Gu Changzheng had already discovered Lu Zhengde a long time ago.
Hearing his voice, he looked up.
"I am."
"Oh, oh, oh, I'm your Uncle Lu. We met when you were little." Lu Zhengde introduced himself with a smile.
The people were quite enthusiastic and came forward to help Gu Changzheng carry his things.
"Why didn't you go home after you came back? Why did you come here instead? Jiaojiao is a bit spoiled and willful, you don't need to spoil her all the time."
Lu Zhengde's words are probably something every father would say.
Most people wouldn't take such words seriously.
But Gu Changzheng took it seriously.
"Uncle Lu, Jiaojiao is my wife. If I don't spoil her, who will?"
Lu Zhengde choked.
He was just saying that casually; he certainly didn't mean he didn't want his son-in-law to treat his daughter badly. But how could Gu Changzheng not understand that?
Lu Zhengde was somewhat puzzled.
She even began to feel a little regretful, wondering if she had made a mistake by agreeing to let Jiaojiao marry Gu Changzheng.
After all, this son-in-law doesn't seem to be very bright.
It's alright for him to stay in the countryside his whole life, but if he were to come to the city someday, someone like him would definitely not be able to adapt to city life. He wouldn't even be able to handle simple interpersonal relationships...
Lu Zhengde felt a pang of regret.
She followed Gu Changzheng toward the courtyard gate, deciding to give Jiaojiao a private suggestion: if he really wasn't suitable, divorce was an option.
He hadn't walked more than a few steps when Gu Changzheng, who was walking ahead, stopped first.
The sudden stop caused Lu Zhengde to almost bump into Gu Changzheng's back.
This made him a little angry.
"Why did you suddenly stop walking when you were walking perfectly fine?"
His voice sounded alright at first glance, but if you listened carefully, you could hear the dissatisfaction in it.
Gu Changzheng clicked his tongue against his back teeth and said with a half-smile, "Uncle Lu, Jiaojiao might not be too welcoming to you. In order not to make her angry, you should go back to your home first. I'll ask Jiaojiao again when she wakes up to see if she wants to see you."
"What? What do you mean by that? I'm Jiaojiao's father, how could she not welcome me?"
Lu Zhengde was truly angry this time.
He thought that Gu Changzheng was talking nonsense and was completely unreliable!
Gu Changzheng was not angry. Instead, he opened the courtyard gate and let Lu Zhengde see the bare courtyard in front of him.
Lu Zhengde was puzzled.
"What are you looking at?"
He didn't realize something was wrong.
Gu Changzheng suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for his beloved wife.
Although she was never short of money, she lacked true fatherly love, didn't she? Of course, it cannot be denied that Lu Zhengde did not love Lu Huaijiao, but perhaps the kind of love Lu Zhengde had was not what Lu Huaijiao needed.
That's how it is now.
Despite Lu Huaijiao's great attention to the flowers in the garden, Lu Zhengde couldn't even remember them.
Gu Changzheng's expression gradually turned cold.
"Uncle Lu, there used to be a garden in this yard, which Jiaojiao and her grandmother planted together."
"Then what?"
Lu Zhengde still didn't know the problem.
Gu Changzheng suddenly realized that talking to people like this was a real brain drain.
"Then, don't you want to know who pulled up all the flowers in this garden?"
When Gu Changzheng said this, his gaze was somewhat aggressive.
Lu Zhengde was stunned for a moment, not expecting that a young man from the countryside could have such a look in his eyes. However, he was only slightly stunned and quickly recovered.
"If you pull out a few flowers and plants, that's fine; you can just replant them later."
Lu Zhengde knew perfectly well who had the key to this courtyard.
Therefore, he knew perfectly well who had pulled up the flowers and plants in Lu Huaijiao's yard.
However, he felt that those flowers and plants were not particularly important, so they were not worth paying so much attention to.
Gu Changzheng found Lu Zhengde's words laughable.
“This was planted by Jiaojiao and her grandmother. It contains not only flowers and plants, but also beautiful memories of Jiaojiao and her grandmother. Don’t you also think that they are unimportant?”
"this……"
Lu Zhengde hesitated.
Gu Changzheng, however, did not want to talk to him anymore.
He turned and stepped inside, then glanced back at Lu Zhengde, who was still standing there.
"Uncle Lu, you can't be so greedy. When you choose one thing, you're destined to lose another treasure."
After saying that, he slammed the courtyard gate shut in front of Lu Zhengde and then bolted it.
Gu Changzheng displayed his attitude towards his father-in-law, whom he was meeting formally for the first time since he grew up.
What Lu Zhengde doesn't care about is his treasure, and he won't let anyone easily bully his treasure, not even his own father, Lu Zhengde.
Gu Changzheng walked across the yard to the kitchen, put the things down, washed his hands and went upstairs. He gently pushed open the door and saw Lu Huaijiao sleeping soundly. He smiled and reached out to pinch her cheek.
"Gu Changzheng, you're so annoying."
Lu Huaijiao mumbled something in her sleep.
She impatiently slapped his hand away, turned over with the blanket, and showed Gu Changzheng the back of her head.
Gu Changzheng was amused by this action.
"Lu Huaijiao, even when you're asleep, you still remember to curse me?"
She was complaining, but her tone was filled with tenderness and sweetness.
