Chapter 35 Ghost Passenger

Ghost drivers?

At that moment, I finally understood what that guy meant by not receiving money after scanning the QR code and buying a villa for two hundred yuan.

No wonder he wouldn't let me smoke in his car; if I did, the whole car would catch fire.

However, what's truly chilling is what he said in the car.

"Bincheng Building? Even a ghost wouldn't dare go there!"

How eerie must a place be if even ghosts dare not go there?

I looked up at the Bincheng Building in front of me.

It resembles a primordial behemoth lurking in the depths of the dark night, ready to devour its prey.

Just a glance from afar, and I could feel an invisible pressure pressing down on me, causing a fine layer of sweat to appear on my back without my realizing it.

It wasn't out of fear, but rather a feeling of intense oppression, like a heavy stone pressing on my chest, making it hard to breathe.

I think it's because of the layout of the Bincheng Building.

Above the towering ten-meter-high gate hangs a sign made of numerous LED glass panels. Its shape is long and vertical, resembling a tombstone in feng shui.

On the left and right sides of the building stand the arched entrances and exits of the parking lot.

The two sides are flanked by each other, much like the layout of a tomb gate in a cemetery.

Although I don't understand feng shui, I've worked at a funeral home for so long that I know a little bit about it, since we sell cemetery plots in our area.

The layout of Bincheng Building is a typical example of a place where yin energy gathers and yang energy cannot flow, making it resemble a natural yin dwelling.

If you stay in this place for too long, you will easily be affected by the evil energy, your luck will become very bad, nothing will go smoothly, and your physical and mental health will suffer as a result.

It would be strange if nothing happened while working in such an environment.

Sudden.

With a "splash," a bowl of fermented rice soup was spilled onto the road in front of me.

The plump proprietress stood at the door, hands on her hips, and started yelling.

"You wandering ghost, what are you doing here? This is not a place for you. If you've eaten your fill, get out of here now. Don't linger here, or I'll whip you with this willow branch until you're completely obliterated!"

Judging from her expression, she seemed to be used to this kind of thing.

"What are you standing there for? Are you scared out of your wits by a ghost? Are you going to buy anything or not?"

After cursing the ghost, she turned and looked at me with annoyance.

This plump proprietress has quite a temper; I wonder if she's going through menopause.

I frowned and asked her to get me a pack of cigarettes.

After paying, I squatted down at the intersection, tore open the bread bag, lit three cigarettes, and burned the white crystal bracelet that Huang Xiangu had given me earlier.

"Brother, thank you for giving me a ride. Here's the bread and cigarettes you wanted. Eat and smoke well, and go wherever you need to go."

As soon as the words were spoken, the rising smoke began to drift slowly in the same direction, and the smoke burned at a speed visible to the naked eye.

It felt like there was an unseen person squatting beside you, greedily puffing away.

I turned my head and looked in the direction the smoke was drifting, and I saw the driver from before walking out of the parking lot exit of Bincheng Building.

He opened his mouth and inhaled deeply, causing the cigarette in front of me to burn even faster.

Just as the driver reached the middle of the road, a black car sped towards them like a wild horse, showing no signs of slowing down.

I jumped to my feet and instinctively shouted, "Watch out!"

The word "heart" had barely been uttered when the black car slammed into the driver and sped away in a cloud of dust.

However, the driver got up from the ground as if nothing had happened, walked straight to me, squatted down, closed his eyes, and continued to inhale deeply.

I once heard someone say that some ghosts, because of their deep-seated obsessions, do not reincarnate after death, but instead keep repeating the events they experienced on the day they were born.

Seeing the driver squatting beside me, inhaling the aroma of the bread with rapt attention, I quickly gave him three more cigarettes.

Seeing that he had no recollection of me, I didn't say anything more and silently turned back to the shop.

It's already past 11 p.m., and even though I'm in a hurry, I shouldn't bother Niu Hongsheng's father.

I asked the plump landlady if she knew where there was a place to stay.

"Single room is 60 yuan, double room is 80 yuan."

The plump proprietress flipped over the sign on the counter that read "No cigarettes sold to minors," and behind it were three words: "[Guest rooms available]."

It was then that I noticed that the first floor was a small shop, and the second to fourth floors were private rooms converted into a guesthouse.

I paid sixty and got a single room.

As we were getting ready to go upstairs, the plump landlady reminded us, "There's still half an hour left. If you're going out, hurry back. I close the door and go to sleep after midnight. I don't open until 7 a.m. If there's anything urgent, call me. My number is posted on the back of the door."

I replied "Okay" and went upstairs.

The plump landlady gave me a room on the fourth floor—408.

The room was at the end of the corridor.

When I got to 407, I heard a young couple fighting, and they were screaming quite pitifully.

The room was fairly clean, and it had air conditioning, a TV, and a toilet.

I took a shower and lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. All I could hear were the screams of the woman next door, sometimes loud, sometimes low.

I was getting really annoyed when Su Mingyang called me. Judging from the noisy background noise, he seemed to be drinking outside.

He immediately started bragging to me, "Old Chen, guess who I'm with?"

Without thinking, I said, "Xiao He!"

"Damn, this is so boring."

I knew Su Mingyang wasn't calling to show off, so I quickly asked him what the progress was.

Su Mingyang replied, "Wait a minute," and then he heard someone talking on the other end of the line: "Honey, I'm going to make a call. You keep drinking, mwah!"

Wait, this guy hooked up with Xiao He so quickly?

It's only been a few hours, and they're already calling each other husband and wife.

Two minutes later, Su Mingyang's end fell silent.

"Old Chen, let me tell you, I actually managed to get some information about Bai Su from Xiao He. Guess what? Bai Su really is the illegitimate daughter of the former richest man."

I interrupted him: "Get to the point."

"Promiscuous, a 'psychopath,' and selling her body for money."

I thought I misheard, so I asked again: "You mean the daughter of the richest man in the country sold her body for money?"

I can understand promiscuity.

Rich people have everything, so they just like to do crazy things.

I have personally helped prepare the remains of five wealthy daughters.

Four of them got into a motorcycle accident while racing with a group of young men, and another one committed suicide by jumping off a building after contracting a disease while playing cards with friends.

But you're saying the richest man's daughter is so poor she has to sell her body? That sounds so unbelievable!

"Don't even mention you, I didn't believe it at first either, but it's all been proven true."

"Just you wait, I'll send you the evidence! It'll blow your mind, and there are lots of bonus photos of Bai Su too!"
