It was already evening. I shakily took out my phone and saw that it was 8 p.m.
Suddenly, I couldn't help but wonder to myself, "Could it be that old man Dr. Sun has already closed his shop?"
Given his eccentric temperament, it's hard to say.
Soon, the car swayed and bumped its way to Buwentang, and I glanced at it and saw that it was already closed.
Suddenly I remembered that the old man's pharmacy had an inner room, and he might live there. So, somewhat weakly, I said to Li Huai:
Go knock on the door.
"Brother Yan, do you even need to tell me?"
Li Huai opened the car door and jumped out, then started banging on the front door.
"Doctor, help! Someone is dying!"
Soon, noises came from inside the door.
"Get lost! Even if someone dies, come back tomorrow. I've already closed the shop, can't you see?!"
The old man's angry voice came from inside.
Li Huai was stunned and glanced at me. Is this guy really a doctor?
"Doctor, please save me! Doctors have the hearts of parents; if you don't help, I'm really going to die!"
Li Huai paused for a moment, then continued knocking on the door.
"What 'doctors have the heart of parents'? Then call me 'Dad' and let me hear it."
"Dad, Dad, open the door quickly, help me!"
Li Huai didn't hesitate at all, which made my lips twitch.
"Good son, will you listen to your father?"
"Yes, of course I'll listen! I'll do whatever you tell me to do!"
Li Huai was now completely indifferent.
Anyway, the voice coming from inside the house is almost old enough to be his grandfather, so calling him "Dad" doesn't mean he's losing face.
"Alright, then good son, take that dying man and get out of here. It's bad luck for him to die at my doorstep."
Dr. Sun's somewhat scoundrel-like voice came from inside the room.
I was incredibly surprised. Although everyone said that Dr. Sun had a strange temper, I couldn't believe it could be this strange.
He seemed pretty normal when I was there last time; you could say he was just a little quirky.
And they're so arrogant, aren't they afraid of getting beaten up?
Upon hearing this, Li Huai was so angry that his nose almost twisted out of shape, and he immediately started kicking the door hard.
"Are you asking for it?!"
Hearing Li Huai kick the door, the old man seemed even angrier.
"You old geezer, I was giving you face by calling you 'Dad' earlier. Don't push your luck. I'll kick the door down and give you a good beating. Let's see if you'll still be able to treat patients then!"
Li Huai's expression was somewhat distorted; he looked genuinely angry.
I'm speechless. How did things get to this point?
My throat hurt and my voice was hoarse. I figured the old man wouldn't be able to hear me if I spoke here, so I asked Luo Tianhe to carry me to the door.
"Hey, Dr. Sun, it's me! If you don't open the door, I'm really going to die!"
I lay on Luo Tianhe's back, weakly calling out towards the door.
"Chen Yan? It's you?"
An old man's surprised voice came from inside the door; he had actually arrived at the doorway.
Sure enough, Dr. Sun was all bark and no bite; he had been saying he wouldn't open the door, but now he was already at the door.
It wasn't until Dr. Sun opened the door that I realized how terribly wrong I had been.
The anger on his face hadn't subsided, and he was holding a gleaming kitchen knife, clearly not for medical treatment.
When Li Huai saw the kitchen knife, he shuddered. This old man was truly ruthless.
The old man didn't respond to me immediately, but instead looked at Li Huai.
"Good son, Dad's a doctor, so it's not a problem for me to carry a scalpel with me, is it?"
Li Huai chuckled awkwardly. If he had just told the old man he knew him, there would have been no need for him to call him "Dad" and all that.
"No problem, no problem, you're really still going strong for your age."
"Come in."
The old man glared at Li Huai with annoyance, then turned and led us into the clinic.
"How come you've changed so much in just one day?"
The old man looked at me, his face full of confusion.
"I encountered a vixen and fought her in a fierce battle."
I spoke concisely, not because I was aloof, but because my throat was so sore; every word felt like it was being cut by a knife.
I don't want to talk at all.
The old man gave me a thumbs up.
"Wow, I admire you. I've never seen a fox spirit or a fox demon in my entire life, and you've managed to run into two in just a few days."
"Alright, Dad, stop making sarcastic remarks and let Yan-ge take a look."
Li Huai, who was standing to the side, couldn't help but interject.
"Don't call me 'Dad.' What kind of son are you? Calling me 'Dad' is ill-intentioned. Are you a jinx?"
The old man squinted at Li Huai, clearly having discerned his extraordinary destiny.
Li Huai scratched his head, somewhat annoyed. How could this old man have seen that out?
"Alright, let's put him on the hospital bed first."
Seeing my pained expression, Dr. Sun directed Luo Tianhe to carefully place me on the hospital bed.
Then he turned on the light.
Under the light, when he saw the bluish-black wound on my neck that was constantly oozing dark pus and blood, his face instantly darkened.
"Nonsense!" he first rebuked Luo Tianhe and Li Huai.
"Using glutinous rice to deal with the fox demon? How could you even think of that! The fox demon's evil aura is insidious and cunning, far surpassing mere corpse poison. If it weren't for this kid's extraordinary constitution, giving him some foundation, you'd all be waiting to collect his corpse!"
Li Huaiyu and Luo Tianhe were so scolded that they didn't dare to raise their heads, mainly because they really had no other choice at the time.
Since Master Zhang Qingxiao wasn't around and they didn't know any other experts, they had to figure out a solution on their own.
Seeing that they didn't speak, Dr. Sun ignored them.
After washing his hands, he carefully used a small silver scraper to clean away the blackened, foul-smelling glutinous rice and pus from my wound.
Each blow brought excruciating pain; I gritted my teeth, cold sweat pouring down my face.
After cleaning the wound, Dr. Sun brought out a crudely made earthenware bowl, then rummaged through drawers and cabinets and took out a piece of sulfur.
Then he found several different colored powders and poured them in, and added some dark, viscous liquid that he didn't know what it was made of.
My lips twitched. If I didn't trust Dr. Sun enough, I would never have let anyone put this stuff on my wound.
"Doctor, can this thing really cure diseases? Isn't this explosive?"
Li Huai was speechless.
It's no wonder he was puzzled; the pungent smell of sulfur was unmistakable, something he often smelled when setting off firecrackers as a child.
"You bumpkin, what do you know! This is a folk remedy, using realgar, sulfur, and Euonymus alatus as the main ingredients, supplemented with several herbs to dispel wind and evil."
He tried to mediate while simultaneously criticizing Li Huai.
"Fox venom is cold and sinister, this folk remedy is exploding. You don't know anything about the so-called mutual generation and restraint."
The ointment was dark red and emitted a pungent sulfur smell, making it smell even more like dynamite.
Dr. Sun used a bamboo stick to scoop up the ointment and applied it evenly around my wound.
I couldn't help but gasp, and the muscles at the wound site began to twitch uncontrollably.
