Luo Tianhe fell heavily backward.
Blood gushed from his neck like a burst dam, spreading across the ground.
My mind went blank for a moment, and all my thoughts stopped.
"No--"
I let out a heart-wrenching scream and stumbled to Luo Tianhe's side, my hands trembling as I tried to cover the wound on his neck.
But the blood kept gushing out from between my fingers, and I couldn't stop it.
"Luo Tianhe, wake up! Brother Luo!!"
In an instant, self-blame and guilt overwhelmed me like a surging tide.
Those painful images from the past kept flashing through my mind—
The desperate look in Xiao Mi's eyes when she died tragically;
The figure of Seventh Master;
The image of Yunwei setting herself on fire in front of me;
And the little girl's innocent and pure smile;
Grandma Sun's kind face...
Their voices, faces, and smiles flashed before my eyes.
Every scene was like a sharp knife, piercing my heart.
If it weren't for me, they wouldn't have died.
They all had wonderful lives, but now they have all died because of me.
"It's all my fault, it's all my fault..."
I muttered to myself, overwhelmed by pain that made me lose my mind, and I even had a suicidal impulse.
I picked up the stone stained with Luo Tianhe's blood from the ground with trembling hands, slowly raised my hand, and prepared to smash it hard against my temple.
All I want is to end it all, to end this life that brings endless calamity.
Just as I closed my eyes and was about to strike, I suddenly felt a hard kick to my back.
I lunged forward and crashed heavily to the ground, the stone in my hand flying away.
I turned around awkwardly, only to see Luo Tianhe standing right behind me, his face full of anger: "Are you fucking crazy!"
Behind Luo Tianhe, Jin Ye, Zeng Wei, and several villagers stared at me in a daze.
By then, it was already daylight, and the sunlight was shining on the earth, but I couldn't feel any warmth.
I stared at Luo Tianhe in astonishment, my heart filled with shock and confusion.
"You...you weren't dead? What happened?"
Jin Ye strode forward and handed me the wooden figure carved in the likeness of Luo Tianhe.
“He is not dead. Since the night before last, you have been bewitched. Someone deliberately set up a trap to lead you astray with this evil object.”
"Am I being bewitched? Luo Tianhe didn't come up the mountain with me?"
I looked at Master Jin, then at Luo Tianhe, my face filled with disbelief.
"What are you following?!"
Luo Tianhe lit a cigarette and shoved it into my mouth: "I was about to get up to go to the bathroom when I saw you walking out in a daze, talking to yourself like a madman."
"I called you but you didn't answer, so I quickly chased after you and even called Jin Ye and the others. I'll show you if you don't believe me!"
As he spoke, he hurriedly took out his phone, opened a video, and handed it to me.
I took the phone with trembling hands.
In the video, I had a blank stare and walked forward like a zombie, with one hand outstretched as if being pulled by someone. I kept talking to myself, looking very strange.
Luo Tianhe was so anxious that he kept stamping his feet, calling my name as he chased after me.
Seeing this scene, I felt a mix of emotions, both fear and disbelief.
Luo Tianhe patted my shoulder, his eyes slightly red.
"Old Chen, you're such a fucking brother! Even though you were out of your mind, you kept saying sorry to me, that you accidentally killed me, and that you wanted to commit suicide to be buried with me. Don't say anything more, from now on we're brothers!"
After hearing all this, I wished I could disappear into a crack in the ground.
But who exactly is pulling the strings behind all this?
Last time, this wooden figure almost killed me.
I never expected that they would actually track me down here.
Once the richest man?
It shouldn't be. If it were, I wouldn't be able to come back from Ruiwei Village long ago.
I shook my head, trying not to think about these random things, and looked at Zeng Wei instead.
"Didn't Fifth Master tell you to stay and watch over Suqin? Why did you come along?"
After these words were spoken, everyone fell silent.
My heart skipped a beat: "Has something happened to Suqin?"
Zeng Wei nodded: "Suqin is missing."
Gone?
My eyes widened in disbelief. I asked, "With so many of you, how could you not keep an eye on things? Was anyone injured?"
Zeng Wei shook his head and said that no one was injured. They were playing cards when they turned around halfway through the game and the person was gone without a sound.
When they went out to look for me, they saw Luo Tianhe following me. Seeing that I was somewhat delirious, he brought a few people with him.
Jin Ye also spoke up, saying, "Let's talk as we walk; the village is in complete chaos."
When I returned to the village, I saw almost all the male villagers carrying tools and walking around the village, looking for Suqin from house to house.
After Zeng Wei returned to the village, he also went with them to look for people.
Luo Tianhe and Jin Ye, having nothing better to do, also went to join in the fun.
I originally wanted to go together, but Master Jin told me to go back and feed the Gu worms blood, saying that 24 hours would be up soon.
If the process is interrupted, the Gu Master will know that the adult Gu has been eliminated by us, and then it will cause trouble if he drives the larvae in the three of us to grow rapidly.
Before leaving, they gave me a talisman.
It told me to carry it with me and stick it directly on its forehead if I encounter anything dirty.
Although we can't punish it, at least we can save its life.
As I walked down the street, my mind was filled with thoughts of who the person behind that wooden figure was and why they kept bothering me.
