Chapter 1285 Taking a Risk

As the saying goes, it's better to live a miserable life than to die a good death, so I can understand him.

But right now I've only noticed something's wrong, and I'm not 100% sure I can save him.

I helped him up and repeated what I had said to him.

Next, I checked the living room, bathroom, and bedroom, but still couldn't find anything amiss.

"It seems there's only one last option left. Let's take a gamble. You should get some sleep now. With me here, I promise you won't die."

I turned to look at Zhang Teng, who froze, his lips trembling as he spoke:

"Is there no other way?"

I nodded; that sinister thing was hidden too well.

However, as long as Zhang Teng is asleep, if that person appears in his nightmares, then whatever is causing the trouble will leave traces.

Simply put, the mastermind can remain completely hidden as long as they don't act. But once Zhang Teng falls asleep and makes their move, they won't be able to miss a single flaw!

Zhang Teng sat on the sofa, covered his head with his hands, and struggled.

I heard his hoarse voice:

"Let me think about it."

Seeing this, Luo Tianhe couldn't help but speak up:

"If you ask me, how much longer can you hold on? You haven't slept for four or five days, have you? You might not be able to hold on any longer. If you sleep in front of us, we can try to help you. But if you fall asleep alone, you might never wake up again!"

“Zhang Teng understands all this, but you won’t understand unless you experience that nightmare firsthand. Let him think about it himself.” Li Huai pulled Luo Tianhe aside and led us to an empty room to sit down, giving Zhang Teng some private space to consider.

Closing the door, Luo Tianhe crossed his arms and looked at Li Huai:

"Why are you stopping me from trying to persuade him? It's not a good idea for him to just endure this."

Li Huai spread his hands, saying with a hint of helplessness:

“You have to give him some time to think it over. After all, this is the first time he’s met Brother Yan, so naturally we can’t trust him 100% like you do. Letting him sleep in front of us would be like handing his life over to us.”

I looked at Li Huai thoughtfully:

"Li Huai, how likely do you think he is to agree to my method?"

"I'd say he'll come to his senses about 90 percent. He's just a little scared for now, since out of all those masters, you're the only one who offered a different opinion."

Li Huai rubbed his nose, making a rather confident guess.

Sure enough, not long after, Zhang Teng's voice came from the living room:

"Master, please come here. I've thought it through."

Li Huai glanced at us with a smug look; he had guessed correctly.

Upon entering the living room, Zhang Teng's smile was bitter:

"You're right, I can't hold on much longer. My head is buzzing right now, and if I don't sleep soon, I might die suddenly."

I nodded and said solemnly:

"With us here, you will definitely not die."

"I hope so."

Zhang Teng responded weakly, and without going into the bedroom, he lay down on the sofa, closed his eyes, and began snoring within seconds.

"This guy falls asleep way too fast."

Luo Tianhe's lips twitched, and his eyes widened.

"Try staying up for four or five days straight. If it were you, you'd probably fall asleep even faster than him!"

Li Huai seems to have a good relationship with Zhang Teng, and he speaks up for him quite a bit.

I ignored Li Huai and Luo Tianhe's chatter and activated my Heavenly Eye to stare intently at the faint, slowly twisting black aura between Zhang Teng's brows.

Under the Heavenly Eye, the form of that black energy was different from the ordinary Yin Sha resentment energy; it was more... agile, carrying an almost cunning vitality.

It's not a ghost! I made that judgment to myself.

But besides ghosts, there are only two possibilities!

One possibility is that a wicked person who possesses evil and unorthodox methods cursed him.

Secondly, Zhang Teng may have offended some kind of spirit or monster, and they are retaliating!

At the same time, a very faint but unusually unique fishy smell entered my nostrils.

The scent was faint, yet it made my heart sink.

This is not the yin energy of ordinary ghosts, but...

“It’s Huang Xian’er’s aura,” I said in a low voice, unconsciously lowering my voice.

I've actually met Wong Tai Sin before. The Wong Fairy who performed the exorcism for us back then was Ma, a female disciple who worships Wong Tai Sin.

Upon hearing my words, Li Huai and Luo Tianhe's faces turned ashen.

It's impossible for someone from Northeast China not to have heard of the Five Great Immortals: the Fox Immortal (fox), the Yellow Immortal (weasel), the White Immortal (hedgehog), the Willow Immortal (snake), and the Gray Immortal (rat).

Young people in the south, outside of Northeast China, may not have heard of the Five Great Immortals, but they certainly know about the Weasel Immortal, and their parents should have warned them not to provoke the weasel.

Because Wong Tai Sin is known for being vengeful and using cunning methods, if you get entangled with him, well, that's a real disaster!

"Huang Daxian?!" Li Huai's voice changed. "My God, how did Zhang Teng, that fool, get involved with this deity?"

Luo Tianhe was also puzzled. Even a scoundrel like him knew to keep his distance from Wong Tai Sin, so how did Zhang Teng manage to offend them?

"No wonder the room was so clean," I suddenly realized.

Although Li Huai and Luo Tianhe both knew about the Weasel, they didn't really understand its habits. After all, we live in the south, and kids from the northeast don't know as much about weasels as children from the northeast.

I looked at Luo Tianhe and Li Huai, who both looked puzzled, and explained:

“My grandfather said that Wong Tai Sin is obsessed with cleanliness. The places where they reside or cast spells will instinctively dispel all filth and evil spirits, which is why this place is so clean.”

Just as I finished speaking, a very faint rustling sound came from the direction of the bathroom.

The sound was definitely not water flowing from a pipe; it was more like some small animal with sharp claws and toes cautiously crawling on smooth tiles.

The three of us looked at each other, realizing what had happened.

Although we were a little scared, we held our breath and tiptoed over.

We pushed open the slightly ajar bathroom door, but saw nothing.

But on the white washstand, there was a row of brand new, wet little paw prints!

What made me even more uneasy was that a thin layer of condensation had appeared on the smooth mirror surface.

A slender shadow was faintly visible in the mist, flashing by in an instant.

"Wait, Zhang Teng's snoring has stopped!"

Li Huai suddenly exclaimed. I listened carefully and it was true. Zhang Teng's snoring, which had been like thunder just now, had completely disappeared.

Immediately, alarm bells rang in my mind.

"Back to the living room!" I shouted, turning and rushing out of the bathroom.

Back in the living room, Zhang Teng, who was lying on the sofa, began to convulse violently.

He let out painful whimpers, and his hands unconsciously rose up, gripping his neck tightly.

Zhang Teng's face quickly changed from bright red to an unnatural bluish-purple.
