I stood up, but instead of saying anything, I looked around.
We are currently in a family's courtyard, where red couplets are pasted everywhere, and the cook is busy preparing food; it looks like the feast is about to begin.
Immediately, Luo Tianhe and I exchanged a glance and realized that we had entered that evil environment.
We had previously entered Bai Su's illusion and learned how she died.
Now it seems that this evil spirit may no longer harbor much resentment; it simply wants us to know how she died.
Li Huai looked completely bewildered. He scratched his head, thought for a long time but couldn't figure it out, and finally looked at me:
"Brother Yan, have we traveled through time?"
I immediately slapped him on the head.
"Time travel my foot! I'll explain later."
I looked at the burly man in front of me, nodded, and said:
"That's right, the three of us are here to help."
Before the burly man could ask any more questions, I pulled Li Huai to the gate of the courtyard.
Upon reaching this point, Li Huai suddenly realized something and pointed to the large tree at the entrance, saying:
"Holy crap, isn't that the tree in front of that family's house? I remember that couple was hanging from that branch!"
"You're only just realizing it? And the courtyard we were in just now was his house."
Luo Tianhe looked at Li Huai with some disdain, feeling extremely shocked by his reaction speed.
"But between us, there was clearly a wasteland,"
Li Huai spoke haltingly, feeling as if his brain had turned to mush.
"We've entered an illusion. It must be what that evil spirit wants us to see. With such deep resentment, she must have turned into a vengeful ghost after death. She must have died a terrible death."
I organized my thoughts and explained to Li Huai.
"Yes, it's in ruins now, but it was fine before. This is what it looked like decades ago, or maybe even earlier."
"Wow, you can do that?"
Li Huai sighed, then watched the busy crowd with great interest.
"Can we eat at the big feast later?"
"What are you eating? You eat!"
Luo Tianhe was speechless, and slapped Li Huai hard again.
Sometimes he didn't understand what was going on in Li Huai's head.
"Hehe, if you want to try human flesh, or a corpse possessed by evil spirits, you can eat as much as you want later."
As soon as I finished speaking, I heard a burst of lively and festive suona music coming from the courtyard. The three of us blended in with the busy crowd and were not conspicuous.
"The bride is here! The bride is here!" a child shouted excitedly as he ran into the yard.
I recalled the evil spirit I had seen before, the faded wedding dress she wore, so I nudged Li Huai and Luo Tianhe and whispered:
"This bride is probably that evil spirit."
When they heard me speak, they both nodded perfunctorily and turned their faces toward me, staring in the direction the child had run from.
Those two idiots.
I cursed under my breath and looked in the direction they were looking.
A large red sedan chair stopped at the door, and a woman dressed in a bright red wedding gown and covered with a red veil was carefully helped down from the sedan chair by the matchmaker.
Although her face was not visible, one could sense her anticipation for her new life and a touch of shyness from her slender figure and slightly nervous steps.
"Although we can't see her face, she has a really good figure."
Li Huai exclaimed in amazement.
"Hehe, with my experience of dating countless women, even without looking at her face, I can tell she must be very beautiful!"
Luo Tianhe, standing to the side, said with utmost confidence.
"Hey you two, do you really think you're here for a wedding? Don't forget this is an illusion. What's about to happen is going to be quite tragic!"
I crossed my arms and splashed cold water on myself.
"Should we intervene if something happens later?"
Hearing my words, Li Huai asked somewhat indignantly.
"Alas, this is an illusion. Even if we take action, it will be useless. We can't change the outcome at all."
Luo Tianhe sighed deeply, clearly feeling great regret about the bride's future fate.
For a moment, he couldn't even connect this lovely bride with the terrifying zombie that awaited him.
"Is that really true, Brother Yan?"
Although Li Huai trusted Luo Tianhe completely, he couldn't help but look at me expectantly, asking with a last glimmer of hope.
Luo Tianhe wasn't angry because Li Huai doubted him; if possible, he would have preferred to receive a negative answer from me.
"Luo Tianhe is right." I ignored their expectant looks, nodded, and felt heavy-hearted.
The greater the contrast, the deeper the injustice and suffering hidden behind it.
The wedding proceeded smoothly: the wedding ceremony, the marriage ceremony, and the wedding night all seemed normal until the guests began their banquet.
The three of us randomly picked a table with kids and sat down.
The kids ran off to play halfway through their meal, leaving only the three of us at the table.
It has to be said that the environment was rather rough; the three of us sat at the table, straining our ears to listen to the conversations of the people around us.
No one seemed puzzled as they remained completely untouched by the steaming hot food on the table.
"Damn it, it's all just gossip and trivial matters, like whose husband is incompetent or whose wife is cheating on him. We can't get any useful information at all."
After listening for a while, Luo Tianhe slammed his hand on the table and said angrily.
"That's true, why don't we help serve the dishes? Don't forget we're here to help."
Upon hearing this, I made the suggestion.
"Damn, I'm the boss. Have you ever seen a boss serving other people food and drinks?"
Luo Tianhe immediately raised an eyebrow.
"Get out of here. When you saw the ghost before, you didn't jump out and say you were the boss. Instead, you were scared out of your wits."
I curled my lip and said with some disdain, then stood up and walked towards the kitchen.
"Brother Luo, a true man knows when to yield and when to stand firm. Let's go and gather some useful information. You don't want to be trapped in this illusion for the rest of your life, do you?"
Li Huai also stood up, but actually he wasn't there to gather information.
The main problem is that facing a table full of steaming hot food but not being able to eat it is just too tempting. It's better to go out for a stroll.
Seeing that we had both left, Luo Tianhe felt embarrassed to stay at the children's table.
When we got to the kitchen, we exchanged a few casual words, and the people there, clearly not thinking much about it, readily handed over the task of serving the dishes to us.
Taking advantage of the breaks while serving dishes, we moved among the many guests and quickly gleaned some useful information.
First, I noticed that the burly man with the cigarette in his mouth earlier was actually the groom at this wedding.
