Chapter 292 It's Chinese New Year

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were very puzzled.

Gu Changzheng, who was working nearby, listened to the conversation between the two most important women in his life, but he pretended not to hear it at all.

In short, I will not express any opinion.

As long as he doesn't express his opinion, they won't know what he's doing.

Yes, that's right.

Gu Changzheng was deceiving himself, thinking that Lu Huaijiao and the others were really unaware of the situation.

However, if Lu Huaijiao hadn't witnessed Liu Chun's reaction to Gu Changzheng that morning, like a mouse seeing a cat, she probably wouldn't have connected this matter with Gu Changzheng.

Unfortunately, I happened to see it in the morning.

Therefore, she was basically certain that Gu Changzheng played a significant role in Liu Chun's transformation.

However, she didn't care what Gu Changzheng had actually done; as long as the outcome was good, that was enough. She believed her husband wasn't the kind of person who didn't know his place.

Lu Huaijiao felt that she was a very generous and understanding wife in this respect.

She praised herself in her heart, and then started making tofu with He Meizhu.

Just as their soy milk was almost ready, Huang Tingxiu and He Yun arrived with buckets. They came to borrow a stone mill because they didn't have one at home and couldn't grind the soybeans.

"Do you grind it yourselves?"

Lu Huaijiao looked at the two of them curiously.

The two women smiled, and their husbands walked in from outside.

"Sorry to bother you, sister-in-law, aunt, fourth brother."

Gu Tiezhu and Gu Xiangdong walked in from outside, each carrying their own child, and greeted Lu Huaijiao and the others.

Lu Huaijiao nodded, turned around and went inside to warm herself by the fire.

"You guys go quickly, making tofu takes a long time," Lu Huaijiao reminded them.

Huang Tingxiu and He Yun both agreed and headed over there with the beans in their hands.

"Let's leave the child inside by the fire; it's cold outside."

Lu Huaijiao made the suggestion.

Gu Tiezhu and Gu Xiangdong didn't hesitate and left the child in Lu Huaijiao's kitchen. They also asked their wives to stay and warm themselves by the fire while they, the two men, went to grind soybeans.

The graphite side doesn't need that many people either.

Lu Huaijiao found the men's self-awareness very encouraging. Therefore, before Huang Tingxiu and the others could even speak, she invited them into the kitchen to chat and eat sunflower seeds.

The day before the Lunar New Year was spent stealing a moment of leisure amidst the busyness.

Thinking that tomorrow is the Lunar New Year, Lu Huaijiao and the others went to bed early that night, looking forward to setting off firecrackers early in the morning.

The three kids in the family were overjoyed when they found out they could set off firecrackers.

Nothing was said that night.

The next morning, while Lu Huaijiao was still in bed, Sanbao came to urge her to get up and set off firecrackers.

Gu Changzheng scooped the little ones out of the blankets, one in each hand.

"Come on, let's go find Grandpa with Dad. Don't bother Mom, she needs to sleep."

Without saying a word, Gu Changzheng took the children away.

Close the door, and give Lu Huaijiao a peaceful room.

However, she didn't stay in bed for too long. After the father and sons had gone out for a while, she slowly poked her head out of the warm quilt.

The person slowly sat up.

Put on your clothes and leave the room.

It's cold, but we have to keep going, right?

After Lu Huaijiao finished washing up, she came to the kitchen. Just then, Gu Changzheng was about to come out to call her for breakfast. She thought it was perfect timing.

Because the afternoon was filled with an incredibly lavish New Year's Eve dinner, I just ate whatever was convenient for breakfast in the morning.

After having a full breakfast, we started preparing the New Year's Eve dinner.

People slaughter chickens, ducks, and fish; things they wouldn't normally eat, they'll bring out to eat today.

This is how it is in the countryside during the Spring Festival. On this day, the emphasis is on eating well and dressing well.

The clothes and food were all good. The clothes were also the kind without a single patch.

The whole family, except for Lu Huaijiao who was looking after the three children, were busy preparing the New Year's Eve dinner for the afternoon.

He Meizhu packed the food into a bamboo basket and asked Gu Changzheng to take it to the ancestral graves to pay respects to his grandparents and the family's ancestors. They could then eat when they returned.

Seeing that she had almost finished with the household chores, Lu Huaijiao suggested that she go with Gu Changzheng.

When the three children saw that their parents were going out, they wanted to go with them.

However, the path on the hillside was quite slippery after the snowfall. It would be fine with one child, but with three, He Meizhu worried that Gu Changzheng wouldn't be able to manage.

So we simply stopped letting them go.

However, she still coaxed them gently, telling the three children to eat their food obediently, and that when they grew up and were as tall as their father, they would be able to go up the mountain.

The three children ran over and compared their height to their father's, only to find that they weren't even as tall as their father's legs. Feeling quite discouraged, they could only watch helplessly as their father took their mother out the door.

"Bye-bye, Mom."

"Bye-Bye."

Sanbao didn't forget to greet everyone.

Lu Huaijiao waved to them with a smile before turning around and leaving with Gu Changzheng to pay respects to their ancestors.

The Gu family's ancestral graves are all located in one place, a flat area on the back mountain of Dawan Village. There are hundreds of graves there, all belonging to the ancestors of each family.

On occasions like Chinese New Year, it's enough to simply pay respects to one's direct ancestors.

It's only during festivals like Qingming Festival that we clean up the graves of our very, very, very ancestors.

Although the outside world has been very strict in recent years, the Gu family is a large family in Dawan Village, and their descendants are very united. So, during the Qingming and Double Ninth Festivals, they would secretly go up the mountain to burn paper money and sweep tombs as usual, and Gu Jianhua would turn a blind eye to it.
