"ah!"
Su Meng covered her eyes tightly with both hands, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Even Liu Junming, who was a seasoned hiker and well-traveled, was quite frightened at this moment, his eyes fixed on the newly dug pit.
Not to mention the others, who were all terrified and turned ashen-faced.
"Someone's dead...someone's dead! Quick...call the police!"
Attorney Zhou frantically pulled his phone out of his pocket to call the police.
"Don't call the police!"
I stopped Attorney Zhou, bent down, and took the head out of the pit.
Under the sunlight, the human head looked incredibly terrifying.
His skin was an eerie grayish-white, his hair was disheveled and plastered to his face, his eyes were wide open and vacant, and his lips were slightly parted.
However, the surface of this head is too smooth, lacking the texture of real skin; apart from the outer layer of skin, it seems to be made of wood.
"Fake?"
The long-haired man was the first to react, cursing loudly, "Who's so inconsiderate as to bury a fake human head here to scare people!"
When the others heard it was a lie, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
Even though they knew it was fake, no one was willing to get close.
I ignored them and told Jin Ye about digging up the fake head.
"It's a corrupted spirit puppet."
Master Jin explained that this evil object uses the lingering spirits of prematurely deceased children or those who died violently as a catalyst, along with various filth and evil curses, to seal them within a specially made wooden puppet.
The bodies of puppets are often made from ebony wood that has grown for many years in ancient tombs. After being soaked in the stench of corpses and yin energy for a long time, the wood itself carries an ominous and corrupting aura.
Its function is to serve as a container for evil spirits, absorbing wandering vengeful spirits in places where yin energy gathers, thereby enhancing its own evil power.
After a pause, Master Jin continued, "If I'm not mistaken, the things buried in the Kan and Dui positions should be the Blood Jade Skull and the Sister's Drum."
I don't know about the Blood Jade Skull, but I do know about the Sister Drum.
Legend has it that the girl's tongue was cut off while she was still alive, and then during the sacrifice, a hole was made in her head and mercury was poured in to separate her skin from her flesh. The skin was then used to make a drum.
It is said that the sound of a drum made of human skin can reach all the way to hell.
"Severing wealth and burying the four evils, this is the [Evil Spirit Invasion Array] in the [Seven Deadly Arrays]. Its purpose is to summon evil spirits from all directions to invade the human body, control people's thoughts and actions, and turn people into their puppets. No wonder so many things happened in Rabbit Ear Village. I should have thought of this long ago."
Jin Ye spoke quickly, "We were all wrong before. Bai Su's original intention was not to have you investigate the cause of her death, but to lure you to find her body. Her body was suppressed by the [Evil Spirit Invasion Array] and could not be reincarnated. Once she is reincarnated, she will no longer haunt you."
Looking for a body?
I was completely bewildered: "Bai Su's body was burned to ashes long ago, where am I supposed to find the body?!"
Jin Ye quickly said, "The corpse you saw was fake. Someone deliberately showed it to you. I only realized it when I saw this [Evil Spirit Invasion Array]. Bai Su's corpse must still be here."
I hurriedly asked, "What should I do now?"
"Break the formation first!"
"Break the formation?"
"The [Evil Spirit Invasion Array] is insidious, but it is not without its flaws..."
Just as Master Jin was about to teach me how to break the formation over the phone, a clear bell sound suddenly rang in my ears.
"I dug up a bell, it looks like it's bronze!"
When I turned around, I saw the long-haired man holding a bronze bell and showing it off excitedly.
I quickly told Grandpa Jin that they had dug up another bell.
"A bell?"
Jin Ye's voice was full of doubt as he murmured, "That's not right, why are there bells?"
Then, he quickly asked, "From which direction was it dug out?"
I quickly glanced at where the long-haired man was and said, "Southwest, Kun position."
"What does that bell look like?" Jin asked.
I stared at the bell and described it as best I could.
"It's not big, it's bronze, about half the size of a palm, and the overall shape is flat and round. There seem to be some runes and pictures engraved on it, like some little ghosts lying down. The top of the bell is a slightly rough ring." Jin Ye's voice suddenly rose: "Get rid of it quickly, that's a Yin Sha copper bell! Once it's rung, its sound can seduce people's souls, cause hallucinations, and make them lose their minds. Quickly bury it in the ground."
My heart skipped a beat, and I yelled at the long-haired man, "Novelist, throw that bell away right now!"
The long-haired man, however, acted as if protecting his lifeline, quickly hiding the bell behind his back and looking at me warily.
"What do you want? I dug this up myself, why should I throw it away? Are you trying to steal it?"
I took a deep breath and patiently explained, "This bell is no ordinary thing; it's a Yin Sha copper bell. Once it's rung, it will steal people's souls and put everyone in danger."
"Bewitching souls?"
Gao Qian sneered and said sarcastically, "Oh, you're really good at making things up. You see someone unearthed a treasure, and you're trying to scare them so you can keep it all for yourself, huh?"
Luo Tianhe also thought I was jealous, and patted my shoulder hard: "Brother, since they dug it up first, it belongs to them. We have to follow the rules."
Just as I was about to retort, Su Meng suddenly exclaimed, "Why is it foggy?"
When I looked up, I saw that the once clear mountain forest was instantly shrouded in a white mist.
A putrid smell permeated the air, like the stench of rotting corpses mixed with the dampness of earth.
At the same time, a burst of static came through the phone.
Jin's voice became intermittent, urging us to leave.
