Chapter 1542 Three Paths

I helped him up and began to think things through. There are really only a few ways to deal with this kind of situation:

The first step is to find the woman's body or clothing, perform a ritual to help her pass on and resolve her obsession.

Secondly, we need to find out the root of her obsession and find ways to satisfy or resolve it.

The third option is to take a direct, forceful approach: find someone with higher spiritual attainment or use a more powerful ritual implement to directly perform a ritual to help him pass on to the afterlife.

But it would be difficult for me to do that.

“Think carefully,” I said to Zhou Ming. “Besides wearing a red dress and having a pale face, what other characteristics did that woman have last night? Did she have an accent? Did she wear any conspicuous jewelry, such as a jade bracelet or a silver hairpin?”

Sometimes ghosts become fixated on personal belongings they had in life, and we might actually find clues in that regard.

Zhou Ming clutched his head, racking his brains. He knew this concerned his life; his mind was racing, practically steaming.

"Her accent told me she was a local, but a bit old-fashioned, not as flamboyant as younger people. As for the hairpin and such, the light was dim, so I couldn't see it clearly. I just remember that she had a red string on her wrist, or maybe a dark red bracelet, but I couldn't see it clearly. Oh, right, when she took the money, I glanced at her hand. Her nails were quite long, painted with dark red nail polish, but some of it was peeling off."

Zhou Ming went on and on about the details, but most of them were not very useful.

"Do you know anything about that ridge? Where exactly is it?" I looked at Zhou Ming. He had mentioned that place earlier and there was a big reaction, so he must know something.

Zhou Ming's expression changed, and he lowered his voice: "I know, I know. People with elderly relatives have probably heard about it. That place is very eerie. Decades ago, it was a mass grave, where nameless people who died violently by the roadside were buried. Later, the area was bulldozed for urban development, supposedly to be developed, but the developers ran into a series of accidents, and the project was abandoned. Now it's just a wasteland overgrown with weeds, and nobody dares to go there during the day!"

Nobody dares to go there during the day?

Although I knew Zhou Ming might be exaggerating, I still couldn't help but feel a little scared.

But to solve this, I have to go to that place.

“We have to go and see for ourselves,” I said. “Without going there in person, we won’t understand what this woman’s obsession is, and we won’t be able to solve your problem at its root.”

When Zhou Ming heard that I was going there, his face turned even paler, but for the sake of his own life, he could only grit his teeth and say, "Master, I know the way, I'll take you there!"

I glanced at him. This week, Ming actually showed some guts at a crucial moment.

"You don't need to go in there. Just wait for us outside. The three of us will go in and take a look."

I patted him on the shoulder to comfort him. Although he spoke in a steady and powerful voice, his legs were shaking like a leaf.

Then I turned to the repair shop owner and said, "Do you have any sturdy old clothes, something thick? And could you find me two powerful flashlights with full batteries?"

Old Zhang nodded. "I usually live here. Of course I have warm clothes, but I don't have a high-powered flashlight. However, I do have one of those big flashlights used for catching cicadas at night. Do you want one?"

I nodded and said, "That works too. Some of those things have even higher wattage than a high-powered flashlight."

Old Zhang went into the inner room and quickly brought out two slightly worn dark blue work jackets.

Although it was covered in greasy stains that hadn't been washed off, it was indeed very thick.

There were also two rather old-fashioned large flashlights, with heavy metal boxes, using large batteries, and the light was extremely bright.

This reminds me of catching cicadas in the village when I was a child. If I had this flashlight, I would definitely be the coolest kid at night.

Everything is ready, and we're about to head there.

Although Zhou Ming was still somewhat apprehensive, he had no other choice but to risk his life.

Of course, we wouldn't drive his car; we'd drive Luo Tianhe's minivan instead.

Once bitten, twice shy. Even though he had changed cars, Zhou Ming kept glancing at the rearview mirror, afraid that someone might suddenly appear in the back seat.

Sitting in the back, Li Huai and I got a little annoyed by his stare and couldn't help but say, "Big brother, why don't you sit in the back? If you take the ghost's spot, she can't show up again, right?"

At that moment, I regretted letting him sit in the passenger seat.

We had previously considered that he wasn't very familiar with us, it wouldn't be good for him to squeeze in with us, and it would be inconvenient for him to give directions, so we let him sit in the front passenger seat.

In retrospect, this was clearly a foolish decision.

Hearing me say that, Zhou Ming smiled awkwardly, trying his best to suppress the urge to look back.

Although the frequency has decreased, we are still watching. Fortunately, it's not too far from the ridge. We arrived at our destination after about half an hour's drive.

Luo Tianhe stopped the car and turned off the engine.

We all got out of the car. Zhou Ming, still sitting in the car, swallowed hard and looked at me:

"Master, I guess I don't need to go."

I nodded. "Just stay in the car and don't wander around. We should be back soon."

Luo Tianhe didn't remove the key, so that he could drive away if any unexpected situation arose.

Luo Tianhe and I got out of the car and walked deeper into the area. It was around 11 p.m., which is the time of day when the yin energy is at its strongest.

We couldn't help but feel a little uneasy, but we were already there.

"Didn't we agree before that I'd go to a bar and have some fun? Why do I feel like I've been busy the whole time?" Li Huai said, shining a flashlight on the road.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes and said irritably, "I have things to do, don't I? I can't just leave important business unattended and let you go have fun. How can you bear to watch me and Luo Tianhe face danger outside while you're enjoying yourself in a beautiful woman's arms?"

Li Huai chuckled: "Brother Yan, you know what, I'm really shameless!"

Even though he knew he was joking, Luo Tianhe couldn't help but give him a whack.

Li Huai immediately winced in pain, and the terrifying atmosphere dissipated considerably.

I know he was just trying to lighten the mood by being silly.

This place is less of a mass grave and more like an abandoned construction site.

That's right. Zhou Ming mentioned before that this area has been contracted out to a developer who wants to build a residential area.

However, due to various reasons, the developers ran away, and the site became a half-finished construction site.

I took out the compass again, and this time the needle didn't shake wildly like someone with Parkinson's disease, but pointed in a distant direction.

I looked over there and saw that it was almost the most complete three-story building, which was already more than half finished.

"Let's go take a look over there," I said in a low voice.

The three of us walked toward that building, and from a distance we could see a white wreath below.
