When Wang Shuning came back to teach, the students in the third and fourth grade classes looked at her with sparkling eyes throughout the entire class.
It doesn't look like she was concentrating in class, I was just looking at her as a person.
"Is it so ugly when the teacher turns black?" Wang Shuning curled the corners of his mouth helplessly, and what he heard went in one ear and out the other, so he could not understand anything.
Zhu Yuanyuan shook her head and shouted, "Teacher Wang looks good even when she's dark."
"Then why are you staring at the teacher? Is there something wrong with the teacher's face?"
Mu Ziheng raised his hand, his eyes widened, and he looked curious, "Teacher, you have been drifting on the sea for a month, is it like Robinson Crusoe?"
Wang Shuning grinned. So this is what they were thinking. "Almost the same, except that Robinson Crusoe stayed on the desert island for a long time, while the teacher was drifting in the sea the whole time."
The students' mouths opened wide.
Hu Yongping asked: "Did the teacher see the giant shark?"
Feng Guoqiang also said that a shark jumped onto their boat, which caused him and Teacher Wang to fall into the water.
Wang Shuning shook his head. “The teacher didn’t see the shark. The ocean is so big. The teacher is like an ant on the ground. No one cares about him.”
"Ah..." Hu Yongping felt lost.
The bell rang and Wang Shuning packed up his textbooks. "get out of class is over. Everyone, do your homework well. The teacher will collect it for inspection tomorrow."
"Goodbye, teacher."
When I got home, Song's mother was picking vegetables in the yard.
Wang Jianguo was digging the ground with a hoe when he saw his little daughter coming back. He muttered, "The ground is too hard. The vegetables we grow won't grow well because their roots can't breathe."
Wang Shuning put down his bag and said, "I have been away from home for more than a month, and many vegetables have gone old."
Most of the vegetables in the yard were transplanted by her from the space and do not require much care.
But when her parents came, it became less convenient for her to get things, and when they were on the island, they could only eat what was grown in the yard.
Wang Jianguo said, "I went to the supply and marketing cooperative today and bought a lot of vegetable seeds. I'll plan the yard well. When your mother and I get home, you won't have to worry for two or three months."
Song's mother came up with a basket and scraped the dirt off the soles of her shoes. "The seafood on the island is really cheap. The crabs are bigger than the palm of your hand and only cost three or four cents per pound. They are so lively and their claws can pinch your hand. I bought four in the morning and made spicy crabs in the evening."
The food is so cheap that even if my little daughter eats white rice for every meal, forty yuan a month is more than enough. What's more, she can eat lunch at school and save a meal.
When cooking in the evening, Song Guiying simply didn't let her youngest daughter interfere.
When the couple arrived on the island, they had nothing to do all day and could only cook three meals.
Wang Shuning went to work at school today. Song Guiying and Wang Jianguo found out almost everything about the situation of each family in the family quarters in just one day.
The younger daughter has a very good reputation in the family compound, and the only thing that worries Song's mother is her safety.
Unexpectedly, before this incident happened, pirates broke into the island, and the youngest daughter was a heroine who bravely fought against the pirates. There was also a certificate of merit issued by the army in the drawer under the cabinet in the living room.
I heard that a gun was fired at that time. When did this kid become so brave? If he hadn't gone to the countryside alone after graduating from high school, he wouldn't have grown up so fast.
I have sent so many letters home, always reporting good news but not bad news. I feel sorry for him because he is so sensible.
"I heard from Aunt Ding next door that Liao Tingming has been taking good care of you? Is he an old acquaintance in Chaoyang County?" Song's mother smashed the crab claws with a small hammer. She was too old and had bad teeth to bite the crab, so she had to use tools.
Wang Shuning broke open the crab shell and found that the female crab had a lot of crab roe. Although Song's mother had never lived on an island, her skill in cooking seafood was not bad at all, and it tasted much better than what she made herself.
"Mom, we are just ordinary friends. We just say hello and chat with each other when we meet on the street occasionally. Don't ask around on the island. People will think I am so eager to get married."
Mother Song raised her eyebrows. "I didn't ask. It was Aunt Ding next door who told me about it. She seems to care more about whether you have a partner than I do."
Wang Shuning suppressed her laughter. "Aunt Ding works at the Women's Committee on the island. She sometimes acts as a matchmaker. The last social gathering was organized by their unit."
Mother Song nodded in understanding. "That Aunt Ding is very enthusiastic. I heard that her husband is the battalion commander?"
Wang Shuning nodded, "Yes, Captain Feng is a good person, and his two children are in our class."
Wang Jianguo, who was sitting next to him, rolled his eyes.
The next day.
Song Guiying and Wang Jianguo, who had already strolled around the island yesterday, had no intention of looking around again. One of them sat under the eaves concentrating on making clothes, while the other was turning the soil and planting vegetables in the yard.
People of their generation just can't sit still and always have to find something to do.
The radio was placed at the door, but it was not quiet at all.
After a week of classes, Wang Shuning took advantage of the weekend to take his parents to the beach to catch seafood.
For fishermen, catching seafood is a livelihood, but for Wang Shuning, it is fun.
These seafoods are not as big as those sold in the market, the main thing is the sense of accomplishment.
Song's mother wore a straw hat and straightened her back as she looked at the sea. "The climate here is comfortable, just like a vacation."
Wang Jianguo agreed. He had been working on the land in the yard every day these days and now that he had finished the work, he was really a little bored.
Wang Shuning smiled and said, "If you like, you can come and stay here often. I will stay on the island for at least two more years."
Hearing this, Song's mother couldn't help but start to remind her: "You live alone on the island with no one to take care of you. Don't go to places where there are no people. I think this place is not suitable for you. Other people's families are fine, but you are unlucky. Don't run around during your rest time. It's good to stay at home and read a book or listen to the radio. Your waist is only a little thicker than a chopstick, so you don't need to lose weight."
Aunt Ding said that if her youngest daughter hadn’t been running around the island every day to lose weight, she wouldn’t have encountered the enemy and been captured.
Wang Shuning twitched his brows and looked down at his waist. What did he mean by thicker than chopsticks? He would be so skinny that only bones were left.
"I understand. I will never act alone again. Even if I need to exercise, I will only do it in the family area." After what happened last time, I was really a little scared.
"Teacher Wang, Wang Shuning." Someone called from the road in the distance.
Wang Shuning turned his head and saw that it seemed to be Lu Zhouyuan.
Song's mother shielded her eyes from the sunlight with her hands. She was wearing a military uniform and was a soldier.
Lu Zhouyuan ran over and greeted Song's mother and Wang Jianguo, "Hello, uncle and aunt."
Then he said to Wang Shuning, "Teacher Wang, our platoon leader asked you to go to the troops. There is news from Zhejiang."
Wang Shuning's eyes lit up, "Found it?"
Lu Zhouyuan nodded, "It seems so."
Wang Shuning handed the bucket to Wang Jianguo and said, "Mom and Dad, you guys go back first. I have something to do in the army."
Wang Jianguo took the bucket and said, "Okay, go ahead. Your mom and I will go back and make lunch."
After Wang Shuning followed Lu Zhouyuan away, Song's mother had a trace of worry on her face, "That soldier was the one who went home. I wonder what he wants to see Xiaoning about?"
