Deep within the white mist behind the long-haired figure, a silhouette appeared and disappeared, making it impossible to discern whether it was male or female.
I nudged Luo Tianhe beside me with my elbow and tilted my head slightly, gesturing for him to look in the direction of the long-haired man.
Luo Tianhe paused for a moment, then glanced knowingly at the long-haired man, his muscles instantly tensing.
They were probably startled.
In a voice only the two of us could hear, he asked, "Who is that?"
I said I didn't know, but he was acting suspiciously, which didn't seem like a good person.
"Get him?"
I pondered for a moment and said, "Later, I will deliberately start an argument with the novelist to attract his attention. You seize the opportunity and find a chance to catch him."
After we agreed on what to do, I slowly walked towards the long-haired man.
As soon as I approached, the long-haired man instantly became alert and shouted, "What are you doing!"
I smiled at him amicably and said I didn't do anything, I just wanted to see his bronze bell.
Upon hearing this, the long-haired man clutched his pocket even tighter.
I secretly glanced at the figure hidden in the white mist out of the corner of my eye.
He remained motionless.
Although I couldn't see his face, I could feel a pair of icy, bone-chilling eyes staring intently at me, making me feel extremely uncomfortable.
As I approached the long-haired man, I deliberately raised my voice.
"It's just a glance at that bell, why are you being so stingy? That bell looks really eerie, I was just trying to help you take a look, and you're so ungrateful!"
As I spoke, I took a step forward, feigning emotional agitation, trying to force the long-haired man to back away.
I don't know if my long hair has taken the wrong medicine, because it was so timid before, but now it's unusually excited.
Instead of backing away, she pushed me hard.
"Stop spouting nonsense! I dug this bell out, so it's mine. Why should I show it to you? Are you trying to steal it?"
Seeing that things were not going well, Luo Tianhe rushed forward and forcefully pushed the long hair.
"Get excited, my ass? Would it kill you to take a look?"
Long Hair was enraged when Luo Tianhe pushed her like that, and she turned around to push Luo Tianhe back, and the two of them started fighting instantly.
Seeing this, Liu Junming and the others rushed over to try and break up the fight. Some grabbed Luo Tianhe, while others pulled on his long hair, creating a chaotic scene.
I seized the opportunity and pretended to pull my long hair.
Taking advantage of the moment he forcefully shook me off, I used the recoil to leap forward and rush towards the figure, grabbing his hand.
At the same time, I could see his face clearly.
It was that crazy beggar I met at the village entrance.
In the brief moment I was stunned, the mad beggar suddenly lowered his head and bit my hand, then took the opportunity to turn and run away, disappearing into the white mist in an instant.
I looked down at the back of my hand, where a row of bloody teeth marks appeared, and it stung painfully.
This beggar hasn't brushed his teeth in ages; he'll probably need to get a rabies shot when he gets back.
The others were also taken aback by this sudden turn of events and gradually came to their senses.
Seeing that Luo Tianhe was about to chase after him, I quickly grabbed him.
"Don't chase after them, the fog is too thick, you can't catch up!"
Luo Tianhe stopped and turned around to ask me, "Did you see clearly? Who was that person?"
I rubbed my injured hand and said it was a crazy beggar who had thrown stones at me at the village entrance last time.
"beggar?"
Liu Junming exclaimed, "It's Xiaoying's husband! But what's he doing following us?"
"He's a madman, why do you care about him? Let's find a way down the mountain, I don't want to stay in this godforsaken place for even a second longer!"
Gao Qian, looking disgusted, slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked forward.
The others hurriedly followed.
"Are you alright?" Luo Tianhe patted my shoulder.
I said it was nothing, I just got bitten.
As they were walking, Liu Junming, who was walking at the front, suddenly stopped.
"Captain, why are we stopping?" Gao Qian asked.
Liu Junming pointed to a tree not far ahead and said in a trembling voice, "We've come back. I just marked it with a red cloth."
I looked in the direction he pointed and sure enough, I saw a red rope tied to a tree.
The bright red stood out starkly against the white fog.
"The fog is probably too thick. Let's keep going."
Liu Junming sighed helplessly, then tied another red rope to a tree branch nearby, attempting to mark the route.
However, after walking for a long time, we ended up back at the place where the red rope was tied.
Su Meng turned pale with fright, tears welling in her eyes, her voice trembling with sobs: "We...were we trapped in a ghost wall?"
This statement was like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, instantly creating ripples.
Gao Qian's previously composed face revealed a look of terror, and her hands unconsciously gripped the hem of her clothes tightly.
"Don't panic, everyone. Let me check the compass!"
As the team leader, Liu Junming quickly reassured everyone not to be nervous, and then took out a compass from his backpack.
However, the compass seemed to be malfunctioning; the needle spun rapidly and could not indicate any direction.
Although Liu Junming tried to remain calm, fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.
But he could only force a smile and say, "It might be magnetic interference. Some places in these mountains have rather unusual magnetic fields."
That sounds reasonable, but we all know the truth in our hearts.
Before the white fog rose, all the equipment was working properly. Now that the interference has suddenly occurred, the reason is hard to believe.
I said, "Maybe it's not magnetic interference, or being trapped in a ghost wall. It might be that your mind has been affected by the Yin Sha copper bell. Why don't you try throwing the bell away?"
Before the long-haired girl could retort, Gao Qian suddenly turned around and glared at me fiercely.
"I'm saying, do you have some serious problem? You're acting all weird and strange all the time, aren't you annoying?"
"Shh, don't make any noise!"
Attorney Zhou made a shushing gesture and asked nervously, "Did you hear that? It sounds like someone is singing."
"Sister Zhou, don't scare me! How could there be a woman singing in this desolate place?"
Su Meng trembled with fright and hurriedly moved closer to Luo Tianhe.
"It seems there really is!"
Luo Tianhe pointed ahead: "The sound is coming from that direction."
I could also faintly hear a woman singing.
The singing was melodious and graceful, yet it carried an indescribable sense of desolation.
Su Meng gripped Luo Tianhe's arm tightly, looking around in terror: "Is that Xiao Ying? We...we're not going to die here, are we?"
Upon hearing this, everyone present turned pale with fright.
Liu Junming retorted, "How could there be ghosts in this world? Don't scare yourself. I've hiked through so many places and often encountered people gathering herbs in the mountains. They might just be villagers."
Gao Qian chimed in, "Yes, yes, she's probably a villager. She definitely knows how to leave here!"
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!"
