Chapter 59 Want to date? The kind where we forage for wild vegetables.

Bling pushed his bicycle into the state-run restaurant, disturbing the group of people who were performing a play inside.

All eyes turned to Bling.

Bling has incredibly strong mental fortitude: "You guys continue, I'm just passing by!"

Manager Zhu was speechless. How could this girl say such a thing under these circumstances?

Not only did Bling say that, she even actually walked by on her bicycle.

Wu Yuanyuan's eyes darted around before she followed Bu Ling into the backyard.

After Bu Linggang stopped his bicycle, Wu Yuanyuan followed.

"Bring, you have no idea, I've really seen something amazing today!"

While locking the car, Bu Ling calmly asked, "What's wrong? What kind of trouble has Tan Xiao caused this time?"

One of the main characters in the opera performance outside is Tan Xiao, and the other is Tan Xiao's biological father, Uncle Tan.

"By the way, where's Han Yu? I didn't see him earlier." It would be really inappropriate for him not to be there at a time like this.

Wu Yuanyuan curled her lip: "Him? He asked Manager Zhu for the afternoon off, I wonder what he went to do." She really couldn't stand this kind of man, making his wife take the lead while he stayed far away.

"It seems this was pre-arranged," Bling said thoughtfully.

Wu Yuanyuan thought so too.

After parking the car, Bling said, "Let's go inside and take a look."

As he spoke, he went into the house first, stood by the door, and looked at Tan Xiao, who was crying in the middle.

Tan Xiao's cheeks are now sunken and her hair is dry and yellow; she has lost all of the youthful beauty she had when we first met.

"Dad, I beg you, please give the job to Brother Han. Even if it's just for my sake, and for the sake of your grandson in my belly, please help us!"

Grandpa Tan remained silent, watching his daughter kneeling on the ground, weeping bitterly, and a chill ran through him.

"Father, we're starving. Can you really bear to see your daughter starve to death? Aren't you the one who loves me the most? Please love me just this once more! I promise, this is the last time!"

With hopeful eyes and tears blurring her vision, Tan Xiao looked up at her father.

"Tan Xiao, I've said it before, after you get married, we'll be two separate families. So what gives you the right to covet my job now?"

"Father, I'm your own daughter! How can you really bear to abandon your daughter?" Tan Xiao asked incredulously.

"I remember your food rations are quite generous, and with Han Yu's as well, it's more than enough to feed both of you," Grandpa Tan said in a deep voice.

Tan Xiao felt terrified by her father's gaze and instinctively reached out to grab his clothes, just like she had when she was a child.

"Dad, my mother-in-law's family is starving to death. Brother Han and I can't just ignore them."

When Grandpa Tan saw her actions, he was initially somewhat soft-hearted, but after hearing her words, his heart hardened again.

"Have you thought about what will happen to your mother and me? What if we starve to death?"

In his current situation, if he loses his job, his whole family will go hungry relying solely on the meager urban rations, not to mention he also has to support his second son who has been sent to the countryside.

"Don't you still have your older brother and sister-in-law? They won't abandon you," Tan Xiao argued softly.

Hearing this, Wu Yuanyuan nudged Bu Ling and winked at her.

Bu Ling leaned closer to Wu Yuanyuan: "Sister Yuanyuan, do you see this? This is the ultimate love brain."

Wu Yuanyuan glanced at Tan Xiao, who was crying with her pregnant belly, and suddenly understood the meaning of "love-struck".

"Sister Yuanyuan, you should keep your eyes open when you go on blind dates in the future, so you don't get tricked into digging for wild vegetables."

"I'm not looking for wild vegetables in the countryside, why would I dig for them?"

Bling gave her a speechless look: "I'll explain later."

At this moment, Grandpa Tan bent down to help his pregnant daughter up. When he felt the bones under his hand, his heart ached terribly. After all, she was the daughter he had doted on since childhood, and seeing her like this naturally pained him.

Tan Xiao asked in surprise, "Dad, you agreed?"

The state-run restaurant was very quiet; everyone was watching the father and daughter in the middle.

Grandpa Tan didn't answer, but patted the dirt off his daughter: "Go back. How you live your life from now on is up to you. You're all grown up now, and you should be responsible for your choices. Your parents are getting old and can't take any more of your antics. Don't come looking for us anymore. Go live your own lives."

"Father?" Tan Xiao's eyes were filled with panic.

Grandpa Tan turned his head away: "Go back. You're not our only child. We can't give you a job. We gave you what we were supposed to give you on your wedding day. There's nothing else we can do for you."

He knew perfectly well what his daughter was up to—kneeling down before him in front of everyone the moment she arrived today. He also knew that his daughter was definitely not that clever; someone must be pulling the strings behind the scenes.

As for who it is, that goes without saying.

Tan Xiao refused to give in. She took two steps forward, grabbed her father's sleeve, and shook it, her expression a mixture of reproach and coquetry.

"Father, what are you saying? I'm your own daughter! Don't you want me anymore?"

Grandpa Tan hardened his heart and said, "Yes!"

Tan Xiao's expression froze as she stared at her father's profile, her heart pounding with panic.

"Dad, you...you're joking, right?" How could her father abandon her? He clearly loved her so much.

"I'm not kidding. You only care about your husband's family and don't care about your own family's life or death at all. Then we'll pretend you don't exist from now on."

"Dad, what are you saying? I am your own daughter. Just because I asked you for a job, you don't want your daughter anymore. How can you be so heartless!"

Hearing Tan Xiao's words, it's unclear what Grandpa Tan thought, but Bu Ling was amused and exasperated by her logic.

Does she even know the current situation, or how valuable Grandpa Tan's job is? And yet, she just casually asks for a job, and it's even going to her in-laws!
