Chapter 150: Sickness and Lack of Medicine

On Jinshan Island, Dong Yongguang ordered his subordinates to investigate the batch of grain that appeared in the cave to find out who hid it.

Without revealing the specific quantity and type of grain, Zhao Qiming ordered his subordinates to go door to door to find out the information.

Tang Qinggang stood at the door and knocked. The typhoon behind him blew his outermost raincoat into the air. "Teacher Wang, Teacher Wang."

Wang Shuning ran out of the room, put his knees against the door, and pulled out the bolt with his hands, "What's wrong? Come in quickly."

It was so windy today that the door could hardly be closed.

Tang Qinggang grabbed the door handle with both hands, closed the door, took off his raincoat, and dripped water all over the floor. "Teacher Wang, before you disappeared, you often ran around the island. Did you see anyone carrying things to the rocky mountain on the north side of the island?"

Wang Shuning frowned in confusion, moved his eyes to the left, pretending to recall and think.

After a moment, she shook her head and replied, "No, I didn't see anyone. Did something happen?"

Tang Qinggang explained: "Yesterday the patrol team found a lot of food in the cave behind, and the meals distributed today were made from that food. The brigade commander was worried that the islanders might have stored it, so he came to ask."

Wang Shuning raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Hidden food in a cave? Aren't you afraid it will be stolen? Are there people on the island with such good conditions?"

Tang Qinggang's eyes flickered, and he couldn't help but lower his voice, "The residents on the island probably don't have any of these conditions. There are too many things, and I don't think they can save that much even if they earn money for a lifetime."

Wang Shuning opened his mouth slightly, "How much does that cost in a lifetime?"

Tang Qinggang stretched out his hand to open the door and leave, "Enough for the people on the island to eat for more than half a month."

The door was opened, and the strong wind blew Wang Shuning's hair everywhere, making her look like a female ghost in the dark night with disheveled hair.

Tang Qinggang reminded: "It's been raining hard these past two days, so lock the doors and windows and don't open the door unless someone comes."

Wang Shuning nodded obediently.

It’s only been half a month. If the weather at sea continues to be so bad, I will have to come a second time.

All the food in the space has been cleared out, and there is only enough food for two harvests in half a month.

She looked out the window at the sunflower that was bent by the wind and had lost its leaves.

When the weather gets better, there probably won’t be a single shady spot on the island, and it will completely turn into a bald hedgehog.

Ding Hui's family, who live next door, is in a very bad situation at the moment.

Feng Lili was sick. After taking the antipyretic medicine sent by the health center, she still had a low-grade fever.

The doctor on the island came to see me in the rain and said it was a sore throat and a bacterial infection.

Children have weak resistance, and the sleeping bags issued by the army are not as warm as quilts, so they are not as warm to sleep in.

If you continue to catch cold, the disease will not be easy to recover, and even acute diseases will turn into chronic diseases.

When the doctor from the health center came to check on me in the afternoon, he said, "There are many people suffering from colds and illnesses on the island, so we have to use medicine sparingly. Fortunately, it's not that serious."

In the face of a shortage of medical supplies, doctors want to save more lives, but as a mother, Ding Hui doesn't care about that much.

"What if the fever keeps burning her brain? My daughter Lili has been feeling dizzy and weak these past two days. Western medicine is not enough. Is there any Chinese medicine?"

The doctor shook his head in embarrassment, "There is no Chinese medicine on the island."

After leaving enough antipyretic medicine for three doses, the doctor went to the next house wearing a raincoat and carrying a medicine box.

It's really painful to go out on this day.

At night, Feng Guoqiang slept alone in a sleeping bag, while Ding Hui held Feng Lili in her arms. The two sleeping bags put together could keep them a little warmer.

Feng Lili, who had been having a low fever, had a hot upper body and a cold lower body, and was sweating coldly. Ding Hui was extremely anxious, but Feng Yunhao was not at home.

The next day, Ding Hui looked at the remaining small candle with frustration in her eyes.

No matter how economical you use candles, they can't last long enough to be used every day. Who would store candles before the power outage?

Feng Guoqiang sat on a stool and could see the light from next door through the window. He suddenly thought of something and turned to his mother and shouted, "Mom, Teacher Wang has a medicine box at home. I cut my hand with a reed before, and she gave me a Band-Aid."

Ding Hui turned around and stared at him: "Really?"

Feng Guoqiang nodded, "But I don't know if there are any cold medicines or fever-reducing medicines in the medicine box."

Ding Hui put on her raincoat and tied it with a rope, then told Feng Guoqiang, "Mom will go to the next door. Once the door is closed, you should immediately put the bolt in. I will hold it from outside."

Feng Guoqiang followed closely behind his mother, and the moment the door was opened, the wind almost blew him down.

Ding Hui rushed to the next door and knocked hard on the door.

Wang Shuning heard the bangs and came down from the second floor, "Who is it?"

Ding Hui yelled, "It's me."

Wang Shuning opened the door: "Aunt Ding, it's raining so hard, why are you here?"

Ding Hui asked worriedly, "My daughter Lili caught a cold. The doctor prescribed a few medicines, and she has been having intermittent fevers. Guoqiang asked if you have a medicine box at home. Do you have any cold medicine?"

Wang Shuning suddenly realized and nodded, "Yes, I'll go get it for you."

She ran upstairs to the second floor and took the medicine box down from the cabinet, opened the lid, and found a complete set of daily medicines inside.

"Did the doctor prescribe any medicine? See if there's anything the same. Children and adults may take different medicines."

Ding Hui reached out and dug out two small medicine bottles from the second layer. "This is it. This is what the doctor prescribed."

When the doctor was administering the medicine, she saw with her own eyes that he poured the medicine out of the bag and wrapped it in a paper bag.

When leaving, Ding Hui saw four long candles on the table on the first floor that had not been used yet, and asked casually, "Does Teacher Wang have more candles?"

Wang Shuning turned his head and said, "Well, I like to stock up things. Before the tsunami came, I put a lot of things on the second floor."

"Can you lend me two? We're running out of candles at home."

Wang Shuning picked up the four sticks on the table and handed them to her. "It's been raining for so many days, I think it will be sunny soon."

Ding Hui stuffed the medicine and candles into her clothes to prevent them from getting wet. "Who knows? I don't know what's going on with Yunhao. The island is in such a mess, and there's no news. If I had known there would be an earthquake and tsunami, I should have taken the two children back home even if he disagreed."

It's bad enough that we have to suffer, but there's no medicine even for medical treatment.

Wang Shuning could not fully understand Ding Hui's feelings as a mother. Who could have thought that an accident would happen? The novel did not mention a single word about the situation on Jinshan Island.

Inside Dong Yongguang’s office.

Zhao Qiming stood in front of the table. "I have been checking for two days, but there is no news. There was a resident on the island who said he put it there, but when I asked him, he didn't know anything. The number didn't match at all. He must be lying."

That person simply wanted to take advantage of the situation and claim the grain.

There was a hint of relief in Dong Yongguang's deep gaze. "In about seven days, the storm will stop."

There have been no aftershocks of the Haiti earthquake for eleven days, and this extremely bad weather should stop.
