Ji Yunfei seemed to be driven even more mad by the chaos. She casually tossed the dead woman's body aside.
His gaze suddenly locked onto an old woman.
The old woman was so frightened that her legs went weak. She wanted to run but couldn't move her feet. All she could do was desperately shout, "Help!"
Upon seeing Yunfei rush towards the old woman, Ji Fucai seemed to forget that the person in front of him was his own daughter.
Enraged, he lifted a chair and, with all his might, slammed it down on Ji Yunfei.
With a "crack," the chair slammed into Ji Yunfei and instantly shattered into a pile of wood chips.
Enraged by the attack, Ji Yunfei turned her head sharply, her blood-red eyes fixed on Ji Fucai, and then attacked him.
Ji Yunfei moved with incredible speed, arriving in front of Ji Fucai in the blink of an eye. She raised her hands high, as if to tear Ji Fucai to pieces.
At that critical moment, I suddenly remembered that zombies might use breathing to find the living, so I yelled at the top of my lungs, "Don't breathe!"
When Ji Fucai heard me shout, he hurriedly covered his mouth and nose in a panic.
Surprisingly, Ji Yunfei's attack actually stopped.
She stood still, turning her head from side to side, her empty eyes looking around as if searching for a target.
It really works!
Uncle Ying was right!
Ji Fucai, the others, and I covered our mouths and noses, not daring to make a sound.
Ji Yunfei started wandering around us.
Her movement was very strange; instead of hopping like a traditional zombie, she glided silently as if riding a scooter.
But we are all living beings, and it is impossible for us to go without breathing for a long time.
After holding my breath for more than a minute, I felt like my lungs were about to explode, and my vision started to blur.
I quickly glanced at Ji Fucai and the others, and saw that their faces were also flushed, the veins on their necks were bulging, and large beads of sweat were rolling down their foreheads.
If this continues, we're definitely doomed.
I huddled under the offering table, my peripheral vision catching sight of the brazier in the east corner of the wall.
This was prepared by the family for the salvation of the deceased; the rim of the copper basin still had bits of unburnt yellow paper stuck to it.
A half-bundle of paper money was piled up next to the brazier, one stack of which had been overturned and scattered on the blue brick ground.
Suddenly, Yunfei's screams were right next to her.
I covered my mouth and nose, slowly moved closer to the wall, picked up the brazier, and smashed it into the distance.
The copper basin crashed onto the blue bricks with a loud clang, and sparks flew everywhere from the unburnt paper money.
Ji Yunfei immediately turned towards the source of the sound and rushed over.
I seized the opportunity to pull up Ji Fucai, who was slumped on the ground: "Run!"
I don't know if it was because I squatted for too long, or because my legs went numb from being scared.
When Ji Fucai stood up, his knee hit the leg of the offering table, and he groaned.
I quickly covered his mouth, and the two of us moved along the wall toward the main entrance.
The others followed us and slowly moved forward.
We were getting closer and closer to the entrance of the mourning hall; just a few more steps and we would be able to escape.
A young man somehow tripped hard on the threshold, lost his balance, and fell forward, involuntarily letting out a cry of "Ouch!"
Ji Yunfei suddenly turned her head, her blood-red eyes locking onto us, and let out a hateful roar before lunging at us again.
I couldn't help but curse inwardly, "Damn it!"
He grabbed a kitchen knife, ready to fight her.
But just as I gripped the knife, the young man who had just pushed his girlfriend away and was only concerned with his own escape, in his panic to avoid Ji Yunfei, actually reached out and shoved me hard.
The sudden force made me lose my balance, and I fell forward, heading towards Ji Yunfei.
I'll fuck your mother!
Just as Ji Yunfei's long fingernails were about to touch my body, a deafening shout suddenly rang in my ears: "Dow!"
I didn't even have time to think; my body reacted instinctively, and I lowered my head.
Immediately afterwards, a handful of glutinous rice was sprinkled on Ji Yunfei like a dense barrage of hidden weapons.
The moment the glutinous rice touched her body, it was like a powder keg being lit, crackling and popping incessantly, accompanied by sparks flying everywhere.
Caught off guard by the sudden attack, Ji Yunfei let out a painful and angry roar, and her body involuntarily took a few steps back.
The main door of the mourning hall was suddenly flung open by a strong gust of wind.
Yuan Ying, dressed in a Taoist robe, rushed in like lightning, and without hesitation, thrust the copper coin sword in her hand at Ji Yunfei.
Ji Yunfei sensed the threat, turned around, brandishing her sharp nails, and lunged at Yuan Ying as well.
With a clang, Yuan Ying's copper coin sword pierced Ji Yunfei's outstretched hand.
In an instant, a black flame seemed to ignite where Ji Yunfei's palm touched the copper coin sword, and billowing black smoke hissed out.
Ji Yunfei cried out in pain, letting out a deafening roar, and flung her arm out, trying to break free from the copper coin sword's hold.
Taking advantage of the moment when Ji Yunfei retreated, Yuan Ying turned to me and shouted, "Xiao Chen, don't just stand there like an idiot! We need to set up a 'Four Symbols Soul-Locking Formation' to trap her!"
As he spoke, he untied the cloth bag from his body and handed it to me, giving me instructions.
"Find out four small bronze cauldrons engraved with the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise!"
I hurriedly searched for the bag.
It was filled with a bunch of random things.
"Master, what kind of small bronze cauldron is this? I can't find it!"
While dealing with Ji Yunfei, Yuan Ying took the opportunity to shout at the top of her lungs, "Four fist-sized, cast in bronze, with relief patterns on them! Hurry up!"
