Chapter 1347 Death Under the Peony Blossom

Immediately, Li Huai and I looked at each other in bewilderment.

I gave Li Huai a wink, and he took the key and opened the roller shutter. I helped the man up and patted him on the back.

"A man's knees are worth gold. What's the matter? Let's go in and talk."

The man's face was pale, and I was supporting his body as he trembled. He didn't look like a middle-aged man at all, but rather like an old man on his deathbed.

Upon entering the funeral home, Li Huai and I were both quite curious, and even Luo Tianhe showed some interest.

The man sat down, panting heavily.

"I, I am a flower cart driver."

"A flower cart? You're selling flowers?"

I raised an eyebrow in confusion.

The man smiled somewhat awkwardly, then explained:

"It wasn't one of those floats. I was driving a big truck, but it wasn't carrying goods; it was carrying men and women who were having sex."

"ah?"

Luo Tianhe and I were stunned, our faces filled with question marks.

"No, what are they after if they do it in the car? Are they looking for a thrill?"

Li Huai scratched his head and asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Oh, you just don't understand. It's obviously an affair. It should be considered a gray industry, since you don't need to register it, as long as you pay."

Luo Tianhe, standing to the side, immediately understood. He was well-informed and knew exactly what tricks the rich played.

I glanced at him, and Luo Tianhe was truly intrigued by this middle-aged man; his previous dejected look vanished completely.

After hearing Luo Tianhe's words, the middle-aged man nodded and then continued:

"That's right, and there are no surveillance cameras there, so there's no need to worry about being secretly filmed. Most importantly, the police won't come to check the rooms, so our business is doing quite well."

"Alright, alright, I'm not here to hear your get-rich-quick schemes. What's wrong? You look pale. If no one intervenes, you probably won't live more than a few days."

I'm not exaggerating; this guy has far less yang energy than I do, even though I see ghosts all the time.

A dark aura enveloped his forehead; the term "black forehead" perfectly describes his appearance, as it was so dark it was almost shiny.

Hearing this, the middle-aged man was so frightened that his mouth trembled. After taking a deep breath, he continued his story:

“I’ve been doing this for five years and I’ve never made a mistake before. Every time I pick up a customer, I drive to the suburbs. There are fewer surveillance cameras in the suburbs and more large trucks, so almost no one will notice me.”

"But that time I received a generous payment. The employer was a fat man with a big belly, who looked very rich."

"And his female companion was absolutely gorgeous. She was wearing a dress and stockings, and her skin was fair and smooth. I'm not exaggerating when I say she was even more beautiful than the stars on TV."

"At the time, I thought it was great to be rich. I thought that once I saved enough money, I would find someone like that and have a good time."

I glanced at him. Anyone could tell he had kidney deficiency. He wasn't just having a good time; he'd been having this for days.

"Something's about to go wrong," Luo Tianhe said, lighting a cigarette and slowly exhaling a puff of white smoke.

"That's right. My price is 500 per hour, but that customer just threw 2,000 at me. At the time, I thought he was just showing off. With that fat guy's appearance, I don't think he could last 10 minutes."

“In our line of work, many customers exaggerate and often pay for several extra hours, but I don’t take it seriously.”

"Although my carriage is very well soundproofed, I can still hear some noises. Generally, the guests finish in about ten minutes. The rest of the time, they either come out and finish, or they play on their phones inside and pretend to be there so as not to be embarrassed."

As the middle-aged man spoke, he gave a knowing look.

He then took a sip of the tea on the table to moisten his lips and continued:

"But what's strange is that the fat guy actually lasted for more than three hours. At the time, I thought I was just underestimating him."

Luo Tianhe and I exchanged a glance; this story was a bit eerie.

"At the time, I thought this fat man was really unreliable, but suddenly, the sound stopped."

"I didn't think much of it, assuming he was finally exhausted, but a little while later, I received a text message on my phone from the employer."

"It was a voice message, but it was clearly from that man's account, sent by that woman. I could tell the voice sounded a bit panicked, but I didn't think much of it at the time."

As he said this, the man's voice trembled slightly, as if he were afraid of something.

Seeing that his body was trembling like he had Parkinson's, I took out a calming talisman, burned it to ashes, mixed it with tea, and gave it to him to drink.

After drinking the tea, he felt a little better and told us the rest of the story.

"I drove to a remote place, and as soon as I opened the car door, I felt a soft body rush into my arms."

“I quickly pushed him away, after all, the employer was still inside. If he saw it, he might deduct money from my pay. And even if he deducts money from my pay, the most important thing in our line of work is reputation. If he adds fuel to the fire with others, I won’t be able to continue working.”

I couldn't help but smack my lips and say, "You've got some professional ethics, kid." With such a beautiful woman in my arms, my first thought was that my reputation couldn't be damaged.

The man gave a wry smile. "We're all out here to make money. Who would really give up their job for a woman?"

"What happened next? I don't think you've really upheld your professional ethics."

Seeing the man's guilty look, Li Huai spoke with certainty.

“Listen to me, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t push him away, but the man in the carriage didn’t seem to react at all. We realized something was wrong.”

"The woman kept throwing herself at me while crying. I got a little impatient and asked her what was wrong."

"Her voice was trembling, and she sounded terrified. She pointed inside the carriage and told me that the man was dead."

“I was terrified. Someone died on the float. If word got out, I wouldn’t be able to do any business at all! And this could even lead to criminal charges.”

"Sure enough, when I went into the carriage, I saw that the man was dead, but what puzzled me was that he had a satisfied smile on his face when he died."

Li Huai, who was standing to the side, couldn't help but chime in:

"To die beneath a peony blossom, even as a ghost, is still a romantic endeavor?"

Upon hearing this, I glared at him in annoyance. The middle-aged man was almost in tears, yet Li Huai was still in the mood to joke around.

I feel that if Li Huai really went into the service industry, with his low emotional intelligence, he'd be complained about and fired in no time.
