"Grandma, can Duoduo... come back?" I asked expectantly, touching the grass slingshot necklace that belonged to Duoduo hanging around my neck.
Grandma Sun just smiled and didn't answer. Instead, she handed me a black paper figure.
"Take this to your friend and he'll feel better after taking it."
I looked down at the words above.
The character written on the head of the black paper figure is not "[fate]", but "[life]".
I put the paper figure away and asked the question that had been nagging at me.
"Grandma Sun, why are you helping me? Do you... know my grandfather?"
I've never understood why she would risk her life to help me when we didn't even know each other.
Who is your grandfather?
"Chen Bazhong!"
Grandma Sun shook her head: "I don't recognize him!"
I'm even more confused. I don't recognize him?
"Could it be... Master Jin?" I asked tentatively.
Grandma Sun smiled and shook her head: "You don't need to guess anymore. I'm not doing this for anyone's sake. Maybe when your [Earth Soul] truly grows out, you'll understand everything. I just hope you won't blame me then!"
I said, how could I possibly blame you?
Grandma Sun laughed, but it was a bitter laugh that left me completely bewildered.
"My child, here's one last piece of advice: those who want to harm you aren't necessarily ghosts!"
The one who harmed me might not be a ghost?
"people?"
Grandma Sun didn't answer, but waved her hand at me and said, "Go back, go back."
I didn't ask any more questions.
Just like she said, when my [Earth Soul] fully grows out, everything will be revealed.
However, judging from her tone, it seems she doesn't intend to return to the village.
I asked, "Grandma Sun, aren't you going home?"
Grandma Sun shook her head, her hand trembling as she stroked the blank tombstone in the far corner, and whispered, "My home is right here!"
Just as I was about to speak, Grandma Sun smiled and waved her hand.
"Go back, pull yourself together, don't let so many people down."
I grunted in agreement, looked at the headless wooden figure in my hand dressed in a traditional Chinese wedding dress, let out a long sigh, and turned to leave.
Behind them, Grandma Sun's figure gradually faded away and eventually disappeared into the world.
Some things have ended, but some things are just beginning!
