Chapter 9 Pheasant Dishes

The Song family hadn't eaten meat in a long time, and even the adults, not to mention the children, were craving it. The whole family joined in, each one full of energy.

"The eldest son's wife is kneading dough, the second son's wife is picking and washing vegetables, and the third son's wife is boiling water and preparing to cook."

"Why!"

This pheasant was quite large, and even after plucking the feathers, it looked quite large. Feng Guizhi stared at the chicken for a few seconds, but she couldn't bear to eat the whole thing in one sitting, so she chopped the chicken in half, intending to eat it in several servings.

The smaller half was kept aside for making soup, and the larger half was for eating tonight.

Feng Guizhi took a knife and chopped the half pheasant into small pieces. It had been a long time since they had eaten meat, so this first meal must let everyone taste the meat to their heart's content.

Pheasant meat is more delicious and tastes better than chicken, so it must not be wasted.

Chop the green onion, ginger and garlic into small pieces and stir-fry them in a pan to bring out the aroma. Then pour in the chopped chicken and stir-fry back and forth to make the meat more flavorful.

Add seasoning, some red pepper, and then take out three potatoes, cut them into pieces and add them in. The pot suddenly became much more filling, half full.

But even so, there were so many people that the food was gone with just two chopsticks per person.

Feng Guizhi pulled out some fine vermicelli from the cupboard, grabbed two handfuls, and soaked them in water. There was only one bag of fine vermicelli, not much, and normally she wouldn't eat it all. But today, she was determined to eat it to her heart's content, so Feng Guizhi didn't feel bad about it. Once the vermicelli softened, she lifted the lid and put it in the pot.

When the lid of the pot was lifted, white steam wrapped in fragrance floated out. Yang Yulan, who was adding fuel to the fire, smelled the fragrance and couldn't help but take a few more breaths.

The smell of meat is really fragrant~

After adding the fine powder, the pot is now full. Cover the pot and stew it vigorously until the meat is cooked. This way it will taste more delicious.

The pot here was ready, and the dough that Chen Xiuxiu had just made was almost done rising. Feng Guizhi took out a rolling pin and started rolling out the dough, preparing to make the wild vegetable pancakes that Song Bowen had mentioned.

After a day's work, everyone was still busy when they got home, but no one felt tired at this moment, and everyone had a happy smile on their face.

The kitchen was bustling with activity, and outside, too, Song Aimin was checking the tasks assigned by Feng Guizhi today.

"Tian En and Yun Duo are both good. I even learned two new words."

"Dad, I taught you how to say 'sweet'!" Song Wenjie said.

"And me, 'Liang', I was the one who taught the word 'Liang'." Song Wenzhi also rushed to say.

"Very good, very good. You all deserve praise for teaching your younger brothers and sisters new words." Song Aimin praised happily.

"Yuanbao, what characters have you learned? Write them down for your second uncle to see." Song Aimin knew that Song Yuanbao had a bad memory and would always forget what he learned the next moment, so he was also the one who received special attention.

He expected that Song Yuanbao could just learn three new characters. After all, he was the youngest among this group of children, so the difficulty could be relaxed a bit.

However, this time Song Yuanbao really surprised him, as he actually learned five new characters. Although his handwriting was a little crooked, every stroke was correct, and he even accurately explained how to pronounce each character.

Song Aimin was immediately surprised: "Yuanbao is really good this time. He has written it all down. He has made great progress!"

After Song Yuanbao finished writing the words, he was so happy to hear the praise and felt very happy.

"Second uncle... Second... Uncle... Little... Little Bao can also... can write..." Song Tianen had always been thinking about Baoya. Seeing that everyone had finished checking and it was not Baoya's turn yet, he said anxiously.

He thought Xiaobao was the most amazing, as she had learned the new words so quickly. Moreover, she was much younger than them.

Song Aimin smiled and said, "Has your little sister Xiaobao also learned to write? Come, write it out so I can see which character you learned."

Everyone's eyes were on Baoya. It was her first time learning to write, and now, with so many people watching, the tips of her ears were a little red. She nervously grabbed the edge of her clothes, then took two steps forward under everyone's gaze.

"Sister Xiaobao." Song Bowen looked at her encouragingly.

Baoya looked at him, then squatted down, picked up the twig, and slowly wrote on the ground. She first wrote the word "Bao", then wrote "Yuan" and "Brother" next to it.

She learned these three words today.

Song Aimin had originally thought that if they said Baoya had learned to write, she would only have learned one character at most, since she looked so young. But to her surprise, she had learned three characters at once, and they wrote them quite well.

Song Aimin couldn't help but praise her, "I didn't expect that your little sister Xiaobao, who is the youngest, can write so well! She's smart, and you brothers and sisters have taught her well."

"Little sister Xiaobao is so smart."

"Great... little sister... my sister is awesome!"

When the older brothers and sisters heard Baoya being praised, they clapped their hands happily, as if they were the ones being praised.

So pretty and well-behaved

Qiao's sister not only helped their family earn work points, but she was also very clever and learned new Chinese characters in a short time. She even helped them catch a big pheasant! She's really amazing!

Baoya was a little embarrassed by the compliments, and her cheeks turned red. But because everyone was so nice to her during the past two days, she gradually relaxed a little.

Baoya smiled as her big, dark eyes met everyone's happy faces.

"Wash your hands and get ready for dinner." Feng Guizhi shouted from the kitchen.

Several little ones jumped up happily at once: "It's time to eat, it's time to eat!"

Everyone immediately ran to the well, drew water, and washed their hands carefully. Song Tianen didn't forget Baoya when he ran, and pulled her along behind him.

The two tables were full of people, and in the middle was a soup bowl filled with a dish made with pheasant meat. Not only did it look appetizing, but just smelling the aroma made the kids drool.

Baoya stared at the pheasant dish and couldn't help licking her lips and swallowing her saliva. She couldn't remember what the meat tasted like, but she felt it must be delicious.

Her little brain couldn't help but compare, which is better, pheasant meat or yesterday's hand-rolled noodles?

A bowl of porridge was placed in front of each person. Yang Yulan came over with a basket of steamed buns and gave each person half a palm-sized wild vegetable cake.

"It smells so good~" Song Yuanbao loves eating wild vegetable cakes. As soon as he got them, he couldn't wait to take a bite, with a look of satisfaction on his face.

"Let's eat."

After Feng Guizhi spoke, everyone started to eat. At first, almost no one picked up the pheasant, but instead ate the potatoes and tried the vermicelli.

These two things are tasteless on their own, and the flavor will change depending on what they are fried with. This one is full of flavor, with a rich meaty aroma, and everyone wants to swallow their tongue.

Smells so good, so fragrant...

Although Baoya also wanted to taste the meat, she ended up picking up potatoes. The taste in her mouth made her eyes light up instantly.

She didn't know how to describe it, but she just thought it was delicious, and different from the hand-rolled noodles from yesterday.

At this time, no one spoke in the room, but Song Bowen saw that Baoya couldn't pick up the vermicelli, so he helped her pick up some and put it in the bowl, along with potatoes and a piece of pheasant.

Baoya looked at the meat in the bowl and licked her lips, but still pushed the bowl away and let Song Bowen eat the meat. Although the meat was fragrant, the potatoes and vermicelli were also delicious.

"This piece of meat is yours, eat it." Song Bowen pushed the bowl back again.

Baoya looked at the meat in the bowl hesitantly, then looked at Song Bowen, still reluctant to eat it.

"Eat it, everyone gets two pieces of meat, no more, no less. There's still half a chicken left in the kitchen. If you finish eating it today, there'll be more for tomorrow!" Feng Guizhi said after noticing the movement here.

As soon as these words were spoken, the little ones almost shouted out in excitement.

Two pieces of meat per person! Plus, we can still eat it tomorrow!

Everyone picked up a piece of meat and put it in the bowl before carefully putting it into their mouths. The meat was stewed very well and was full of flavor.

The meat on the children's side was all good meat, with lots of meat and small bones. The tougher bones were on the adults' table.

The fried pheasant meat is especially delicious with rice. The palm-sized wild vegetable pancakes were quickly eaten up. Those who were still not full could only eat black-faced steamed buns.

However, the black-faced steamed buns that I usually don’t think are very tasty with this dish also tasted a lot better. The big bowl of food was quickly finished, and everyone’s belly was full.

"Burp~" Baoya couldn't help but let out a small burp.

She touched her round belly and a satisfied smile appeared on her little face.

Song Tianen, Song Yuanbao, Song Boyu and others also burped one after another. This meal was really too full and too comfortable.

The meals were exceptionally sumptuous for two consecutive days, and everyone began to look forward to tomorrow's meal.

After dinner, the whole Song family seemed to be filled with fragrance. After everyone cleaned up, they didn't rush to bed. After all, they were a little full today, and if they didn't digest the food, they wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

Song Aiguo carried a bucket of water to water the vegetables in the garden, while Song Aimin took his son and nephew to play in the yard.

Yang Yulan took some plucked pheasant feathers and planned to make a shuttlecock for Yunduo and Baoya to play with. The pheasant feathers were particularly beautiful, and she picked out a few long ones.

Shuttlecocks are easy to make. She worked quickly and made a beautiful shuttlecock in no time.

"God's grace."

"Mother...Mother...you called me..."

"Give this to Yun Duo and your little sister Xiao Bao to play with."

"Okay!" Song Tianen took the beautiful shuttlecock, nodded heavily, turned around and ran outside.

A group of children immediately started playing together, and even competed to see who could kick the ball more. They played happily for a long time, and the whole yard was filled with their happy laughter.

"What's wrong with the Song family today? Why are they so happy?" Mrs. Li, who lived next door, muttered after hearing the voice.

"Maybe the kids are having fun. You have to go to work tomorrow, so go to sleep." The old man Chen next to him yawned, turned over and fell asleep.

Mrs. Li frowned, thinking of the fragrance she had just smelled. She rolled her eyes and became cautious.
