Chapter 298 Sangzi Breaks Her Promise

"Oh, okay." Having something to do made Jiang Wanying feel less awkward.

After she left, Aunt Sang turned around and smiled, "Our Lingling is so thoughtful. I had completely forgotten about Xiao Jiang's personality."

"Aunt, you're just confused. What's wrong with me?" Bu Ling said modestly.

Aunt Sang smiled but didn't say anything.

"Lingling, do you think Xiao Si will be able to come tonight?"

Bling remained expressionless. "I think it's unlikely."

Her brother-in-law, if he wanted to come, he would have come long ago. As for his excuses about being busy with work, they are just that—excuses, and the kind of half-hearted ones at that.

Aunt's face darkened: "That little brat!"

In truth, she knew perfectly well that she already had a hunch when Hua Xin came to her door. Asking Bu Ling now was just a way of holding onto a sliver of hope.

"What did Xiaoqi not tell you?" Auntie asked again.

"No." Buling felt that her aunt was like a volcano about to erupt, so she shook her head rapidly.

Just as the second-to-last dish was being cooked, there was a noise at the door: "Lingling, keep an eye on things for me. I'm going out to check; it might be Xiao Si."

After saying that, he opened the door and left the kitchen, glanced around, and immediately came back.

Bling: "Isn't it the eldest brother?"

"No, it's Xiaoqi and Dongzi who are back." Auntie seemed uninterested.

They didn't sit down for dinner until 9 p.m. At the table, Aunt looked at Li Huaxin and said apologetically, "Huaxin, I'm so sorry, Xiao Si is just too busy with work."

Li Huaxin skillfully concealed the disappointment in her eyes: "I know, Auntie, I understand."

"That's good. Once Xiao Si is done with his work, I'll have him apologize to you," Auntie comforted him.

"There's no need for apologies, Auntie, you're too kind. I arrived unexpectedly," Li Huaxin said with a smile.

"Yes, yes." Auntie was quite satisfied with Li Huaxin, so she tried extra hard to find excuses for Sangzi.

Apart from Li Huaxin and her aunt, everyone ate the meal in complete silence, afraid of being implicated.

After the meal, Sang Shen and Xie Dong volunteered to wash the dishes. Auntie chatted with Li Huaxin for a while, praising Sang Zi extensively before letting her go.

"Hua Xin, you should rest well. Auntie will make you steamed buns tomorrow morning with pickled cabbage and pork belly. They're so delicious."

"Thank you, Auntie." Li Huaxin showed no impatience whatsoever.

After seeing Li Huaxin off, Aunt Sang returned and said, "Lingling, you and Xiaoqi should get some rest. You have to go to work tomorrow."

"Okay, Auntie, you should get some rest too." Sangzhen stood up, picked up her eldest daughter, went back into the house, and closed the door.

Then, in a great hurry, he pulled Bu Ling onto the kang (a heated brick bed).

Bling: ...

"Why are you in such a hurry?" Bu Ling gave him a shove, speechless.

Sangshen looked at her in surprise: "Lingling, what are you thinking about? I have something to tell you."

"Why didn't you say so earlier!" Bu Ling said irritably, then she took off her clothes and got onto the kang (a heated brick bed): "What did you say? Hurry up, I'm sleepy."

“I know where my brother went,” Sangshen whispered.
