News of the drought spread rapidly throughout the county, and every household began to devise ways to store food.
Given this trend, rising food prices were inevitable, and Buling would visit the black market every day after work.
The black market is now packed with people wanting to buy grain. As soon as grain is put on sale, it's sold out in less than a minute.
Buling was alright, but the residents in the compound were all sighing and worrying.
That day, Aunt Zhao found Aunt Tian and invited Bu Ling along. The three of them gathered in Bu Ling's house.
Aunt Zhao said, "My husband and son are planning to go to the countryside tomorrow to see if they can harvest more grain. Would you two families like to join us?"
She had no other choice. Even though they were just a family of three, the two men ate a lot. If she didn't prepare, they would go hungry later.
Aunt Tian immediately responded, "I'll join." She gritted her teeth, "Buy me 100 yuan worth, all coarse grains." This was all she had left; aside from what she had set aside for emergencies, she planned to use it all to buy grain.
Aunt Zhao understood her situation, nodded to indicate that she knew, and then looked at Buling.
"I'll just buy fifty yuan's worth. I still have some food stored up, and I don't need to eat that much myself," Buling said.
Like I said before, just go with the flow and do the bare minimum.
Aunt Zhao understood; after all, she was just a young girl working in a state-run restaurant, there was no way she would go hungry.
He took the money from the two men without saying much, then turned and went back to his room.
Grandma Tian didn't stay long; she went back to her room and soon came out with two sweet potatoes. That would be the grandmother and grandson's dinner for the night.
Bling wasn't particularly eye-catching; he roasted two sweet potatoes for his dinner.
And I must say, this sweet potato has a really strong flavor right now. Although it's not very sweet, its pure, natural aroma instantly won over Buling's foodie heart.
After quickly finishing dinner, Bu Ling drank her medicine, and that was it.
She said that staying at home without a cell phone these days is incredibly boring, and she'd like to see if she could find some novels at Old Man Yu's place to pass the time.
I wish I hadn't thrown away that book I found when I went to the junkyard with her brother.
Although the content is offensive, you can still learn a lot of positions, so it's better than nothing.
And then there are the high school textbooks. Putting the college entrance exam aside for now, she absolutely has to thoroughly understand the knowledge in the original owner's mind. After all, she's a terrible student; what if she exposes her ignorance later if she doesn't study?
She wasn't actually obsessed with the college entrance exam. In her previous life, when the apocalypse came, she was a third-year computer science student. She was really fed up with school, and she was just about to graduate when, suddenly, the apocalypse struck.
So in this life, she didn't really want to take the college entrance exam. For someone who had been a poor student since the age of three in her previous life, going to school was truly a painful experience.
Now that she's finally in a different world, her main focus is on enjoying life; everything else is up to fate.
To lie down after a full meal—what a blissful thing that is!
Bling lay sprawled on the bed, eyes half-closed, and soon drifted off to sleep.
The next day, Bling got up full of energy, dawdled for a while, then, carrying her little green bag, set off for work.
Speaking of that little green bag, it was given to her by her brother. Everyone was incredibly envious, and by "everyone" she specifically meant Wu Yuanyuan.
In this day and age, the trend is to prefer military uniforms to elegant dresses. The "military uniform" in her bag is its color—army green. She carries the bag, rides her bicycle, and weaves through the bustling crowd, feeling like the coolest person on the street.
Meanwhile, having made up her mind, Sangshen spent the morning catching fish, and before ten o'clock, she slipped away, riding her bicycle straight to the state-run restaurant.
When parking, I even straightened my clothes, hoping to dazzle the little black girl later.
He strode into the state-run restaurant, walked to the counter, and said reservedly, "Give me a serving of cold shredded vegetables and a serving of vegetarian dumplings."
Buling was incredibly busy. Seeing it was him, she smiled at him and began attending to the next customer, completely oblivious to the mulberry's display.
Due to the recent drought, state-run restaurants have reduced their supplies. Once they've sold out of food, they put up signs saying "sold out," and later customers who see these signs won't come back to order.
Sangshen didn't finish the last dumpling until the sign was hung up, then he carried his bowl and plate to the counter.
Bling still didn't pay attention to him; all she could think about was her staff meal.
Sangshen coughed twice, feigning seriousness, before handing the bowl and plate back: "Here you go!"
Upon hearing a familiar voice, Bu Ling looked up in surprise: "Huh? You haven't left yet?"
Mulberry wanted to turn black-faced
Bling immediately added, "Wait a minute, I need to talk to you about something."
Mulberry was quickly calmed down, thinking to herself, "Is this little black girl going to confess her feelings to me? Should I be reserved before agreeing, or just say yes right away? I'm so conflicted!"
Bling went back to the kitchen to say something, then took the mulberries to the backyard.
"You know about the drought that's been all over the county, right?" Bu Ling asked bluntly.
The mulberry's swaying heart fell to the ground with a thud. Facing the little black girl's urging gaze, he composed his heart, which was now in two pieces, and nodded: "It's true. Some of the villages down below are doing alright, managing to harvest some grain, while others have truly had no harvest at all."
Because of his brother, he was able to know some things about the villages below.
He advised, "Stock up on more food. If you can't buy any, tell me, and I'll...buy it for you." He meant to say, "I'll deliver it to you," but he phrased it differently.
How could he be so eager to do that?
