"Exchange fates?"
Old Knife raised a question.
These unfamiliar terms were still a bit difficult for Lao Dao to understand.
I gave a wry smile. At first, I thought it was some kind of ghost or monster causing trouble.
Only now do I realize that this wasn't a ghost; it was all man-made.
As the saying goes, people are more terrifying than ghosts.
Only now do I understand what my master craftsman told me back then.
The people you need to be wary of are living people.
"He is Xu Feng, but Xu Feng forcibly took away other people's life force through some kind of evil magic, and that's how he turned into this."
Looking at Xu Feng's ferocious face, I didn't know what to say.
After a long explanation, Lao Dao finally understood: "Brother Chen, what you mean is that Xu Feng's soul and spirit were sealed away, so he should have died long ago."
But he used evil magic to exchange fates with that person, forcibly stealing their lifespan, and that's how he ended up like this?
"Yes, that should be it. Xu Feng's actions allowed him to survive by force, but they were not tolerated by the Heavenly Dao."
Those he saved would naturally suffer the consequences.
I explained why Xu Qiang became like this: it was because Xu Feng violated the laws of Heaven.
The fat woman also said that if we look for Xu Feng, we're doomed.
That's probably how it is.
"So, Lao Dao, it's a good thing you didn't let Xu Feng treat your illness. If Xu Feng had really cured your illness..."
You will also suffer the backlash from Heaven's will, just like Xu Qiang.
I looked at Lao Dao and marveled at his luck.
Old Dao curled his lip and said, "If it were in the beginning, I would have really begged him, but this old guy didn't even see through your owl god identity."
I knew it, this kid wasn't as awesome as he seemed.
"Xu Feng, is there anything else you'd like to say?"
My gaze returned to Xu Feng, and I knew that Xu Feng had regained consciousness.
Xu Feng's eyes were blank; it seemed he could no longer see.
He walked back to his original seat, plopped down, and nodded slightly: "Not bad, you're right, young man. I did use some methods to forcibly exchange fates."
"However, I also have my own unavoidable difficulties."
Everyone has their own hardships, but going against the natural order is intolerable.
I have no interest in listening to Xu Feng's empty and pretentious stories.
I just want to know the clues I need.
"Why are all the people in Xujia Village dead, and only you are alive? I want the answer! Don't try any tricks."
I aimed my Thunder Strike Sword at Xu Feng. Although Xu Feng was somewhat skilled, I was inexplicably confident that I could defeat him.
“I am no match for someone who has gained the approval of the eagle owl, but I can’t remember anything right now.”
Xu Feng kept his eyes closed, but his tone remained calm.
I stared at Xu Feng's face for a long time, and I felt that Xu Feng didn't seem to be lying.
I thought to myself, "The person who made this move was truly meticulous."
Perhaps that person foresaw that one day someone would come looking for Xu Feng to find out the truth, which is why they used such a vicious spell.
"Young man, take this scroll upstairs. There should be something on it that you can use..."
"As for why I am like this, you will soon find out."
Xu Feng pointed at the painting, then his head lolled to the side, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, and then he stopped breathing.
Old Dao rushed forward and placed his fingers near Xu Feng's nostrils.
"Brother Chen, is he dead?"
A faint gray aura appeared on Xu Feng's forehead.
Black represents death, while this gray represents an obsession.
"To be treated like that and still have to find a way to use evil magic to survive, it seems there really is something he can't let go of."
I murmured.
Originally, I didn't care at all about the reason why Xu Feng became like this; I just wanted to know the result I wanted.
But what just happened has also piqued my curiosity.
I straightened Xu Feng's body and recited a mantra for his rebirth.
Although it's not very useful, it's at least a way for me to show my respect for him.
After doing all that, I picked up the scroll and took Old Dao upstairs.
"Brother Chen, have you noticed something's wrong? Just now, his son said that Xu Feng was treating patients upstairs."
Why is only Xu Feng here? Where are the other guests?
Old Dao, who was following behind me, expressed his doubts.
I actually admire that.
"Old Dao, you've made great progress. It seems you've learned to use your brain to think now!"
I gave him a compliment.
It's not that I'm being sarcastic about Lao Dao, but rather that Lao Dao never used his brain when considering problems.
Now at least some clues have been discovered.
I noticed the problem when Xu Feng came down.
"Xu Fenggang wasn't seeing a doctor, but rather performing some kind of ceremony."
As soon as I finished speaking, we arrived at the room on the second floor, and Lao Dao and I pushed open the door.
The rooms on the second floor are laid out almost exactly the same as those in the lobby.
There was also a painting hanging on the wall of the room.
The two paintings are symmetrical to the one in my hand. They seem to have originally been one painting, but were broken into two pieces.
"The layout of the two floors is exactly the same. This must have been intentional. Old Dao, be careful, don't die here."
I gripped the lightning sword tightly, reminding Old Knife.
Old Dao had beads of sweat the size of soybeans on his forehead. If I hadn't been there, he probably would have run away long ago.
"Brother Chen, why does it feel so chilly in here? Could it be haunted?"
Old Dao backed out.
"Shall we not go in? We can find out about Fox Village later."
Old Dao grabbed me, and at that moment, a genuine emotion was revealed.
"Old Dao, has something come to mind?"
I looked into Lao Dao's eyes and asked.
Old Knife's behavior was really too strange.
"No, okay, I'll go in with Brother Chen!"
Old Dao quickly shook his head. After saying that, he unusually went inside first.
The room suddenly went dark as soon as I stepped inside.
The doors and windows suddenly closed, plunging the entire room into a semi-dark state.
My body seems to be unable to move.
This is a formation, it seems to have been made specifically for me.
Both the lightning sword and the eagle owl tattoo seem to have lost their connection with me.
My heart sank instantly.
"Old Dao, Old Dao? Are you alright?"
I shouted at Old Knife.
Old Dao turned to look at me; his body was still able to move.
It looks like this formation is specifically designed to target me.
I've seen this kind of thing in a book; it requires very strict conditions to accomplish this technique.
Xu Feng is already dead. What reason would he have to leave this behind before his death?
I don't understand.
"Don't worry, Brother Chen, I'm fine, I can still move."
Old Dao gave me a smile, a smile of sincerity.
A bad feeling welled up inside me.
