Chapter 6 Composure

The four men in the jeep remained silent until they drove into the military compound and stopped.

The person who got into the front passenger seat said, "We're here, get out."

Bling pretended not to know how to open the door and looked at the principal awkwardly.

The principal helped her open the door.

Bling got out of the car and followed the man in the passenger seat forward without daring to look up. At a time like this, anyone who looked up would inevitably become cannon fodder.

Only after she entered a room, closed the door, and was left alone, did she quietly look up and observe her surroundings.

The room was dark, with a wooden stool in the middle and a row of tables opposite it.

She instantly understood; the wooden stool was clearly meant for her.

This was clearly a three-way interrogation, and she mentally reviewed her statement again before she relaxed a little.

Before long, footsteps could be heard at the door.

Bling stared nervously.

Soon, the door opened, and four men and one woman walked in.

The man in the lead was a serious-looking middle-aged man. To his left was an old man with gray hair who looked somewhat fierce. He was wearing a military uniform and was probably a soldier. The two behind him were clearly bodyguards, both of them cool-looking. As for the woman, she looked kind and was around forty years old. Bu Ling couldn't figure out what she did for a moment.

The five people entered the room and saw the thin little girl standing inside. None of them spoke; they silently walked behind the table.

Strangely, the woman was sitting in the very middle.

After all five people were seated, the woman in the middle said in a gentle voice, "Please sit down."

Buling, with great tact, sat down on her assigned wooden stool, placed her hands on her knees, straightened her back, and looked straight ahead—a standard elementary school student sitting posture.

The middle-aged man with a serious expression spoke first: "Bling, tell me how you discovered the letter."

Bling immediately spoke up, honestly saying, "This morning I was instructed to take care of my mother. Because it was a rare opportunity, I wanted to steal my household registration booklet. That's when I discovered a hidden compartment in the wardrobe. There was a box inside, but it was locked. I assumed it contained the household registration booklet, so I searched high and low in the bedroom for the key. Finally, I found it in a small hole on the side of my mother's dressing table. When I opened it, I saw only letters inside. Out of curiosity, I opened it and looked at it. The letters were all in Russian, and they contained lists of personnel from the machine factory, as well as some names I didn't recognize. There were also blueprints for the Guangyao VI tank. I felt something was wrong, so I went to our principal."

The woman in the middle asked calmly, "Why do you feel something is wrong?"

As for the little girl knowing Russian, they weren't surprised, because schools now teach Russian starting from junior high, and the little girl's grades were quite good, so knowing Russian was perfectly normal.

Bling pursed his lips before saying, "Because it mentioned tanks, and there are many things I don't recognize or have never heard of."

The woman in the middle didn't speak again.

The stern old man asked again, "Why would you want to steal the household registration book?"

Bling gave a bitter laugh and made no attempt to hide it: "I want to leave that home."

The middle-aged man with a serious expression asked, "Why do you want to leave that home? Or did you already know about this before you wanted to leave?"

Bling wasn't annoyed; she knew this was an inevitable process.

"Because I don't want to live like this anymore. Look at me, I'm sixteen years old this year, and I've never had a full meal since I can remember. At home, I'm either punished or scolded, or I'm used as a punching bag and beaten for no reason. I want to leave, even if it's to go to the countryside to farm, I don't want to stay in this house anymore." Her voice was a little choked up, a real sob, the kind of sob that comes from heartache for the original owner.

The five people opposite looked at the thin, sobbing girl and felt a pang of pity. They knew what kind of life the child lived at home. When Principal Wu reported the matter, they had carefully investigated Bu Ling's life.

However, the stern old man still asked, "Then why did you only think of stealing the household registration book now? Didn't you have better opportunities before?"

After a moment of silence, Bu Ling said, "Because my brother, my half-brother, sent me a letter saying that he had found me a job in Hebei Province. I can't let my family know about this. Once they find out, I won't be able to get the job. That's why I plan to steal the household registration book, secretly move my household registration, and never come back."

The gruff old man asked, "Where's the letter?"

Bling took a letter out of her bag and handed it to the cool guy who walked up to her.

The three people opposite passed the letter around for a while. The woman in the middle put the letter back in the envelope, placed it beside her, and then asked with a smile, "As far as I know, you weren't like this before?"

Bling thought to himself, "Here it comes." He raised his head and said without any pretense, "If I weren't cowardly and disobedient, I might have died long ago."

When he said this, Bling's eyes were very calm, so calm that the three battle-hardened men opposite him felt a little uneasy.

However, the questions that need to be asked still need to be asked.

The serious-looking middle-aged man asked, "Why didn't your family find this letter? According to you, your stepfather is very cautious, so why would he allow you to receive this letter?"

"Because the letter was sent to my teacher's house, the address on it is Teacher Wang's house, and I only received the letter yesterday, and I haven't had time to reply yet." She said this with a bit of resentment, wondering if Bu Yi would keep the job for her.

The old man pressed on, "Why was your mother knocked unconscious right after you received the letters, and why did you have the opportunity to enter your stepfather's bedroom and see these letters?"

Bu Ling frankly said, "I did it. When she was about to hit me, I tripped her, and my brother was also tripped by me. I just didn't expect him to fall directly on my mother."
