The enormous rat landed on its hind legs.
Its front paws curled slightly, and it slowly closed its eyes, sitting cross-legged like a human.
The cats that had been chasing after the big rat stopped abruptly the moment it came to a halt.
They all lowered their heads, their backs pressed slightly downwards, and then slowly arched upwards in an extremely slow manner.
This is not an offensive stance.
These cats are worshipping mice!
It's common knowledge that mice are afraid of cats, but there's no reason for a cat to worship a mouse!
"The snake embraces the moon, the cat worships the mouse!"
Jin grabbed my arm and hurriedly pulled me back, saying, "Quick, let's go! This rat has become powerful; we can't stay here!"
If we leave now, won't all our previous efforts be wasted?
Seeing that I was standing still, Uncle Jin pulled me hard in a hurry.
"If we don't leave now, it will be too late! Why do you think these cats are kneeling? Perhaps something is driving them away; they are seeking the protection of the rats!"
"Just like people, when they feel threatened, they subconsciously seek help from the stronger."
Perhaps sensing our gaze, the large rat slowly opened its eyes and glanced in our direction.
My heart skipped a beat.
Those eyes, they're exactly like a person's!
Then it slowly got up, with an arrogant air, and leisurely turned and left.
The cats remained in a worshipful posture until the giant rat's figure completely disappeared into the darkness, at which point they dispersed.
We had just climbed out of the courtyard wall when Luo Tianhe called.
"Come out quickly, Zeng, the richest man, is back!"
I told them we were already out.
Within minutes, the richest man's car stopped in front of Villa No. 3.
Before getting off the bus, he looked around cautiously, and only when he saw nothing unusual did he hurry inside.
I asked Luo Tianhe, "Didn't you say that the richest man Zeng would be back in a few hours? How come he's back so suddenly?"
Luo Tianhe shrank into the green belt, looking equally bewildered: "I don't know. My older brother said that Zeng, the richest man, suddenly called him halfway there, saying that something came up and he couldn't come."
Jin asked, half-closing his eyes, "Were we spotted by the surveillance cameras?"
"Impossible!" Luo Tianhe answered absolutely.
He then asked us suspiciously, "Why did you come out so quickly? Have you already succeeded?"
I said I encountered a cat-and-mouse combo inside.
"A cat worshipping a mouse? You've got it backwards." Luo Tianhe's mouth gaped open, thinking he had misheard.
"It's like a rat that has become a spirit!"
Seeing that Master Jin was explaining things to Luo Tianhe, I turned my head and continued to stare in the direction of the former richest man's villa.
Surprisingly, the former richest man didn't turn on the lights after entering the villa.
Is there a power outage?
Jin Ye explained with a solemn expression: "Any animal that wants to become a spirit needs to develop intelligence, cultivate its inner core, undergo a heavenly tribulation, and finally take human form. If there is any slight mistake, all previous efforts will be in vain."
"But just the chance to awaken spiritual intelligence is one in ten thousand."
"Most living beings spend their lives in ignorance, while only a very few are able to find an opportunity among countless chance occurrences."
"But this is in the city, unlike foxes and other creatures in the mountains that are more likely to come into contact with spiritual energy due to their superior environment. Yet, a rat has become a spirit. What does that mean?"
Luo Tianhe asked seriously, "Does that mean it's easier to cultivate in the city?"
Jin Ye's facial muscles twitched violently, but he could only suppress it because of Luo Tianhe's identity.
He took a deep breath to calm himself down before continuing.
"This proves that all our previous guesses were wrong. The richest man in Zeng was not raising ghosts; he was probably trying to prolong his life. Otherwise, he would never have such abundant spiritual energy."
Extending life?
Jin asked me in return, "Do you remember what Bai Su looked like when she died?"
I said I remember, she was wearing a red wedding dress, and died from having her throat pierced by golden scissors.
"Are you still wearing weights on your feet?"
"right!"
"Then that's it!"
Jin Ye looked in the direction of Villa No. 3 and sneered, "The red dress represents pure yang fire, and although the golden scissors are made of metal, they were given the attribute of water in ancient times."
“The weight is metal, the roof beam is wood, and the ground is earth. In this way, all five elements are present, which is exactly the Five Elements Formation.”
"By taking the soul under the Five Elements state, one can obtain a Yin soul of extreme Yang, whose purpose is to extend one's lifespan."
"If I'm not mistaken, Zeng, the richest man, is about to die!"
Killing his own daughter and causing the deaths of so many people, just to extend his own lifespan?
How utterly depraved must someone be to do something like this?
As they were talking, Zeng, the richest man, came out of the villa again.
However, I noticed that he had an extra half-meter-long wooden box in his hand.
Seeing how much effort he was putting into carrying it, I had no idea what was inside.
Seeing that Zeng, the richest man, was driving away again, I quickly asked Luo Tianhe to follow him in his car to see where he was going and to find out what was in his box.
I continued to infiltrate Zeng's home to search for Bai Su's body.
Jin said the wall was too high to climb over, so he'd better stay outside and keep watch for me.
As he spoke, he shoved the compass into my hand and instructed me, "Remember, now it's the opposite of before. You can't go in the direction with the heaviest yin energy. If the needle spins wildly, you have to back out no matter if you find it or not."
I gripped the compass tightly, took a running start, and flipped myself into the yard.
The big rat and the cat in the yard are gone; it's so quiet you can only hear my footsteps.
Logically speaking, with so many flowers and plants in the yard, there should be no insects, but I didn't hear a single insect chirping.
I glanced at the compass in my hand and noticed that it was pointing to the path to the right of the flowerbed.
