Chapter 95: Sea Hunting

The people around stayed at home and watched the show. As for Captain Feng's two children, the son was noisy and the daughter was well-behaved. They were born a few minutes apart in the same womb, but their personalities were very different. Whether they were noisy or not, at least it was lively.

There are few people on the island, and if the children are silent, wouldn't it be lonely?

The next afternoon, Ding Huilai asked Wang Shuning to go to the beach. "The tide just receded this morning. If you are lucky, you can pick up a lot of small seafood on the beach. You can eat several meals by yourself."

The price of seafood on the island is not expensive, and Wang Shuning's salary as a teacher in school is definitely more than enough to support himself. He goes to the sea for fun and to kill time, so as to avoid getting sick from idleness at home.

Wang Shuning was wearing a big straw hat. The sun shone on his head, and the shadow covered his neck. He was also wearing a thin long coat, and only the sandals on his feet revealed a little skin.

The sunlight on Jinshan Island is very strong and there is little shelter at the beach. If you stay outside for a few hours without proper sun protection, you will get a layer of sunburned skin when you return.

"There are small holes where there are no puddles on the beach where you can dig for razor clams. They run too fast, and you may not be able to catch them even if you dig half a meter deep with a shovel. I'll take you to the rocky reef. Every time the tide goes out, there are crabs and fish left there. If all else fails, you can dig oysters from the rocks and steam them. They taste good, too."

Just by listening to Ding Hui's talk, Wang Shuning couldn't wait to catch it himself. He felt that things obtained by one's own labor always tasted especially delicious.

"You two, don't run around. Follow me and don't go too far." Ding Hui turned around and reminded Feng Guoqiang and Feng Lili.

The sea water rises from time to time, and if you don't remember the time clearly, it is not uncommon for people on the island to be swept away by the sea.

"Mom, I understand." Feng Guoqiang followed beside her with a small bucket in his hand. His bare feet were dark, probably from being exposed to the sun.

When we arrived at the reef, we saw seven or eight people bending over, looking for something.

Ding Hui: "Oh, let's hurry up and look for them, or else everyone will take them away."

Wang Shuning walked to the big rock with curiosity. There was sea water next to the rock, but the cracks inside were empty. Not even a piece of seaweed could be seen. There was only sand under the cracks in the rock, and no seafood could be seen.

There are quite a few oysters on the reef. They are all relatively small and look quite dry due to the wind and sun. I wonder how long they have been stuck there.

Wang Shuning used a knife to pry one open. The thumb-sized piece of white meat looked juicy, but it was a lot of effort. It was so small, and it would take a long time to pry it open for a meal. A dozen or so would be enough to make steamed eggs.

The orchid crab, which was half the size of a palm, huddled under the reef. Its two claws were quite strong. When Wang Shuning tried to clamp it with pliers, the crab's claws immediately clamped on the pliers and the crab backed away repeatedly, fearing that it would be dragged out by Wang Shuning.

After being thrown into the bucket, the orchid crab kept spinning, hitting the wall and unable to climb up. After a while, it was so tired that it stopped moving.

Ding Hui said cheerfully, "Not bad, if you catch another head, you can go back and cook a dish."

Feng Guoqiang, who was looking for seafood nearby, ran over and looked inside. With a competitive spirit, he hurriedly ran to a place fifty meters away to look for it.

It took Wang Shuning a long time to catch the second orchid crab. He also picked up a large conch in the middle. He weighed it in his hand and estimated that it weighed less than one pound.

Farther away from the sea, you can see dried kelp and seaweed on the dry beach.

The azure sky, the white clouds in clusters, the sound of waves lapping at ears, one glance makes one feel relaxed and happy, all thoughts in the mind disappear completely, the sweat on the back has dried before it starts to become sticky.

Seeing Wang Shuning put the bucket on the ground, straightened his body and looked into the distance with a look of enjoyment on his face, Ding Hui couldn't help but ask, "Can Teacher Wang swim?"

Wang Shuning turned his head to look at her and shook his head, "I can't swim. I'm a landlubber, but I've always wanted to learn how to swim."

After hearing this, Ding Hui smiled and said, "Since we are already on the island, find a chance for Lili to teach you. This child has already learned it two years ago."

Except for soldiers and fishermen, most people on the island would not go into the sea. The waves on Jinshan Island are relatively large, and people who are not good at swimming can easily be swept away by the waves. If they run out of strength halfway through swimming, they are likely to drown.

But not being able to swim does not mean you have no ability to save yourself, so it is better to learn.

When the four of them returned, their feet were covered in sand.

Wang Shuning caught three crabs, an octopus, some conchs and oysters. Ding Hui and her two children also had a good harvest.

After returning home, Wang Shuning immediately took a shower and went out to cook.

The sun was high in the sky, and she had picked up the seafood herself, so she couldn't wait to eat them all immediately.

Stir-fried crabs and octopus, steamed conchs, and steamed oysters with eggs, these four dishes plus a stir-fried vegetable, are enough to fill you up.

At the Wang family's home in Beijing, Song's mother was complaining to Wang Jianguo.

"She has to go to Jinshan Island instead of staying in the village. It takes four or five days to go there from home. Isn't this a torture for her?"

Wang Jianguo stood up from the stool and reached out to save the crumpled letter. "You have read this letter many times. The paper is almost torn by you."

"I didn't know where Jinshan Island was at the time. After reading what she wrote in the letter, I thought it was a great place. But when I met Li Lan today and asked her, I realized that it was in a remote corner."

Wang Jianguo spread out the letter paper, and found that the creases had become much thinner. "If it were in a town, a position like primary school teacher would not be suitable for an outsider like Xiao Ning. The locals would have taken it long ago."

Song Guiying sneered, "Didn't it say in the letter that Xiao Ning got this job through interviewing herself? Going to Jinshan Island to provide support was an accident, and she will be back in a few years."

No matter how you put it, Wang Jianguo said, "Since you think this job is good, why are you still complaining here?"

Song Guiying pursed her lips and said, "Being a teacher is definitely more comfortable than working in the fields. She has been transferred to such a far place, and I don't know if she can come back for the New Year this year. You don't allow me to say a few words!"

Wang Jianguo wanted to plug his ears. Wasn't this complaint just nonsense?

Song Guiying turned her back and looked outside the door. "It's been more than ten days since the child arrived at Jinshan Island. How come he hasn't sent a letter back yet? I don't know what the conditions are like there."

Wang Jianguo, who was about to enter the room, raised his foot and then stepped back down. He wanted to say something and then closed his mouth.

Forget it, talking too much will only lead to being scolded.

"Is Song Guiying at home? There is a letter for you." Speak of the devil and he will appear.

The postman, dressed in green, parked his bicycle in front of her house.

Song Guiying immediately ran out, shouting, "I'm home, where did you send it from?"

The postman glanced at the address on the envelope and said, "Dashan City, the sender is Wang Shuning."

Song Guiying quickly reached out and took the letter and thanked him, "It's from my daughter."
