Chapter Ninety-Eight: I Want to Adopt Him
Zhong Xiaoxiao nodded blankly: "I understand, I won't run around."
She didn't know what her mother was going to do, but she just listened to whatever her mother said.
Zhou Mingli, however, thought that her godmother's strong reaction was because of what she had said about the little mute girl...
So is the godmother acting so strangely because of the little mute?
Does she know the little mute boy?
That shouldn't be! She's been married for over two years and has never heard of this relative, and Xiaoxiao hasn't reacted at all!
Zhou Mingli was wondering what was going on when Zhang Chunxue had already tied a flashlight to the front of the tricycle and rode it into the darkness.
Zhong Xiaoxiao still looked bewildered. She turned to Zhou Mingli and asked, "Sister, what's wrong with Mom?"
Zhou Mingli thought for a moment and said, "Mom must have her own things to do... We should just listen to her."
With the help of the dim yellow light of her flashlight, Zhang Chunxue quickly arrived at the town hospital.
She locked the tricycle and immediately went to the inpatient department to ask the nurse on night shift.
"Hello, nurse, could you tell me which ward the little mute boy we admitted today is in?"
Seeing her anxious expression, the nurse assumed she was a relative of the little mute boy and quickly told her, "He's in room 311 on the third floor."
Zhang Chunxue repeatedly expressed her gratitude: "Thank you, thank you!"
Just as she was about to leave, the nurse called her back.
"Are you his mother? Or someone in his family?" Her tone was full of hostility. "How do you family members care for your child? Have you been abusing him at home? Who wouldn't feel heartbroken seeing the injuries on his body!"
Zhang Chunxue forced a smile: "I'm not... sigh! I'll take good care of him from now on!"
With that, she turned and ran towards the stairs.
Despite the short three-story building and the narrow corridor, Zhang Chunxue was filled with mixed emotions.
Her little mute boy, she will definitely treat him better in this life.
Standing at the door of ward 311, Zhang Chunxue mentally prepared herself before pushing the door open.
This is a multi-patient ward, and besides the little mute boy, there are several other patients inside.
But as soon as Zhang Chunxue entered, her gaze was completely focused on the little mute boy.
His hair was cut, but the person who cut it was probably unprofessional, as it was a very uneven cut. However, he did look much more energetic, but he also looked even thinner.
His head and body were wrapped in bandages, which shows how serious his injuries were.
Because of Zhang Chunxue's sudden appearance, he looked up at him, but quickly lowered his head again.
To him, Zhang Chunxue was someone who came to visit other patients, and had nothing to do with him.
However, to his surprise, this seemingly beautiful and shrewd aunt quickly walked to his bedside, looked at him, and her eyes were filled with tears.
"My child, you have suffered."
The little mute boy was stunned.
He even looked to his left and right to make sure Zhang Chunxue was talking to him.
But he didn't know her!
Seeing his bewildered look, Zhang Chunxue forced a smile through her tears: "Have you had dinner? I brought you some food..."
"Hmm...it might be a little cold, but it definitely tastes good...I'll open it and you can try it."
As she spoke, she opened the lunchbox in her hand.
The little mute boy panicked, waving his hands repeatedly and making two "ah ah" sounds.
Zhang Chunxue didn't understand what he meant, so she quickly explained, "Don't worry, I brought this especially for you."
The little mute boy made two more "ah ah" sounds.
An old man on the next bed helped explain: "This little mute has already eaten! He just finished eating!"
Zhang Chunxue was taken aback.
The little mute boy nodded repeatedly.
It took Zhang Chunxue a while to react before she put the lunchbox down and sat on the stool next to her.
“I was worried you hadn’t eaten,” she couldn’t help but reach out and pat the little mute boy’s head.
It's a bit prickly.
The little mute boy was even more confused.
He didn't understand why this aunt who had suddenly appeared would care about him so much.
Her hand stroked his head so gently, not minding at all that there were still some stains on his head because he hadn't washed it.
The little mute boy shrank back, realizing he was going to get the pretty aunt's hands dirty.
Noticing his evasive maneuver, Zhang Chunxue's hand froze.
Zhang Chunxue felt a little hurt: "Do...do you hate me?"
The little mute boy panicked immediately, shaking his head repeatedly and making urgent "ah ah" sounds.
In a moment of desperation, he reached out and grabbed Zhang Chunxue's hand—at least his hands were quite clean after the doctor had cleaned them with alcohol all day.
Sensing that the little mute boy's emotions weren't resistance, Zhang Chunxue felt a sense of relief, and then tears streamed down her face.
She looked at the little mute boy and said solemnly, "Child, I want to adopt you, is that alright?"
The little mute boy's eyes widened in surprise.
For a moment, he wondered if he had misheard.
Zhang Chunxue's tone became tense: "Is it not allowed?"
Just then, a familiar voice came from behind.
"Sister Chunxue? What are you doing here?"
Zhang Chunxue suddenly turned her head.
When she saw Song Xingzhi standing at the door with a lunchbox, her eyes widened.
"Xingzhi? What are you doing here?"
She glanced at the little mute boy, then at Song Xingzhi, her gaze falling on the lunchbox in Song Xingzhi's hand, when a sudden inspiration struck her.
The old man said the little mute had already eaten, so it was Song Xingzhi who got him the food.
The fact that the penniless mute boy was able to be sent to the hospital was also because of Song Xingzhi.
In an instant, Zhang Chunxue connected all the dots.
Her eyes immediately welled up with tears again.
Her rebirth changed many things, allowing Song Xingzhi to find the little mute girl and also allowing her to meet the little mute girl earlier than expected.
Song Xingzhi walked to the little mute boy's bedside, put down the lunchbox, and asked with some surprise, "Sister Chunxue, do you know this child?"
The little mute boy felt even more at ease when he discovered that the uncle who saved him and the kind-looking aunt actually knew each other.
Zhang Chunxue shook her head, suppressing the urge to cry again, and smiled: "I don't know him. Mingli mentioned a pitiful little child at the hospital after she got home. I thought, since my three sons have been separated now, and Xiaoxiao is going to study in the county next month..."
“I’m home alone taking care of Yuanyuan, and I’m also planning to go to the county to start a small business, so I’m thinking of adopting this child so that he can help take care of Yuanyuan.”
Her words were absolutely flawless; everything she said was perfectly reasonable.
Song Xingzhi was also very surprised: "Sister Chunxue, you want to adopt him?"
He had been thinking about what to do with the little mute boy. The best option would be to find someone to adopt him, but these days no one is rich, and it would be difficult to adopt a child who was only a teenager.
