Wu Yuanyuan explained, "Jiang Hua is Aunt Shen's precious daughter. Aunt Shen is targeting you because of her daughter."
Bu Ling asked, puzzled, "When did I offend her daughter? I don't know anything about it, and I've never even met her daughter."
Wu Yuanyuan looked at her with pity: "Not having seen it doesn't mean you haven't offended anyone."
Bling was even more confused: "I've never even met her, how could I have offended her?"
Wu Yuanyuan explained to her, "Jiang Hua was spoiled by Aunt Shen since she was a child. She was given everything she wanted, so she developed a domineering and selfish personality. She felt that everyone should be below her. If anyone is better than her, she will be unhappy. If she is unhappy, Aunt Shen will cause trouble."
Bu Ling had a toothache: "Isn't this an unexpected disaster?" She was so wronged!
Wu Yuanyuan said with a laugh, "Ever since you and your brother started carrying loads of furniture into the yard, I've heard Jiang Hua complain that you're showing off your poverty. Wu Yuanyuan said with a look of sympathy: "That's right, Jiang Hua always makes her mother the first to rush to the front whenever something happens. She always ends up being the good guy, and she has a great reputation in the compound."
Bu Ling's apt comment: "A pure white lotus!"
Wu Yuanyuan asked, puzzled, "What is a white lotus flower?"
"It's about using other people's malice to highlight your own innocence and kindness," Bu Ling summarized in one sentence.
After hearing this, Wu Yuanyuan felt it was strangely fitting. "Yes, that's exactly it. Every time she's alone with Jiang Hua, her eyes get red, making people think I've bullied her. And she always tries to explain for me, but the more she explains, the worse it gets." She poured out her grievances to Bu Ling.
Seeing her still-shaken expression, Bu Ling smiled and asked, "How much harm did you suffer? Your resentment runs so deep."
Wu Yuanyuan drank the water in her bowl in one gulp and said with a weary expression, "In our courtyard, there were only two girls of similar age, her and me, so we played together when we were little. Wu Yuanyuan gritted her teeth, having to admit that she wasn't as quick-witted as Jiang Hua; otherwise, she wouldn't have been tricked by her for so many years.
Bu Ling thought back to the inexplicable malice that Aunt Shen had shown her when she was delivering candy door-to-door, and now she finally understood.
She had previously thought that Aunt Shen was just a rabid dog who would bite anyone she could get her hands on.
"Sister Yuanyuan, what does Jiang Hua look like? I feel like I've never seen her since I came to this courtyard," Buling asked. She had been here for more than ten days and hadn't seen her even once. Even if the backyard and frontyard were different places of activity, wasn't it a bit too deliberate to say she hadn't seen her at all?
Wu Yuanyuan pursed her lips: "She's avoiding you."
Bling was full of questions.
