Seeing Lu Ze's expression, everyone understood.
The four words that came to everyone's mind were self-deception.
She killed her own child, and in order to seek inner peace, she deliberately brainwashed herself, placing Wen Mo in the position of the murderer.
What about Wang Jingxiang?
Lu Ze blamed Wang Jingxiang for leaving the child at home and abusing him for twenty years.
Now that the truth has come out, Wang Jingxiang never imagined that it wasn't her who killed her two children, but rather the hypocritical and treacherous Lu Ze.
"Ah..." A shrill scream escaped Wang Jingxiang's throat.
For the first time, her frail body unleashed a powerful energy, pushing away the person supporting her and rushing towards Lu Ze without regard for anything else. Her steps were unsteady yet carried a resolute speed, each step as if she had used up all her strength.
Through the gaps in her disheveled, dry hair, people could see her sunken eye sockets and her eyeballs that looked like they were about to bulge out of their sockets.
His eyes were filled with twisted hatred, mixed with a hint of relief.
"Get out, get out, get out..."
She tackled Lu Ze to the ground and tried her best to strangle him, but Lu Ze easily pushed her away. She persevered and got up, biting his hand with a vicious bite as if she wanted to tear a piece of flesh off him alive.
"Quickly pull her away." No matter how much of a scoundrel Lu Ze is, he is still a son of the Lu family, and Old Master Lu will naturally not watch him get killed.
He was pale and weak as he spoke to the guard.
The guards, following his orders, made a move to pull Wang Jingxiang away, but Wang Jingxiang held on tightly and, in the struggle, actually bit off a piece of flesh.
Amidst the horrified or unbearable gazes of the crowd, she laughed three times and chewed the meat down.
His mouth was full of blood, which sent chills down everyone's spine.
The moment Wen Mo bit off Lu Ze's flesh, he reached out and covered Wen Shiyu and Lin Xiaoxiao's eyes. Such a bloody scene would probably give them nightmares for two days.
"Aaaaah, you bitch, you bitch..." The intense pain caused Lu Ze to writhe on the ground, clutching his hand and cursing angrily.
Wang Jingxiang was captured, and she kept letting out wild roars from her throat.
Her bloodshot eyes were fixed on Lu Ze, as if she wanted to tear him apart.
"Absurd, utterly absurd." Old Master Lu slammed his hand on the table, his expression a mixture of pain and anger. He glanced at Wen Mo with disgust. "Fourth son, are you satisfied now?"
Wen Mo looked up, his expression mischievous. "Not yet."
"You..." Old Master Lu pointed at him with one finger and covered his chest with the other, looking furious.
Lu Yunzhang immediately went up and patted his back to calm him down.
Lu Ze, who was groaning in pain on the ground, looked up fiercely after the intense pain subsided a bit. "Fourth brother, no matter how you slander me, I still say the same thing: I didn't do it."
"You convict me based on nothing but your words and without any evidence? Who do you think you are?"
Lu Ze stopped trying to maintain any semblance of harmony.
Unpleasant words kept coming out.
Hearing this, Lin Xiaoxiao clenched her fists.
Wen Mo seemed to sense her emotions, patted her daughter's shoulder reassuringly, and then looked at Lu Ze, "Who said I didn't have any evidence?"
"You don't actually think your arson was clever, do you? I've found you an eyewitness. Want to hear what she has to say?"
Lu Ze had a bad feeling, but he still held onto a sliver of hope.
He said firmly, "You think you can find someone to slander me? You've got a bad idea."
Wen Mo didn't waste any more words. The next second, the bodyguard brought an old woman in from outside.
She looked to be about the same age as Grandpa Lu. Although her clothes weren't fancy, they were definitely better than most people's. There weren't many signs of hard work on her hands and face, so she must have been doing quite well these past few years.
"Shufen?" Old Master Lu sat up straight in surprise.
Wang Shufen raised her head, somewhat afraid to look into Old Master Lu's eyes, and timidly called out, "Old Master Lu."
"Didn't you find your daughter and bring her back to your hometown?"
Judging from Old Master Lu's tone, he must have a close relationship with Wang Shufen.
Wen Mo's slow, deliberate voice rang out, "She can't have children, so where would she get a daughter? Only you, old man, would believe her nonsense."
After saying that, ignoring the old man's ugly expression, she looked at Wang Shufen with a rather intimidating gaze, "Tell me, what did you see and do during that fire twenty years ago?"
Lu Ze hurriedly spoke up, "Fourth brother, who knows if she was deliberately brought back by you to frame me? I don't believe her."
Wen Mo glanced at him indifferently, "I advise you to listen to her finish before you speak."
At Wen Mo's prompting, Wang Shufen stammered, "I...I saw with my own eyes the Third Young Master pouring oil on the doors of the Eldest and Second Young Masters. The oil...the oil was delivered to him by that thug in the alley the night before. I didn't know what he was going to do with it, so I didn't tell Lao Lu. Who knew that a fire would break out the next day..."
In the immediate aftermath of the fire, Wang Shufen, taking advantage of Lu Ze's absence, secretly sneaked into the rooms of Wen Shiyu and several other daughters-in-law of the Lu family, taking all the cash and hidden jewelry.
Having made a fortune, she told Old Man Lu that she had found her daughter and wanted to go back to her hometown.
Grandpa Lu was still grieving the loss at the time, so he agreed without much thought.
The mother of Wen Mo and his brothers passed away not long after giving birth to the seventh brother, Lu Xian. Wang Shufen was ostensibly taking care of Old Master Lu, since he was already sixty years old at the time. In reality, Wang Shufen was Old Master Lu's companion in his old age.
The Lu brothers weren't exactly kind to her, but they didn't deliberately target her either.
She had a very low profile in the Lu family; she was honest and straightforward, without many ulterior motives.
To thank Wang Shufen for her companionship over the years, Grandpa Lu gave her a sum of money before letting her leave.
Wang Shufen witnessed Lu Ze's ruthlessness. She was timid, and since she had enough money to live on in her old age, she figured staying with the Lu family might mean she would die at any time.
She dared not tell Grandpa Lu what she had seen, for fear that Lu Ze would retaliate against her.
Moreover, the seven Lu brothers have always treated her like she doesn't exist, which isn't exactly a good thing, and she has no obligation to risk her life to remind them.
When Wen Mo investigated what happened back then, he sent someone to bring her to the capital.
The day after the fire, I hurriedly said goodbye to Grandpa Lu. It would be really inexcusable if I didn't know something.
Over the past twenty years, Wang Shufen has long since squandered all the money she had back then. Her husband, whom she found in the countryside, has also become impatient with her since he can't find anything in her pocket.
But before her husband could even scold or beat her, Wenmo's men came knocking on their door.
