Chapter 200 Third Brother, Big Brother Wants Money
If Zhong Chengyi had previously thought Zhong Hongqing's behavior was naive and cute, after hearing Zhang Chunxue's words, he no longer dared to have such thoughts.
How could a child who is only three years old have such cunning?
His current schemes are merely used to please Zhang Chunxue, or rather, to gain her sympathy and thus stay in her home.
What if he uses this cunning to harm others in the future?
Zhong Chengyi really didn't dare to think about it anymore.
He was now somewhat annoyed that his box of treasures was nowhere to be found. Otherwise, he would have sold all of it, bought a new identity, or settled in the provincial capital. He wouldn't have needed to deal with these trivial matters.
The thought that his treasure buried in Zhong Guosheng's grave had been dug up by some bastard filled Zhong Chengyi with resentment.
He still has a lot of money on him, but he really can't swallow the thought of giving up that box of treasures that's gone.
Back then, it wasn't easy for him to get some good stuff for himself.
Moreover, he had been hiding these items for so many years in fear and trembling. He finally managed to sell a few, but the rest were all taken away. If he doesn't find that person and kill him, Zhong Chengyi will probably regret it for the rest of his life.
Zhong Hongqing's timid voice interrupted Zhong Chengyi's thoughts.
"Third Uncle, what are you thinking about?"
Zhong Chengyi snapped out of his daze and forced a smile: "It's nothing, I was just thinking that now that your parents are divorced, you'll have to suffer with your dad from now on."
Zhong Hongqing hugged Zhong Chengfa's neck, his expression somewhat downcast.
Zhong Chengfa patted him on the back and comforted him, "It's okay. Even if it's just me, I can still raise you well."
He then looked at Zhong Chengyi, his tone hesitant: "Third brother, you know I'm divorced and don't have much money. Would you like to help me out?"
Zhong Chengyi's face immediately turned green: "Big brother, do I look like I have money?"
Zhong Chengfa narrowed his eyes: "Third brother, what kind of shady business are you up to? You don't think I, as your eldest brother, don't know, do you?"
Zhong Chengyi paused for a moment before sighing, "Brother, I really have no money... I don't know which bastard dug up the things I hid outside..."
Zhong Chengfa was stunned for a moment: "He was poached?"
"You hid quite a few things back then, how did someone manage to dig them up?"
Zhong Chengyi looked frustrated as he spoke: "I put them all in a big box, and then someone took the box away too."
Zhong Chengfa, however, didn't quite believe him: "Zhong Chengyi, you're not lying to me, are you?"
His voice was full of doubt.
"Why would I lie to you?" Zhong Chengyi replied irritably. "Haven't you noticed I haven't gone out at all lately?"
"Even if all the goods are gone, I can still go out and sell them."
Zhong Chengfa really didn't want to believe it, but looking at Zhong Chengyi's dejected appearance, it didn't seem like he was lying.
He couldn't help but ask again, "Where did you hide these things? How did they all get stolen?"
Zhong Chengyi opened his mouth but then spoke softly, "I hid it in my father's grave."
Zhong Chengfa: ? ? ?
He stared at Zhong Chengyi in disbelief: "Zhong Chengyi, are you fucking crazy? Aren't you afraid of being struck by lightning?!"
"Didn't Dad come to you in your dreams last night to scold you?"
Zhong Chengyi spoke up again in a sullen voice: "Brother, I'm not superstitious."
Zhong Chengfa couldn't hold back any longer and burst out cursing: "You fucking call this not being non-superstitious, you fucking have audacity!"
"Doesn't that mean every time you want to get something, you have to dig open Dad's vagina?"
"You son of a bitch, Dad's been dead for six years, and you still won't let him rest in peace..."
Zhong Chengfa couldn't hold back any longer and started cursing.
Zhong Chengyi was quite self-righteous: "That's my own father. What's wrong with me asking my own father to keep some things for me?"
Zhong Chengfa's face turned ashen upon hearing this.
But he quickly realized something: "Speaking of which, you've been asking around recently if anyone has been to the back mountain or the vicinity of Dad's grave. Could it be because of this?"
"What else can I do?" Zhong Chengyi said irritably. "I can't just be checking people's household registrations for no reason, can I?"
Zhong Chengfa was speechless for a moment. After a long silence, he sighed and said, "You're just not destined for this!"
Zhong Chengyi retorted, "What do you mean I'm not destined for this? My life is perfectly fine!"
It was rare for Zhong Chengfa to discuss these things with him. Just thinking about the things that had been stolen made his heart ache.
After all, no one knew better than him how many good things Zhong Chengyi had secretly kept.
Two years ago, Dao Ran overheard Zhong Chengyi chatting at home with a former shady dealer. Dao Ran initially thought Zhong Chengyi wanted to try his luck in the underworld with this guy.
Unexpectedly, he overheard his younger brother, who had been a Red Guard, saying that he had some valuable items left over from the past and asking the middleman to help him find a market for them.
Zhong Chengfa was stunned. After all, if he were caught hoarding these things, he would be criticized or even imprisoned!
But Zhong Chengyi was still muttering to himself, "I have quite a few good things! Calligraphy and paintings, ancient books, some ancient jade, snuff bottles, small trinkets and the like..."
"Large items? There aren't many large items; most of them are privately collected. Large items are hard to hide!"
"...Alright, let's meet at Balixiang the night after tomorrow. Bring something for Master Qin to verify then..."
Zhong Chengfa became increasingly alarmed as he listened.
Zhang Chunxue disapproved of her third brother joining the Red Guards back then, saying it was too immoral.
However, Zhong Chengyi was determined to go, and Zhang Chunxue couldn't stop him or resist his persistent pleas, so she let him go.
Zhong Chengfa thought Zhong Chengyi was very bold back then, but now that he sees it, he's incredibly bold!
He dared to keep these deadly gadgets for himself?
But from then on, Zhong Chengfa knew that his third brother had plenty of ways to make money.
The reason he was so confident in divorcing Li Hongjuan was that he was hoping to get some benefits from Zhong Chengyi.
Seeing Zhong Chengfa's sullen face and silence, Zhong Chengyi assumed he still didn't believe him and clicked his tongue: "If you don't believe me, go ask Zhong Xiaoyang! He went with me to dig up my dad's grave..."
"Zhong Xiaoyang?" Zhong Cheng was taken aback. "How did he end up digging graves with you?"
Zhong Chengyi replied casually, "Isn't this taking him along when I'm out and about?"
Upon hearing this, Zhong Chengfa's face turned green: "So you're bringing in an outsider to make money, but not me? I'm your own brother!"
