one was surnamed Wang, and one was surnamed Tang. Bu Ling recognized all of them.
After the self-introductions were over, Huang Yuming led Buling to the opposite side of Grandma Liu: "Comrade Buling, please sit here."
Bling nodded: "Okay."
Buling's workstation was very clean, clearly someone had cleaned it beforehand. She thought to herself, but remained outwardly calm and sat down.
Huang Yuming and Grandma Liu both gave Bu Ling a kind smile.
Then, Huang Yuming left directly...
They've left?
Bu Ling stared at Huang Yuming's slender back with a head full of question marks, somewhat puzzled.
That's it?
That's it?
Shouldn't we interrogate them first?
At the very least, you could tell her what she's supposed to do.
As it turned out, Huang Yuming simply abandoned Buling, went to his workstation, sat down, and started writing something with his head down.
Perhaps her gaze was too intense, Huang Yuming looked up and smiled at Bu Ling: "Don't rush, get familiar with our department first."
What could Bling do but nod?
She spent the whole morning idly at her workstation.
Since she was new to the place, she didn't dare to go too far, so she could only rest her chin on her hand and stare blankly, while observing her colleagues.
Later, she discovered that her colleagues seemed to have even more free time than her. Aside from Huang Yuming, who was engrossed in writing something, the others were:
Grandma Liu was reading the newspaper while wearing her reading glasses, Aunt Sun was knitting a sweater, and the other two women of similar age were chatting and eating sunflower seeds. The youngest one was even openly sleeping on the table.
Later, Aunt Sun saw him and kindly told him not to sleep there, that there was a bed next door and he should sleep there.
Then the person said "oh" and went to sleep next door as if sleepwalking.
In short, after a whole morning, Buling hadn't observed anything.
At 11 a.m., Huang Yuming, who had been engrossed in writing something, finally looked up, raised his wrist to check the time, and said, "It's time to eat."
As soon as she finished speaking, Grandma Liu, who was reading a newspaper while wearing her reading glasses, stretched and stood up: "Is it time to eat again so soon?"
"Comrade Xiao Bu, come on, let me show you our unit's canteen." Grandma Liu took off her reading glasses and smiled kindly at Bu Ling.
Bling: ...
Why would you set up a canteen for just eight people?
This is really great treatment!
She stood up with great interest and followed Grandma Liu to the east wing.
This must be the legendary cafeteria.
