Chapter 101: Mailing Dried Fruits

Wang Shuning stood up hesitantly and nodded to Liao Tingming.

Judging from his half-exposed arms at the wrists, his skin must have been very white.

To be tanned so dark, he must have either been on a business trip at sea in a short period of time, or he has been staying outdoors all the time, and his skin color has not had time to recover.

"My home is in Nanyuan, Beijing. I wonder where Teacher Wang's home is in Beijing?" Liao Tingming asked after sitting down.

Wang Shuning smiled and said, "My home is in the south courtyard of Xiacheng, which is quite far away from Nanyuan."

Liao Tingming nodded thoughtfully. The South City Compound was quite far away. There seemed to be many factories there. Someone in her family should be working in the factory, so she could be considered a worker's child.

"I wonder who else is in your family, Mr. Wang? Your family must be worried about you being in the countryside in City D all by yourself."

Wang Shuning's toes were almost leaving nail marks on the soles of his shoes. He asked all kinds of questions, just like a blind date. "My family was really worried, especially after I was transferred to Jinshan Island."

Liao Tingming: "What does Teacher Wang like to do at home?"

Wang Shuning: "I prefer to be alone, looking at the scenery and daydreaming. Sometimes I also listen to the radio to kill time."

Ding Hui walked around and came back to find the two people sitting there. They looked unfamiliar and the atmosphere was awkward.

So she quickly tried to smooth things over, "You must be hungry since you came here so early in the morning. Food and snacks are served over there. You can go get some and bring them over to eat."

During the half-hour contact, Liao Tingming could naturally sense that Wang Shuning was too polite to him and not close enough to him. She didn't want to know too much, nor did she want others to know more about her. Maybe she didn't like him.

So during the lunch break, he took his plate and changed his seat.

Seeing this, Ding Hui said to Wang Shuning, "Why don't you talk to him properly? Liao Tingming's conditions are already top-notch among these people, but no one else meets your mother's requirement of being a local Beijinger."

Wang Shuning straightened his upper body and said, "Aunt Ding, I'm actually fine being alone right now. It's not that I don't want to find someone, I just haven't met anyone I like."

Ding Hui sat down with her plate in hand and said earnestly, "Relationships need to be developed slowly. If you don't give others a chance, there won't be so many loves at first sight in the world. You young girls must be practical and look for a partner who you can live with."

Wang Shuning: "I just don't want to force myself. Besides, I'm still young and I have a few years to find one slowly."

Ding Hui pursed her lips and was too lazy to speak again. After a moment, she said, "Forget it. It's useless for me to talk too much about your own affairs. Since you are already here, you should eat more. If you don't like men, you can look at more women. It would be nice to make more friends on the island."

Wang Shuning nodded. He had to admit that although the meals he made himself were not as delicious as those made by Guo Jingyi, there were two Western desserts that tasted quite good, sweet but not greasy. The main problem was that they were not available at the supply and marketing cooperative, and he didn't know who made them.

After dinner, Wang Shuning didn't make any female friends. The other girls were all chatting with boys. The only two free ones saw that Wang Shuning was as pretty as them, so they regarded her as a competitor and naturally didn't want to pay any attention to her.

So after sitting for ten minutes, Wang Shuning left with his bag.

Zeng Chun stared at Wang Shuning's back as she crossed the threshold, then turned to ask Liao Tingming, "Is it you who doesn't like her, or is it she who doesn't like you?"

Liao Tingming smiled bitterly and drooped his shoulders, "She doesn't like me."

Zeng Chun glared, "Maybe they like white ones, but you are as black as coal."

Liao Tingming was silent. He became a company commander at a young age. No matter how picky the other party was, he should be able to look down on him. He reached out to touch his face, but unfortunately there was no mirror in front of him. Could it be that his dark skin really blocked his luck in love?

Wang Shuning went home and moved a reclining chair to sit in the yard to bask in the sun. It was early autumn now and the temperature was just right. If it were summer, he would have been sunburned to death.

In another month, the temperature will drop to around 15 degrees. It is said that this temperature will continue on Jinshan Island until next summer.

When I closed my eyes and opened them again, half an hour had passed.

She turned and went into the house and came to the space to pick fruit. Since she was already on the island, she could take out the tropical fruits and enjoy them without restraint. If she couldn't finish them, she would cut them into strips, dry them, and send them back to Song's mother and others.

The chicken coop can collect seven or eight eggs every day. Wang Shuning cannot finish eating all of them, so he puts them in a basket in the bamboo house. They won’t go bad anyway, so he will find a way to sell them when he goes home during the winter and summer vacations.

Mango, pineapple, banana, lychee, durian, jackfruit...

Wang Shuning only picked the biggest ones.

Take it to the kitchen, peel it, slice it, and dry it on the second-floor balcony using a bamboo sieve.

A week later, Wang Shuning sent away three sacks of various dried fruits and two sacks of dried abalone, sea cucumbers and squid rings.

Ding Hui was standing on the second floor and saw the postman weighing things in the yard next door, so she ran over to take a look.

"The postage for so many things will probably cost several cents."

Wang Shuning replied: "These fruits and seafood in Beijing are not only expensive but also hard to buy. I dry them in the sun, and once the water evaporates, they won't weigh much."

The postman stared at the scale and calculated, "Drying does not count, but Mr. Wang sent too much. All these add up to 68 cents."

Ding Hui has a toothache, and this is a lot of money. It would be better for her to take it back herself during the holidays and save the postage.

School corridor.

"Teacher Wang, I heard that before you came to support, you signed a contract that allowed you to be transferred back after three years?" Gao Ziyuan held the textbook in his hand, staring closely at the expression on Wang Shuning's face, feeling a little uneasy.

Gao Ziyuan is the only male teacher who came to support Jinshan Island Primary School besides Wang Shuning. He is responsible for teaching Chinese, history and other subjects to students in grades five and six.

One reason was because of their different genders, and the other was because they taught different classes and subjects. Normally, the two of them didn't talk much in the office. If they met by chance, they would just nod and say hello, and there wasn't much communication between them.

Hearing this question, Wang Shuning was stunned for a moment before nodding and answering, "Yes, the school's dean said before that after the three-year term is over, I can transfer back if I want."

Gao Ziyuan felt as if his chest was being strangled. Before he was transferred to the island, the school leaders did not tell him so confidently. They only said that he could be transferred back when the school on the island was no longer short of teachers.

But when I got here I realized that the two teachers who taught first and second grades were quite old, and there would be an even greater shortage of teachers after they retired, which meant that there would be no sign of me being transferred back.

I only regret that I didn't ask clearly when I was greedy for the support subsidy. Why would Wang Shuning, who had just taken up the position, definitely leave after three years?

Gao Ziyuan changed the subject and asked, "I heard that Teacher Wang attended a social gathering held on the island a few days ago. Did he find anyone he liked?"

It would be best if she could find a partner on the island. If they get married, she might not want to be transferred away after three years.
