Chapter 298 The two of them went to the secretariat to serve tea and water; they were like firecrackers, ready to explode at the slightest provocation.

Seeing that Qin Jinye had agreed and even drank the wine offered by Yao Lei, the Yao family breathed a sigh of relief.

Mr. Yao was extremely pleased. “I always knew Jinye was a grateful man, unlike those ungrateful wretches who turn their backs on their benefactors. My proudest achievement in this life is not becoming the factory director, but having such an excellent son-in-law as Jinye.”

"Come on, have a few more drinks with Dad."

Qin Jinye maintained a perfectly measured smile throughout. Even when the harsh words entered his mind, they didn't make him lose his composure in the slightest. Instead, he cheerfully replied, "You flatter me. No matter how outstanding I am, I'm still your son-in-law. That won't change."

The two drank a few glasses back and forth. When Qin Jinye couldn't see, Yao Lei's father gave Yao Huixian a wink.

Yao Huixian understood, picked up some food for Qin Jinye, and asked casually, "With so many departments in the government, Lao Qin, where do you plan to assign Xiao Lei?"

Qin Jinye didn't speak, his eyes were narrowed, seemingly drunk and somewhat dazed, yet a glimmer of clarity flashed inadvertently.

"Old Qin, Old Qin?"

"Huh?" Qin Jinye jumped, forcing himself to stay alert. "What did you say?"

As Yao Huixian poured him a drink, she said, "Regarding Xiaolei's job at the Industrial Bureau, remember to arrange it for him as soon as possible, don't forget."

Qin Jinye's tongue seemed to be tied in knots, and he spoke unclearly, "Industrial...Industrial Bureau?"

“Yes, we discussed it. The Industrial Bureau has a bright future and is a good fit for Xiao Lei.” Yao Huixian and her brother and sister-in-law both smiled.

"The Industry Bureau is great! The country focuses on developing heavy industry, so the pay is good, and the social status is high..."

The more the Yao family discussed it, the more feasible it seemed. Before coming here, they had even discussed joining the Political Department, where there was little work and good pay, making it the perfect fit for the current political environment.

But the Industrial Bureau had far more lucrative opportunities than the Political Department.

At first glance, the Industry Bureau is clearly the better choice.

Just as the Yao family was celebrating, Qin Jinye suddenly looked up, puzzled, and asked, "Who wants to join the Industry Bureau?"

Everyone was stunned for a moment, and the Yao family members exchanged glances. "Xiao, Xiao Lei."

"Xiao Lei," Qin Jinye said, his face full of drunkenness, "wasn't Xiao Lei supposed to be learning from me?"

"Could I have misheard?"

After speaking, he looked at everyone with a puzzled expression.

Yao Huixian's brother and sister-in-law immediately became anxious and were eager to stand up and question Qin Jinye about his intentions.

Before they could make any move, Yao's father's single glance was enough to intimidate them.

Then, Yao's father gave them a reassuring look and looked at Qin Jinye, "Xiao Lei is young and should study hard. Jinye, which department do you plan to assign him to?"

Without the slightest hesitation, Qin Jinye replied decisively, "Secretariat."

Since you're going to learn from him, then become his secretary.

"No way." Yao Huixian put down her chopsticks excitedly. "Xiao Lei is not fit to do chores like serving tea and water."

"No matter what, you have to arrange a proper job for me."

Yao's father didn't speak; he shared the same thought as his daughter.

Although his grandson isn't very capable, he is still the only male heir of the Yao family in the next generation. To make him someone else's secretary is an insult to him, isn't it?

Qin Jinye slurred his words, speaking haltingly, "Being the mayor's secretary isn't something just anyone can do... there's a lot of work involved, so Xiao Lei will definitely learn... learn a lot."

After saying that, he downed the wine in his glass in one gulp, and the next second, he collapsed drunk on the table with a 'thud'.

The atmosphere suddenly became heavy. Yao Huixian's brother and sister-in-law looked very unhappy, and Yao's father's expression was indifferent, making it impossible to guess his true thoughts.

Young Yao Lei, oblivious to the awkward atmosphere, glanced at his parents and then at his aunt. "Being my uncle's secretary isn't bad. He comes into contact with so many important people every day, it'll definitely benefit me."

He wouldn't be used to going to other departments where he was unfamiliar with the place and people, so it was better for him to stay with his uncle, at least no one would dare to give him a hard time.

Being a secretary isn't that stressful; you just do whatever your uncle tells you to do, without having to rack your brains to figure things out.

Anyway, Yao Lei was quite satisfied.

"If you think it's good, then follow your uncle closely." At this point, Yao's father couldn't say anything more.

Qin Jinye is no longer the illegitimate son who had nothing and was disliked by Old Master Qin more than 20 years ago.

Now that he is the mayor of Beijing, his father-in-law can only rely on past favors and connections to ask him for favors. It's impossible to pressure him.

If Qin Jinye hadn't kept pushing Yao Lei's matter around and refusing to give a definite answer, they wouldn't have come to their door today, nor would they have spoken so bluntly.

"I will, Grandpa," Yao Lei readily agreed.

Mr. Yao sighed, "Alright, we'll leave now that we've finished eating."

Yao Huixian reluctantly saw her family off, but when she returned, she was furious to see Qin Jinye still fast asleep on the table.

Ignoring him, she tidied up the table and went upstairs to rest, leaving Qin Jinye sprawled on the table.

Little did she know that just two minutes after she went upstairs, Qin Jinye rubbed his temples and straightened up, his eyes clear, showing no sign of drunkenness whatsoever.

"snort."

A cold snort rang out in the living room, filled with dissatisfaction and disdain.

Qin Jinye poured himself a glass of hot water, sat on the sofa, his eyes were dull, and it was hard to tell what he was thinking.

The Yao family... their appetite is growing bigger and bigger.

After taking a one-and-a-half-hour nap, Yao Huixian came downstairs, only to find that Qin Jinye was no longer home.
