Lu Hua fell heavily to the ground with a thud.
It felt as if his heart was being gripped tightly by a cold, large hand, and fear surged towards him like a tidal wave.
"Second son, you're so foolish." Old Master Lu sighed, looking up.
He glanced at Lu Hua, who was trembling all over, and Li Yuan, who looked terrified, and then went back to his room.
He took out a photo that had been flipped so many times that the edges were curled up. In the photo, seven young men in their prime were all wearing military uniforms, with their arms around each other, and behind them was the Tiananmen Gate Tower from the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China.
Back then, they were still close and loving brothers. Even though the fourth brother was a scoundrel, he was the one with the sweetest tongue and the most beloved among the brothers.
Grandpa Lu stroked the boy in the very center.
He leaned against the flagpole, a cigarette dangling from his lips. His eyes were narrow but gleamed with a cunning light, and his eyebrows were always subtly raised, as if he were looking down on everything around him.
Because of his unreliable attitude, he was often beaten by the old man.
The seven brothers, whose relationship was neither particularly good nor bad, eventually came to the point of killing each other.
Thinking of the current state of decline of the Lu family, Old Master Lu was filled with regret and tears streamed down his face.
"Sixth Brother, come out here." After leaving the Lu family, Lu Hua went to Lu Zhi's house.
Although Lu Zhi publicly stated that he had severed ties with the Lu family, the old man did not agree.
Lu Zhi was an eighth-grade fitter at the machinery factory, a key talent. The factory allocated him the highest-standard house, a three-bedroom, one-living-room house.
Lu Hua knocked loudly on the door, loud enough for even the most deaf person inside to hear.
"It sounds like your second brother." Lu Zhi's wife nudged her husband, signaling him to open the door.
Lu Zhi dawdled for a while before going out to open the door.
The moment the door opened, Lu Hua rushed in, grabbed Lu Zhi by the collar, slammed him against the wall, and said with a contorted expression, "Sixth Brother, tell me the truth, did those two kids die back then?"
Lu Zhi's expression was indifferent. "Dead."
"I don't believe it!" Lu Hua roared through his throat, "He's definitely not dead, right, Sixth Brother? Don't lie to Second Brother."
Lu Zhi stared at him for a while, then suddenly burst out laughing. "Second brother, have you forgotten? You and eldest brother strangled those two children with your own hands. They were stiff when I was disposing of their bodies."
"The child was so small, his face was bluish-purple, and he was strangled to death by his own uncles before he even opened his eyes."
“I always dream about that scene when I wake up in the middle of the night.”
The unhurried words stirred up memories that Lu Hua had deliberately forgotten.
He released Lu Zhi and slammed his fist on his head, "Forget it, forget it quickly..."
Lu Zhi looked at him with a mocking gaze, and even when Lu Hua's legs went weak and he knelt down in front of him, he did not bend down to help him up.
"Sixth Brother." Lu Hua looked up, his eyes wide like saucers, staring intently at him. "Dad said Fourth Brother isn't dead."
Lu Zhi's expression froze for a moment, then he smiled and said, "Second Brother, are you scared?"
Seeing Lu Hua's terrified expression, Lu Zhi squatted down, patted his shoulder, and said softly, "Second brother, don't be afraid. I've been waiting for this all these years. If fourth brother kills us, then we can atone for those two children's sins."
"Smack!"
Lu Hua slapped him across the face. "If you want to die, then go ahead and die. I don't want to die. Fourth Brother had better never come back to Beijing. Otherwise, I can kill his child, and I can kill him too."
"Sigh." Lu Zhi sighed, seemingly oblivious to the pain on his face. "Second brother, you still underestimated fourth brother's abilities."
"All six of us brothers combined are probably not as smart as our fourth brother alone."
"Twenty years ago, you found his weakness. Now that you've lost that weakness, how are you going to oppose him?"
Lu Zhi's lips curled into a sarcastic smile as he stood up. "Second Brother, please do as you please."
Lu Hua left the machinery factory in a daze and wandered aimlessly down the street.
"This is good. The color is fresh and vibrant, suitable for young girls. They can also wear it when their belly gets bigger."
"White gets dirty easily."
"As long as it looks good."
Lu Hua looked up in the direction of the sound and saw the shorter figure turning his head to talk to the person next to him.
Lu Hua was stunned when he saw her profile.
I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, all I could see was a white silhouette.
Lu Hua ran up almost instinctively, limping.
Sensing someone rapidly approaching from behind, Lin Xiaoxiao stopped and turned around.
"What are you looking at?" Tang Jie also stopped and turned around.
"It's alright, let's go, Aunt Tang." Lin Xiaoxiao didn't take it seriously when she saw that he was a strange middle-aged man.
Lin Xiaoxiao didn't recognize Lu Hua, but Tang Jie did. However, seeing that Lu Hua looked dazed, she didn't greet him.
Lu Hua watched them walk away, not following them. "No, it can't be..."
That woman surnamed Wen is incredibly beautiful; there are few people in the world who can compare to her.
That girl from earlier, who only resembled her by a third, was already astonishingly beautiful.
After walking a distance, Tang Jie told Lin Xiaoshuo about Lu Hua's identity.
After hearing this, Lin Xiaoxiao thought of Lu Hua's limping appearance and asked, "Is there something wrong with his leg?"
Tang Jie nodded, "It happened twenty years ago, so it's hard to say for sure now."
Upon hearing this, Lin Xiaoxiao understood.
Originally, Wanfen had arranged to go shopping at Friendship Store with Tang Jie and Xu Fen, but because Wanfen's family came, it turned out that she and Tang Jie were the ones shopping.
After finishing my shopping, I declined the invitation to have dinner at the Chu family's house and strolled home leisurely.
