Separating the family property inevitably leads to arguments, and knowing Xu Honglian's nature, who knows what other unpleasant things she might say. Gu Changzheng didn't want Lu Huaijiao to hear, so he wanted her to go back to her room to rest first.
Lu Huaijiao shook her head repeatedly.
"I don't want to. I'll stay with Mom. If she's sad, I can comfort her."
She pulled her hand away from Gu Changzheng's large hand, walked over and took He Meizhu's arm, acting as if she were He Meizhu's close confidante.
It's truly both laughable and frustrating.
However, He Meizhu was indeed comforted by Lu Huaijiao's actions.
She looked at Lu Huaijiao with a relieved smile: "Jiaojiao, don't worry, Mom is fine."
"Mom, don't be angry. If you get sick from getting angry, I'll be the one who will worry about you."
Gu Changzheng was speechless.
How did his wife have the courage to say such a thing? Wasn't she the one who first had the idea of separating the family property? Now she's acting like everyone else wants to separate the family property, but she's the only one supporting the old lady not to.
Gu Changzheng couldn't understand it.
Fortunately, he didn't let Lu Huaijiao know what he was thinking, otherwise she would definitely have criticized him.
She wanted to separate from the family because she didn't want to live with Xu Honglian and the others. But she never said she was disrespectful to He Meizhu and Gu Jianhua!
Gu Changzheng has confused the division of the family property with filial piety.
Gu Jianhua's second and third grandfathers, along with other uncles, arrived quickly. He Meizhu coldly recounted the matter of dividing the family property. Before the two old men could speak, the other uncles thought Gu Jianhua was confused.
In Dawancun, the family has always lived together as long as the parents are alive. They are still here and can work for another 10 or 20 years. Why would they separate now?
"Brother, you're being foolish!"
"Yes, it's understandable for the family to have a little argument, but there's no reason for them to separate. Big brother, you can't do something that would get you spat on by the Gu family's patriarch!"
"Yeah, brother."
Gu Changzheng's uncles tried to persuade Gu Jianhua, his eldest cousin.
Gu Jianhua, however, had already made up his mind.
"Let's not talk about the division of the family property anymore. It's already decided and we won't change it."
"Hey, boss!"
"Big brother, you...sigh..."
"This family is broken up!"
These uncles took turns shaking their heads and sighing.
Lu Huaijiao wanted to refute their views several times, but Gu Changzheng and He Meizhu stopped her each time. She pouted slightly, unhappy.
Gu Changzheng found it somewhat amusing.
A young girl's thoughts are always clearly written on her face.
"Okay, don't be angry. I'll take you to the fields to catch eels later."
Now that it's raining, many eels will emerge from the fields, and experienced people can catch them easily. Eel meat is delicious; it's great for making soup or for cutting it into pieces and frying it.
Lu Huaijiao wrinkled her nose in disgust: "No way, it's dirty."
Gu Changzheng: ...
I've forgotten how incredibly fussy my little ancestor is.
Because Gu Jianhua insisted on dividing the family property, those who came to persuade him could do nothing but act as witnesses, witnessing the birth of the first family in Dawancun where the parents divided the property while they were still alive.
Including the kitchen and storage room, the Gu family owned four houses in total. The main house, facing the courtyard gate, was a large three-bay tile-roofed house. The middle room was the main hall, and to the left of the main hall were two rooms where Gu Jianhua and his wife lived. To the right were two more rooms where the eldest son of the Gu family and his family of four lived.
Then there was the east wing, which had a two-bay layout, with a suite inside each of the two rooms. The second and third sons' families lived on the left and right sides.
The house where Lu Huaijiao and the others lived was the west wing.
This house was built later when Gu Changzheng earned his own money.
It's a standalone house, but it's quite small. It's a two-room suite, but the adjacent room is very small; it can barely fit a bed.
Gu Changzheng didn't put a bed inside. Instead, he placed a row of shelves against the wall for storage. The door opened into their room, so the only way to access the storage room was through their room.
Outside their room, there was another small room. Coming in from the courtyard, you had to go to that room first before you could reach your bedroom.
Since Gu Changzheng built this house with his own money, and it wasn't very big and was located in a west-facing area, Xu Honglian and Li Cuiping had no objections to giving this room to Lu Huaijiao and the others.
Liu Chun wouldn't have any objections.
All that's left is the kitchen.
The kitchen is located at an angle between the main house and the east wing, a very good location. However, there's only one kitchen, so it's not suitable to allocate it to anyone.
He Meizhu immediately made a decision and demolished the kitchen.
"Mom, if you tear down the kitchen, where are we going to cook and eat?" Xu Honglian was the first to disagree.
He Meizhu glanced at Xu Honglian: "You were given two rooms, didn't you know to set aside one as a kitchen?"
"No, Mother, that's for sleeping!" Xu Honglian chuckled awkwardly. "Besides, Mother, Jin Dan and Bao Dan aren't young anymore. They'll need a house when they get married. Why don't you give us that kitchen?"
"You're dreaming!"
He Meizhu had no intention of giving Xu Honglian any more face.
"Your son getting married is your business as his mother, don't come and bother me. Like I said, now that you've separated the family, each of you should build your own kitchen on your own property. Whether you want to renovate the existing rooms or build a new one if you're so capable, that's your business."
"That kitchen is the house I gave to your father; no one else can have it."
He Meizhu's words were absolutely brilliant.
