Chapter 1537 Ghostly Quest

Seeing Fatty Wang, a big man, kneeling on the ground crying and wailing, his face covered in tears and snot, left us speechless.

His fat body wobbled on the ground, looking both comical and ridiculous.

"Alright, alright, get up, you spineless coward!" Luo Tianhe waved his hand in disgust, too lazy to argue with him anymore. "You can drive, right? Get up and drive, I don't want to stay here any longer!"

After working all night, even if Luo Tianhe is an iron man, he is now exhausted!

If he were to drive back again, he might suddenly die on the road.

Me too, I didn't want to touch the steering wheel at all, so I just let this fat guy drive.

"Yes, yes, I'll start right away, I'll start right away!" Fatty Wang was overjoyed. He scrambled to his feet, took the keys from Luo Tianhe, climbed into the driver's seat, and started the car.

We placed Zhao Laoshuan's body in the back seat and even found an old canvas in the car to cover it as best we could.

Otherwise, a passerby peeking through the window would be terrified!

Everyone squeezed onto the bus, which swayed and bumped as it drove on its return journey.

Although the mountain road was still very bumpy, I was so tired that I fell asleep again soon. When I opened my eyes again, I found that we were still in the mountains.

I checked my phone and saw it was almost noon. Why hadn't that fatso gotten to the city yet? It took me two or three hours to get here, and he's been driving for six or seven hours!

Luo Tianhe, Li Huai, and the others had also woken up and were now silently gazing out the window.

I rubbed my temples and asked, "What's going on? Why haven't we reached the city yet?"

"That idiot took the wrong road!" Luo Tianhe cursed irritably. He was speechless with frustration at the fat man and wished he could slap him twice.

Hearing this, I felt a surge of anger. There were hardly any turns along the way, yet he still managed to make a mistake. He's quite something!

Wang Pangzi forced out an awkward smile: "I didn't remember the way carefully when I came, but now I'm on the right track and should be out of the mountains soon."

After he finished speaking, the car fell silent again.

Fatty Wang probably wanted to ease the tension. Or perhaps he was genuinely curious, after driving for a while, he cautiously glanced at us in the rearview mirror, swallowed hard, and said:

"Brothers, what's the deal with that temple on the mountain, and that ghostly thing?"

Luo Tianhe opened his eyes. This fatso is almost old enough to be our uncle, and he's even calling us "big brother." He's shameless!

He couldn't be bothered to explain to this guy, and coldly said, "Just drive your car properly, and don't ask questions you shouldn't ask!"

Fatty Wang immediately shrank his neck, but still couldn't help but lower his voice, saying with a hint of grievance and lingering fear:

"Brother Luo, I'm not just asking around. After all, this happened in my family's funeral home. Although what I did before wasn't right, I never expected such a strange thing to happen!"

"Furthermore, Master Chen, I now know that your funeral home is different from ours. When it comes to strange occurrences, our funeral home is definitely the first to be involved. We might need to rely on you more in the future!"

Seeing that Luo Tianhe was unwilling to pay attention to him, he turned to me and said,

His voice was somewhat obsequious, as if he wanted to get me to tell him something through a business deal.

I couldn't help but frown. This guy didn't seem like a very curious person. Why was he asking so many questions? Did something really happen to him?

I was too lazy to argue with him anymore, so I just got straight to the point: "Tell me what's wrong, stop with the nonsense."

Seeing that I seemed to have figured out what he meant, Fatty Wang quickly said:

"It's like this, strange things have been happening on the road leading from our funeral home to the cemetery lately."

Li Huai, who had just taken another nap, was woken up by our conversation and asked groggily:

"What strange thing? Is it haunted?"

"It's even more eerie than a ghost story!" Fatty Wang lowered his voice even further, as if afraid something would hear him. "I heard from the person who delivers ashes in our family that sometimes people ask for directions when they drive there at night."

"Asking for directions?" Luo Tianhe scoffed. "What's so strange about asking for directions in the middle of the night? Maybe someone had something to do at home and didn't go home that night? Or maybe they were drunk, got lost, and only remembered to ask for directions after they sobered up."

"Brother, let me finish, this definitely isn't a normal person asking for directions!" Fatty Wang said anxiously.

"The man asking for directions was dressed in extremely old-fashioned clothes, with a deathly pale face. He stood in the middle of the road waving, not afraid you'd bump into him. If you stopped your car, he'd come over and ask you through the window, 'Sir, how do I get to Ling?' or 'Sir, do you know where the cemetery is?'"

A thought struck me: Ling and Fenshan are not auspicious place names; some are even old names that locals avoid mentioning.

After all, this often refers to mass graves or old cemeteries.

Who would ask about the route there so late at night? I don't believe it's for burning paper money!

"And then?" Li Huai asked curiously, now that he was more awake.

"And then?" A look of fear appeared on Fatty Wang's face, and his fat jiggled.

"If we actually give him directions or let him get in the car, that would be a real problem. At best, the car would break down halfway and we wouldn't be able to start it, leaving us stranded in the middle of nowhere all night. At worst, he could be dead!"

Hearing this, I sincerely admire those who dare to open the car doors for them.

Standing in the middle of the road waving in the middle of the night, dressed in old-fashioned clothes and with a pale face—I'd be lucky if I didn't run him over with my car, let alone give him a ride!

"Is this your guess, or did it actually happen? But I have to say, that driver was incredibly bold to let him get in the car like that?" Li Huai asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Of course it really happened. I'm not telling you ghost stories, why would I make wild guesses? That driver was just a young and fearless fool. Sigh..." Fatty Wang sighed as he said this, seemingly with some regret.

"The deceased's surname was Fang, and we all called her Xiao Fang."

When he was found the next day, his car was parked on the side of the road, and he was sitting in the driver's seat, but he was already gone.

Strangely, he had no injuries whatsoever, but his face was exactly the same as the one who asked for directions—pale as death!

Some people also said they saw the two of them later that night, standing in the middle of the road waving and asking for directions.

After he finished speaking, the car fell silent for a moment. It was already daylight, but what he had said still sent chills down our spines.

"Hehe, I didn't believe it before. I thought he died suddenly because he always stayed up all night playing games. Now I see how ridiculous I was!"
