Chapter 8 Old Liu is Dead

The groom mounts his horse to greet his bride!

Who is the groom?

Me, or Su Mingyang?

In an instant, everything that I hadn't understood before suddenly became clear.

Why did the family ask me to put on red makeup for the corpse and deliberately dress her up as a bride?

Why would a professional mortician defy common sense by placing a young female corpse in a black coffin?

Because they planned to have the female corpse married off today.

We were wondering why the host was so generous; others give only a few dollars as a "lucky money" gift, but he gave 16,000!

Now I understand.

This isn't a 'benefit,' it's money to save our lives!

Outside the door, a series of loud banging sounds continued, mixed with the sound of fingernails scratching at the door.

"Sizzle..."

"Sizzle..."

Each scratch felt like a sharp, painful scratch on one's heart.

Su Mingyang stared wide-eyed at the rickety door, his hand holding the paper money trembling slightly uncontrollably.

Perhaps out of sheer fear, he plunged his hand into the brazier.

Instantly, the smell of burning flesh filled the air, and he screamed in pain.

Outside the door, the matchmaker's shrill voice rang out again and again: "The auspicious hour has arrived, the groom mounts his horse to welcome his bride..."

My eyes darted around quickly.

Suddenly, I saw an exhaust vent on the wall to my right rear, about three meters above the ground.

The ventilation opening is small, only about half a meter in length and width, just big enough for one person to squeeze through.

The iron gate's hinges had begun to loosen under the violent impact, and it was only a matter of time before the gate was forced open.

That ventilation vent is now our only hope of escape.

I grabbed Su Mingyang, who was wandering around like a headless fly, and pointed to the ventilation vent.

“Old Su, you have a good jumping ability. I’ll step on you first and then pull you up from above.”

Su Mingyang glanced at the narrow exhaust vent, then looked at his own robust physique with a troubled expression.

"With my physique, if I crawled out of there, I'd probably dislocate my shoulder, wouldn't I?"

I said, "Why don't you become the groom for that female corpse?"

Su Mingyang shivered violently and ran to the ventilation vent, squatting down: "Old Chen, hurry up."

I stepped on Su Mingyang's shoulders and climbed towards the window, which could only fit one person at a time, using both my hands and feet.

When I finally managed to climb to the window, I subconsciously looked down.

The matchmaker was standing right below me, staring intently at me.

The moment their eyes met, she suddenly grinned.

The corners of his mouth slowly began to turn upwards, and his grin widened until it almost stretched to his ears.

The toothless mouth was a dark, gaping hole, emitting a low, gurgling sound.

This is the first time I've felt grateful that I don't have a [Earth Soul] and therefore don't feel afraid.

If Su Mingyang had climbed up and seen this scene, I reckon there would have been one more person in the wedding procession.

Seeing me get off his back, Su Mingyang asked in confusion, "Even you can't get out?"

I said no, it was the matchmaker guarding outside, her eyes wide open.

If I hadn't been supporting him, Su Mingyang would have really knelt down.

"Thank you so much, can't you just lie to me?"

Then, for some unknown reason, he frantically pulled out his phone and called the police.

But there was not a single bar of signal.

After trying several times, Su Mingyang put down his phone, feeling somewhat like crying.

"I'm really going to die this time. I used to joke that if I ever encountered a beautiful female ghost, I'd be grateful for nature's reward. Now I really have to thank nature!"

I told him not to panic, and that I had one last trick up my sleeve. If that didn't work either, then we'd just have to accept our fate.

I'm not afraid of death, but I don't want to die.

I have never experienced love, nor joy, anger, sorrow, or happiness. I want to find my [earth soul] and become a normal person.

I told Su Mingyang to continue burning paper money behind the door, then I turned off the light, lit a candle, and dripped the wax onto the door crack.

In folk tradition, wax symbolizes confinement, like putting a shackle on the area to prevent evil spirits from invading.

Then, a stack of paper money was tied together with red thread and hung above the door.

Like a simple wind chime, the combination of red thread and ghost money can serve as a warning and a deterrent if anything unclean gets in.

Legend has it that the red thread is the boundary between Yin and Yang, and evil spirits will be bound by it once they touch it.

"By the way, are you a virgin?"

I looked at Su Mingyang and explained that the effect would be better if it were made with the help of a child's urine.

Su Mingyang was startled: "Does it still count today?"

I didn't say anything, but stood on tiptoe to tie the stack of paper money.

I am a virgin, but I lack the [Earth Soul], and my yang energy is insufficient, so I am not a normal 'person'. Forget about urinating, even taking a dump is useless.

I've done everything I can. As for whether it will work or not, I can only leave it to fate.

The moment the paper money was hung up, the chaotic commotion outside vanished as if it had never happened.

Su Mingyang's eyes lit up with joy, and he lowered his voice, asking impatiently, "Old Chen, have those things already left?"

I made a 'shh' gesture to him, signaling him to be quiet and hurry up and burn the paper money.

Although I sealed the gap in the door of the storage room with wax, there was still a crack.

Through the narrow gap, several pairs of red cloth shoes came into view.

They stood silently outside the door, their red cloth shoes like dried blood, exuding an aura of death.

Although I couldn't see outside through the door, I could guess that several pale-faced people were standing behind it, staring at us with their empty and cold eyes.
