Gu Tiezhu came to find Gu Changzheng after work.
From afar, they could see Gu Changzheng running home, looking extremely anxious, as if something terrible had happened.
"The Long March?"
Gu Tiezhu was also a little anxious and hurried to catch up.
"The Long March?"
Gu Tiezhu's voice rang out beside him, but Gu Changzheng had no interest in acknowledging his good brother at the moment. He reached out and pushed the door open.
Almost at the same time, Lu Huaijiao also rushed out of the kitchen.
With her was a little dog that kept barking.
The man and his dog looked utterly disheveled. His girl, whom he usually cherished and pampered, even making him brush his teeth before a kiss, now had her fair face covered in soot.
My eyes were red from the smoke, and tears kept streaming down my face.
Gu Changzheng was stunned when he saw this scene.
"Jiaojiao..."
With tears streaming down her face from the smoke, Lu Huaijiao, in the brief moment before she was about to go blind, heard Gu Changzheng's familiar voice. She looked up in Gu Changzheng's direction, her lips trembling as she burst into tears.
She jogged a few steps forward, threw herself into Gu Changzheng's arms, and hugged him tightly.
"Gu Changzheng, you're finally back."
The poor thing is so pitiful; it speaks with a thick nasal tone, and it looks so aggrieved.
She wrinkled her nose and rubbed her cheek against his chest.
She complained in a soft, coquettish voice.
"Gu Changzheng, our stove is broken."
"I wanted to start a fire and cook, so you could see my culinary skills, but no matter how I tried, the fire wouldn't start; all that came out was smoke."
The little black dog beside them, seemingly to prove that its mistress wasn't lying, wagged its tail and kept tugging at Gu Changzheng's trouser leg, whimpering softly.
Gu Changzheng: ? ? ?
Is it possible that the stove isn't broken, but rather that his child doesn't know how to start a fire?
Although this is probably the truth, seeing the little girl looking so pitiful, his heart softened, so how could he possibly say that she didn't know how to start a fire?
He reached out and hugged the person.
He placed a kiss on her head and whispered, "Mmm, the stove is broken. Your husband will avenge you right away and fix it properly."
As soon as he finished speaking, he cupped the person's cheek and kissed them.
"Our baby has suffered so much. Tell your husband if he's hurt?"
"He's injured."
"Where does it hurt? Let me see."
The man's tone immediately became tense.
Lu Huaijiao lifted her head from his embrace and pointed to her reddened eyes: "My eyes are about to be blinded by the smoke."
"Um?"
Gu Changzheng lowered his eyes and bent down to gently breathe on her eyes.
After a long pause, he finally spoke: "Are you done?"
"Um……"
Lu Huaijiao gave a slightly awkward "hmm". She hadn't noticed before, but now she realized there was someone else in the kitchen helping to "put out the fire".
It's Brother Tiezhu.
No matter how thick-skinned Lu Huaijiao was, she couldn't be intimate with Gu Changzheng in front of outsiders.
Once she recovered from the smoke, she unhesitatingly reached out and wiped her hands on Gu Changzheng's clothes.
Gu Changzheng: ...
"Your hands are dirty."
Lu Huaijiao raised her head and spoke pitifully.
Gu Changzheng: ...
So the dirt was wiped on his clothes? Very well, that's very Lu Huaijiao.
"Come and wash your face."
He turned around angrily, fetched water, and resignedly served Lu Huaijiao, washing her smoky face clean and her hands until they were white and tender. After carefully checking them to make sure that apart from a red burn, there were no other injuries, his heart finally settled down.
He turned around and went inside to find some ointment, then held her hand and carefully applied it to the reddened area.
His movements were exceptionally gentle. Even a rebellious person like Lu Huaijiao would soften her heart at this moment because of his gentle actions.
"Gu Changzheng, am I really that useless?"
Lu Huaijiao sniffled, her small, red nose tinged with a sob in her soft voice: "I can't do anything right, I can't even do something as simple as starting a fire. Am I really that annoying?"
How could that be?
Gu Changzheng looked up, took her hand, and placed a kiss on her fingertips.
"Baby, you don't need to learn anything. In my eyes, you are the best as you are."
He offered words of comfort, but in his heart he was thinking that he must spend more time with her in the future, seeing how the girl was getting so bored by herself that she was starting to doubt herself.
This self-blaming Lu Huaijiao was not what he wanted to see.
He liked her coquettishness and affectation, and he liked her openly wiping her dirty hands all over his body... In short, as long as she was carefree and happy, he was happy.
Lu Huaijiao looked up, blinked in confusion, and then asked with a mixture of doubt and sincerity, "Do you really think that it doesn't matter if I'm rich and pretty but can't do anything else?"
"..."
Is he praising himself?
Although Gu Changzheng was a little uncomfortable, he still hummed in agreement.
"The Long March..."
From the kitchen doorway, came Gu Tiezhu's awkward cough: "Sister-in-law put too much firewood in the stove. There's nothing but smoke. I've already started the fire."
Just as Gu Changzheng was busy coaxing his little darling, Gu Tiezhu, the unexpected 'third party,' entered the kitchen and helped tidy up the messy space.
