Chapter 139 Ghost Marriage

Around 11 p.m., Grandma Sun arrived.

He was carrying a large, bulging cloth bag on his back, and it was unclear what it contained.

One hand held a bamboo cage containing two majestic roosters.

With his other hand he was pulling a large black dog.

"Grandma Sun, you've finally arrived!" Xiao Mi's voice was tinged with urgency.

Grandma Sun nodded slightly, went inside, and placed the cloth bag on the table.

The black dog had been obediently following behind her, but when its gaze fell upon me, its gentle eyes instantly turned strange.

Suddenly, she broke free from the rope in Grandma Sun's hand and rushed towards me.

It stood up and easily placed its two front paws on my shoulders, even taller than me.

Its nose kept sniffing all over me, as if trying to identify my scent.

Grandma Sun frowned and called softly, "Little Black, come back!"

The black dog immediately ran back to Grandma Sun's feet, squatted down, and its eyes regained their docile look.

Grandma Sun glanced at me and Xiaomi and asked, "Have you both taken a bath?"

Xiaomi and I quickly nodded.

She told us to take a shower before she left.

"That's good. I can start once I put these two big roosters outside!"

As she spoke, Grandma Sun tied two large roosters with red rope, fixed them to a tree branch, and hung several bells on the red rope.

After securing the two roosters, Grandma Sun looked at Xiaomi and said, "Xiaomi, you'll have another ghost marriage later."

I looked on in surprise and blurted out, "Are you getting Xiaomi and that dirty thing together again?"

Grandma Sun shook her head and turned to me: "No, it's about getting you and Xiaomi married."

Upon hearing this, Xiaomi and I widened our eyes instantly, looked at each other, and were speechless for a moment.

Seeing this, Grandma Sun patiently explained.

"It's just a fake marriage. The purpose is to lure out that evil thing. It has identified Xiaomi as its mate. As long as you have a ghost marriage, it will be provoked and appear. Then I can take the opportunity to get rid of it."

After hearing these words, Xiaomi and I breathed a sigh of relief, and our tense emotions eased slightly.

"Let's not delay, let's prepare immediately."

As she spoke, Grandma Sun opened the cloth bag she had brought and grabbed a handful of lime powder to draw a huge Bagua (Eight Trigrams) pattern on the ground.

Then, a white candle was placed in each of the eight directions of the Bagua.

Then she took out two red wedding dresses, handed one to me and the other to Xiaomi.

"Put these on. These wedding clothes will help stabilize your yang energy and prevent the yin spirit from noticing them too early."

Xiaomi and I received the wedding attire, hesitated for a moment, and then slowly put it on.

This is the first time I've ever worn a wedding dress, and it looks a bit strange.

Seeing that we were all dressed, Grandma Sun took out two red ropes and tied them to my and Xiaomi's wrists respectively. A small copper bell was tied to the other end of the red ropes.

With everything prepared, Grandma Sun stood in the center of the Bagua formation, holding three sticks of incense in her hand. She bowed three times to the surroundings while chanting incantations.

"The day is auspicious and the time is right; heaven and earth open up."

"The newcomer is in place, listen to my words, though separated by life and death, the red thread still binds us."

"[The groom declares] [The bride announces], today we will hold our wedding ceremony."

"May our ancestors receive our offerings, and may the gods of the underworld bless this marriage. May this blessed union last forever, and may both the deceased and the living live in peace and prosperity."

After reciting the incense, Grandma Sun lit the incense and placed it directly in front of the Bagua formation.

I took out a piece of yellow paper and wrote my and Xiaomi's names on it.

"Grandma Sun, my plan is the one from the computer, not the Ji Xiaolan. Don't get it wrong," Xiaomi said.

“Of course I know!” Grandma Sun nodded.

Xiaomi stuck out her tongue sheepishly and explained in a low voice, "Because many people don't know that there is a surname 'Ji'."

After writing my and Xiaomi's names, Grandma Sun casually placed the mounting paper on the table, had Xiaomi and me stand facing each other in the Bagua formation, and gave us some instructions.

"When the ceremony begins, repeat after me."

After a pause, Old Mrs. Sun cleared her throat and continued to read aloud: "On this auspicious day, I [Chen Yan] and [Xiao Mi Ji Bai Xuan] are married, with Yin and Yang as our witnesses and Heaven and Earth as our witnesses."

Xiaomi and I repeated the same thing.

"I bow to Heaven and Earth, may blessings be with you forever!" Grandma Sun shouted loudly towards the door, holding incense.

Xiaomi and I quickly turned around, bowed deeply towards the door, our heads almost touching the ground.

As soon as we finished praying, a cold wind swept down our spines.

The flames of the candles lit around the perimeter suddenly shot up.

Xiaomi's body began to tremble violently.

I instinctively grasped her icy hands, trying to give her some strength.

"I bow twice to my parents, for their eternal grace will never be forgotten!"

We turned around and bowed again towards the high place.

Two chairs were placed next to the main hall, with a paper figure of a man and a woman sitting on them respectively.

As we performed our second prayer, the temperature inside seemed to drop even further, and a chill ran up our spines, making our bones ache.

Just as I was about to get up, a faint sobbing sound came from inside.

What was that sound?

Xiaomi was so frightened that she gripped my arm tightly, her nails almost digging into my flesh.

"Don't make a sound!" Old Mrs. Sun warned in a low voice, without looking to the side.

"Husband and wife bow to each other, their affection will last forever!"

Xiaomi and I were standing face to face, and just as I was about to bend down, the tables and chairs in the room suddenly made a creaking sound, as if they were being shaken wildly by an invisible hand.
