Seeing that we were stunned for a moment, Old Chen pointed to the red string on his wrist.
He then pointed to several iron parts in the yard that seemed to be placed randomly, but which vaguely formed some kind of pattern.
"You've managed to overcome some crises and find your way here, so you must have some skills."
Old Chen took another deep drag on his cigarette, and within minutes, he had almost finished the whole thing.
He continued, still holding his cigarette butt:
“I also saw the Five Emperors Coins on these two young men. They are genuine, not fakes. So you should be able to tell something from them, right?”
When he said his last sentence, he stared straight at me, clearly recognizing me as the leader of the three.
I nodded; I did see something in it.
"This must be a method to suppress evil spirits."
"That's right, you're really capable."
Old Chen nodded crisply, his smile widening.
"I'm only able to stay conscious and avoid becoming one of those walking corpses outside because of this ancestral method of suppressing evil spirits and these lumps of iron that have been imbued with the masculine energy of the furnace fire."
Old Chen ground his empty cigarette butt on the metal lump and then threw it on the ground.
He then looked at me and said in a low, suppressed voice:
"Blackwater Village is no longer a place for the living. Someone is using evil magic to refine blood spirits!"
Bloodthirsty accomplice!
Upon hearing those familiar words from his mouth, the three of us couldn't help but exchange excited glances.
After being in this village for a day or two, we finally found some clues.
Old Chen was clearly surprised by our reaction.
"Have you heard of the Blood Servant?"
"To be honest, we came to Blackwater Village to investigate this."
Luo Tianhe spoke up.
"What?!"
For the first time, Old Chen showed a surprised expression, and then he muttered to himself:
"You're truly fearless, aren't you? Since you know about the Blood Clan, you still dare to come to Blackwater Village. Really, really..."
He trailed off, unable to continue.
“We have a friend who was almost turned into a blood fodder. Whether it’s for revenge or to prevent the mastermind from targeting her again, we have no choice but to find out the truth and kill him!”
I said it word by word.
Hearing me say that, Old Chen nodded, his tone becoming somewhat admiring:
"Alright, I underestimated you guys."
"The art of concocting blood spirits is no simple task, and it's impossible for everyone in the village to know it. Why is the village so strange? And why does everyone there eat human flesh?!"
I pressed on, asking why there were so many strange things about this village that puzzled me.
"Hehe, at first we forced them to eat it, but later they got used to it and even became somewhat dependent on it."
A deep sadness and sympathy appeared on Old Chen's face.
He knew it wasn't the villagers' fault; they were just ordinary people.
"There's something in that meat, like poison, that temporarily makes them numb and unable to feel pain. They slowly lose themselves and become domesticated animals, living in a daze during the day and being controlled at night to become the henchmen of some bloodthirsty accomplice, or as spare materials!"
Suddenly, I felt a chill run from the soles of my feet straight up to the top of my head.
This village is practically a giant sorcery factory and breeding ground, and these poor villagers are lambs to the slaughter and commodities to be consumed.
"How many people in the village still have their own consciousness?"
I asked instinctively.
"There aren't many left, it should just be me and my seventh uncle."
Old Chen said weakly, his eyes filled with despair.
“Why don’t you try to escape? Seventh Uncle might have his own ideas, and he’s getting old; perhaps he wants to return to his roots. But you’re only in your forties; you’re still young,”
Before I could finish speaking, Old Chen raised his hand and interrupted me.
He looked at me meaningfully and said:
"Do you think that once the tire is fixed, you can get out of here?"
Before I could even answer, Old Chen continued:
"It's not that simple. It's easy for you to get into this village, but it's difficult to get out! I've tried, but the road is still the same road, and whether you can get out is not up to you."
After Old Chen finished speaking, he stopped talking, and for a moment, the courtyard fell into a deathly silence.
This village is so strange. Even if the car is repaired, we still can't leave?
Luo Tianhe, Li Huai, and I exchanged glances, all of us noticing the seriousness in each other's eyes.
"Please fix our car first, no matter what. At least there'll be some hope."
After thinking for a long time, I looked at Old Chen and made a request.
"Hehe, since you insist, it's not impossible. I'll fix the tire for you, consider it payment for this pack of cigarettes."
Old Chen tapped his cigarette box and said confidently.
Even though he didn't have many useful tools and the tire was completely ripped out of shape, he was confident he could fix it.
"Come on, take me to your car. It's still early, there's still some time before sunset."
“Wait, Old Chen, I suddenly remembered that Wang Fugui said it was getting dark soon, and when I asked Uncle Qi, he didn’t deny it. Do you know what that means?”
"What?"
Upon hearing this, Old Chen exclaimed in surprise and then looked up at the horizon.
"I wasn't paying attention just now, but the yin energy is indeed gathering at an accelerated pace, and it's going to get dark earlier!"
"How can it be dark? It's clearly afternoon now."
Li Huai asked me the question first, puzzled.
"It's not the sun setting." Old Chen spoke quickly, with a hint of fear in his voice.
"It's the filthy energy accumulated from refining the Blood Servant. Once it reaches its peak, it floods the village like a tide. This rarely happens; I've only seen it a few times. You just happened to be in this situation. I don't know if it's lucky or unlucky!"
Without offering any further explanation, he rushed to a corner piled high with junk by the courtyard wall.
What are they trying to do? I looked puzzled.
Then, to our somewhat surprised gaze, he struggled to lift a thick, mud-covered canvas, revealing a dark hole underneath.
"Come in quickly. After dark, the yang energy on us living people will be as eye-catching as torches in the night, and they will all be targeting us."
"This is a hiding place I secretly dug. I've barely managed to isolate myself from the aura using ironware and talismans. Hurry up and go in, or it will be too late!"
Old Chen shouted at us and then crawled down first.
We were still hesitating when we discovered the distant horizon...
The sun in the sky seemed to be pulled down by an invisible giant hand, and its light dimmed and turned yellowish at a speed visible to the naked eye!
In an instant, the fairly bright afternoon suddenly transitioned directly into dusk.
In an instant, the three of us realized what was happening and, without hesitation, crawled towards the cave entrance.
