Chapter 15 Tiger Pepper

After the rain, the team immediately got busy and planted soybeans while the soil was still moist.

The fields are now planted with soybeans, which have a high yield. Green beans can be eaten, used to grow bean sprouts, made into tofu, and pressed into soybean oil. They have many uses.

Everyone was very busy during this period, basically coming here before dawn, even eating lunch in the fields, resting by the trees after eating, and then continuing to work. After all, the harvest was related to how much food each family could get.

At noon, whoever's turn it is to cook will go back, and after finishing, ask the younger ones to take it to the field.

Today it was Yang Yulan's turn to cook. After she finished cooking, Baoya and Song Tianen went to deliver the meal.

Baoya came to deliver food to Feng Guizhi today. When she arrived, she found Feng Guizhi working in the fields and gently pulled the corner of her clothes with her hand.

Feng Guizhi turned around and saw that she was holding the food, so she took it and pulled her to the shade of a tree not far away. Baoya sat obediently on the side, and seeing that Feng Guizhi's face was sweaty, she took the straw hat next to her and fanned her.

Feng Guizhi felt that she was well-behaved and sensible, so she didn't stop her. The simple lunch was quickly finished, and Feng Guizhi handed the empty bowl to Baoya:

"Go back."

Baoya held the bowl and shook her head, but didn't leave. Feng Guizhi didn't chase her away. She was indeed a little tired after working all morning, especially with her back bent all the time, which was particularly sore.

She leaned against the tree and rested for a while. Baoya saw that she was tired and fanned her slowly.

After resting, Feng Guizhi took the hoe and went back to work, while Baoya was still sitting under the shade of the tree watching. After a while, Baoya walked over, pulling at the corner of her clothes.

Feng Guizhi was hoeing the ground, sprinkling a few beans, and then pushing the soil back to flatten it.

Baoya walked gently to her side, grabbed a few beans from the basket next to her, and carefully threw them in when Feng Guizhi finished hoing the ground.

Feng Guizhi was both pleased and sympathetic to see the child so well-behaved and sensible. She didn't stop him, but simply said, "Throw four or five into each pit."

As he said this, he was afraid that Baoya didn't know how many beans there were, so he counted them and handed them to her.

Baoya nodded obediently, carefully counting the beans before throwing them into the pit.

With Baoya's help, Feng Guizhi worked much faster. She hoeed the ground while Baoya scattered beans, and the two worked very well together.

Baoya was able to help and felt very happy.

When the living saw that Feng Guizhi had someone to help her, they immediately felt envious: "Guizhi, is this the girl who ran away? She knows how to help with the work at such a young age, she is really sensible."

"That's right, my boy is older than her, and he wouldn't even bother to fetch water. Girls are definitely better."

Others started to tease him after hearing this: "If you think the girl is sensible, then why don't you have another child?"

"No, no, these two guys are almost killing me."

Everyone smiled and didn't say anything else.

Mrs. Tian couldn't help but speak again: "What's so good about being a little girl? When she grows up, she will still become someone else's family."

Feng Guizhi did not respond. What was there to say to such a person? She felt that if something went wrong it was her own business and it would not affect their love for their own girl.

The others didn't respond. Although they might have favored boys over girls, they didn't go that far. After all, they were their own flesh and blood, so how could they not feel sorry for them? So they also couldn't stand Mrs. Tian's behavior, so they just pretended not to hear her talk.

Turning around, he continued, "But speaking of which, this little girl is really pretty. Guizhi, do you think she's from some family in the city?"

"Yeah, this one is so clean and white, he doesn't look like a country girl like us."

Upon hearing this, Feng Guizhi also looked at Baoya. The little girl was really pretty, with a white and tender face like a peeled egg, and big round and bright eyes. She looked like a city girl.

But if he was from the city, why would he sleep in her haystack?

Feng Guizhi couldn't say for sure, and after all these days, there was no news from the captain. She began to wonder, what would happen to this girl if they couldn't find her?

Finally, the time for rest came, and Zhang Hongli hurried back to her parents' home.

"Mom, have you found Baoya?"

Xu Laiying sighed: "No, I've searched the entire brigade these days, but I still can't find the child."

Zhang Hongli suddenly became anxious: "Why haven't they found her yet? There's no one with such a young child in the team, so where else could she have gone?"

At this point, Xu Laiying hesitated and said, "She's just a little kid, she definitely couldn't run far in the dark, but could someone have taken her away?"

Zhang Hongli was stunned when she heard this. "Take her away? Who will take her away?"

"Who else could it be? It could be the child's mother or the child's father. You never know. During the day, you spent five dollars to buy the child, and at night, when no one is around, the child was taken away. This is not a sure-win business." Xu Lai

Ying said this with a bit of unhappiness in her tone. After all, she spent five dollars, and it was gone just like that. Alas!

"No...no way?" After hearing what Xu Laiying said, Zhang Hongli also became a little hesitant.

After all, if a child that young really ran away on his own, how could he not be found? Unless...

Zhang Hongli couldn't wait any longer and decided to go find Chen Fengxia to ask for clarification. First, she wanted to see if the child was at her home. If not, she would definitely tell someone that the child was missing. With more people helping to look for the child, they might be able to find him sooner.

Zhang Hongli did not stop at all along the way. The journey that was supposed to take half an hour was completed in just twenty minutes.

Everyone had finished work at this time. Zhang Hongli didn't know where Chen Fengxia's husband lived, so she asked the team members on the way and finally found him.

"...However, Fengxia hasn't been to work for the past two days. It seems she went back to her parents' home." said the team members.

Zhang Hongli's anxious heart seemed to be poured with a basin of cold water.

………

After dinner, everyone went to bed early. These past few days, not only the adults were tired, but the children were also not relaxed, and most of them fell asleep quickly.

However, after Baoya fell asleep tonight, she had another strange dream.

This time, she dreamed that the bride went to look for her ex-mother... Everyone knew that she had run away... Then, her ex-mother came to look for her.

Seeing that she was sent back in the dream, Baoya burst into tears, her face full of tears.

Yang Yulan was a light sleeper and woke up when she heard a faint cry. After careful listening, she found that it was Baoya crying.

Song Jianye also heard the crying and woke up. Seeing Yang Yulan sitting up, he lowered his voice and asked:

"What's wrong?"

"It seems like she's crying." Yang Yulan pointed in the direction of Baoya, walked to her side, and patted her little body gently.

"Okay, okay, don't cry anymore." Yang Yulan hugged Baoya in her arms, patted her back gently, and coaxed her softly.

She thought Baoya might be having a nightmare. Seeing the tear marks on her fair and tender face in the moonlight, Yang Yulan's heart softened.

"It's okay, it's just a dream, it's not real, don't be afraid."

Baoya regained consciousness a little and felt herself being embraced by Yang Yulan. The gentle voice of comfort made her heart slowly calm down.

But thinking of the dream she had just had, she couldn't help but stretch out her hands and hug Yang Yulan tightly. She didn't want to leave, she liked this place.

"No

Afraid, not afraid." Yang Yulan patted him gently and said in a warm voice.

Baoya was young to begin with, and she fell asleep quickly with such comfort. Perhaps it was the comforting presence beside her that made her feel at ease, and she did not dream this time.

She maintained the same posture until Baoya fell asleep, then Yang Yulan slowly got up, tucked in the quilt for Baoya, and rubbed her sore arms.

Song Jianye was also awake. Seeing that she had gotten up, he asked quietly, "Are you asleep?"

"Yeah." After Yang Yulan lay down, Song Jianye reached out and pinched her arm with just the right amount of force, which relieved the pain she had just felt.

"Stop pinching me and go to sleep." Yang Yulan said as she yawned.

"I'm not very sleepy now, don't worry about me, go to sleep first, you still have to go to work tomorrow."

Yang Yulan was indeed tired and sleepy, so she didn't insist any longer and soon fell asleep.

Song Jianye gently squeezed her arm for a long time before he put his hand down and lay down. But he couldn't sleep, thinking about what Song Jianshe had said to him yesterday.
