July 10th arrived in the blink of an eye, and today was payday again. This was the second time Buling had received her salary since starting work.
I got up early on purpose, washed up, steamed a potato for breakfast, and went to work with Wu Yuanyuan.
Today was a special day, and Wu Yuanyuan's face, which had been gloomy for several days, brightened up.
The two arrived at the state-run restaurant early. Everyone in the restaurant, except for Manager Zhu, was there, including someone who didn't belong to the state-run restaurant.
Looking at Tan Xiao, who stood petite and dependent on Han Yu, Bu Ling glanced at her a few more times, puzzled.
Summer clothes are thin, and Tan Xiao's belly is already showing. Standing next to Han Yu, she glanced at Bu Ling and the other person who came in, snorted again, and turned her face away, looking disdainful.
Bu Ling held Wu Yuanyuan tightly, staring straight ahead, ignoring everyone else; she was spoiled.
At nine o'clock sharp, Manager Zhu arrived at work on time. Looking at the five people standing neatly in formation, and the person standing next to Han Yu, he glanced discreetly at Grandpa Tan. Seeing his dark and gloomy expression, he roughly understood what was going on.
He shook his head silently; Old Tan was truly doomed to have such a daughter.
Next, everyone collected their wages in the same order as last time. However, this time, when it was Han Yu's turn, Tan Xiao and Han Yu went in together to collect their wages.
Grandpa Tan looked terribly unwell; even receiving his salary didn't bring him much joy. This was especially evident in Han Yu's previous incident of not collecting her salary.
Bu Ling felt she had hit the nail on the head, and a tear of sympathy welled up in her heart for Grandpa Tan. It was truly heartbreaking to be betrayed by one's own daughter; only Grandpa Tan himself knew the bitterness of such a situation.
When it was Buling's turn, her monthly salary was thirty-five yuan and fifty cents. Her food coupons, vegetable coupons, and meat coupons remained the same, but she had two extra egg coupons and a pound of oil coupons.
Bu Ling looked at Manager Zhu with a puzzled expression.
Manager Zhu explained, "This is the treatment for an eighth-grade worker."
Buling wasn't very knowledgeable about salary and benefits, but when Manager Zhu explained, she immediately accepted the offer happily: "Thank you, Manager Zhu, thank you, boss." A sweet-talking girl never has bad luck.
Manager Zhu smiled wryly and said nothing more.
Bling wisely replaced him with another person.
After everyone had received their wages, the daily routine of the state-run restaurant began again.
But Tan Xiao hasn't left yet?
Forget it, it's none of her business, she shouldn't get involved.
Even before lunchtime, the state-run restaurant was already packed with food. The aroma of the dishes mingled with the stench of sweat, and Bling wore a mask of agony throughout the entire lunch break.
This is truly a test of one's endurance; the smell, how to describe it, is simply suffocating.
When Sangshen arrived, she was also taken aback by the state-run restaurant's appearance.
What's going on? He's only been gone for a little over two weeks, how come there are suddenly so many people?
He quickly realized what was happening, went straight to the counter, ordered a bowl of cold noodles, and was delighted to see the little black girl's big white teeth. He then realized that this kind of environment wasn't so bad after all.
Spotting an empty seat, Sangshen sat down with lightning speed; from his spot, he could see the counter perfectly.
He then openly admired the little black girl's busy figure. Mulberry wondered if it was just her imagination, but she felt the little black girl had become a bit whiter, making her teeth appear less white.
When the cold noodles were ready, Sangshen got up to bring them over and, for the first time ever, said thank you.
Buling glanced around to make sure no one was paying attention, then reached into her bag, pulled out a handful of White Rabbit candies, and handed them to the handsome young man opposite her: "Thank you for speaking up for me last time."
Sangshen held a bowl in one hand, while a handful of candy was shoved into his other. Feeling the little black girl's hand brush against his, his face flushed slightly. He calmly nodded, then turned and walked away without a word.
Mulberry remained outwardly calm, but inwardly he was overjoyed. He said that the little black girl liked him.
Bling didn't think much of it after receiving the candy; she simply wanted to thank the handsome boy for speaking up for her last time, and of course, she also had a slight desire to get to know him.
Now that her life is back on track, it's time for her to expand her social circle, prioritizing good-looking people, of course.
At least before the reform and opening up, she would have to live in this county town, so making more friends wouldn't be a bad thing.
Sangshen calmly finished his lunch, then dashed out of the state-run restaurant like the wind, rode his whirlwind home, grabbed the things he had prepared beforehand, and returned to the state-run restaurant.
In the middle of the day, he pedaled his bicycle at breakneck speed, arrived at the state-run restaurant, rushed to the counter, and handed the things he was carrying to Buling: "A return gift!"
She added, "My name is Mulberry."
Buling looked at the oil paper package in her hand, wanting to ask something, but there were still customers waiting to order, so she could only accept it for now.
"My name is Buling." After saying that, she smiled her peach blossom eyes at the mulberry.
Mulberry couldn't help but smile.
"Waiter, one order of cold noodles and one order of cucumber salad!"
"They're here!"
Bling immediately snapped back to reality. It was the first time she had ever seen a handsome young man smile. He was so good-looking; his smile was like a flower in bloom.
Seeing that Buling was busy, Sangshen didn't stand in the way and happily turned around and left the state-run restaurant.
Under the July sun, Sangshen thought the weather was wonderful, just what he wanted.
After a busy day, Wu Yuanyuan and Bu Ling returned home empty-handed. Recently, the number of people eating at the state-run restaurant had surged, and there hadn't been any leftovers for a long time. Consequently, their perk was gone.
When we arrived at the alley, we happened to run into the second daughter-in-law of the Qian family.
"Sister-in-law Zhou, you just got off work?"
"Yes, Xiao Bu and Xiao Wu have finished get off work." The second daughter-in-law of the Qian family, surnamed Zhou, said.
“Yes, just got off work,” Bling replied.
Suddenly, she remembered something and asked, "By the way, Sister Zhou, do you know where I can buy some coal briquettes? Do coal mines sell them?"
