Bai Su?
Now, whenever I see a woman wearing a red dress, my first thought is Bai Su.
Perhaps noticing that I was staring into the car, Zeng Wei instinctively turned to block my view, and his smile became somewhat unnatural.
"The person in the car is my cousin."
Zeng Wei glanced briefly in the direction of the car and sighed softly.
"Because her parents were related by blood, she not only looks a little different from ordinary people, but she is also not very bright."
He paused for a moment, then added, "My cousin has always been a loner and a bit shy. She has to be with me everywhere she goes. Today, my aunt had something to do and couldn't leave, so she temporarily entrusted her to my care."
Jin nudged my arm with his elbow, leaned closer, and whispered in a voice only the two of us could hear, "Don't look, it's a person."
Hearing this, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
It's great to have Master Jin around; he can tell a person from a ghost at a glance.
I nodded to Zeng Wei's cousin as a greeting.
Her long hair covered her face, so her features were obscured and it was impossible to tell what she looked like.
"Why!"
Luo Tianhe grabbed Zeng Wei's neck and asked, "Brother, let me ask you something. Why do you all react so strongly when you hear the name Zeng Yonghua?"
Zeng Wei stared blankly at Luo Tianhe, then at Boss Jin, and gasped, "So Uncle Liu and the others were looking for you!"
"Who?" Luo Tianhe was taken aback.
Zeng Wei gave a bitter smile: "I received a call from Uncle Liu earlier, saying that Zeng Yonghua's men were here again, and that everyone should block the beginning and end of the village and call anyone they see! I was just about to go pick someone up, but I didn't expect that the people Uncle Liu wanted to arrest were you guys."
As he spoke, he opened the door of the van for us to see.
The last row of seats had been removed, and there were more than a dozen steel pipes and machetes inside.
There are also two Guan Gong knives (pig-slaughtering knives) that are nearly two meters long and connected by metal pipes.
I was completely stunned; it looked like a gangland shootout.
Luo Tianhe picked up a sharp machete and brandished it a couple of times, asking with a serious expression, "What exactly did you guys do with that Zeng guy? I just asked casually, and you're acting like you're going to kill him."
Zeng Wei glanced around in a panic and said quickly, "Brother Luo, this isn't the place to talk. Don't drive your car. Take my car and go to my house in the village. We'll talk when we get there."
"OK!"
Luo Tianhe didn't stand on ceremony and went inside.
Jinye and I got into the car.
As soon as I went inside, I smelled a strange odor. I couldn't quite describe it; it wasn't smelly, just a bit odd.
It's somewhat like the freshness of trees, and also like dried ink.
Jin Ye frowned slightly, but didn't say anything more.
Throughout the journey, Zeng Wei kept reminding us not to speak, and if someone suddenly got on the bus, to keep our heads down and not speak, and to try not to show our faces.
Zeng Wei was also quick-witted; several times when someone wanted to get on the bus, he made up an excuse to refuse.
After driving the car into the courtyard of a three-story villa and locking the gate, Zeng Weicai breathed a sigh of relief and told us to get out of the car quickly, as he still had to pretend to go out for a while.
Before leaving, he told us not to worry, saying that his parents were not around and that usually no one would come, as long as we didn't wander off.
Although Zeng Wei said we could go anywhere as long as we didn't leave the yard, the three of us stayed obediently in the yard.
It wasn't until dark that Zeng Wei returned, reeking of alcohol, carrying some food and two bottles of high-proof liquor.
As for his cousin, she didn't come along; she was probably taken home.
"Has no one eaten yet? The food is still warm!"
Zeng Wei hurriedly tidied up the table.
But at that moment, the three of us had no interest in eating. We asked him to explain what was going on.
Zeng Wei was probably drunk, as he was spitting as he spoke, repeatedly uttering "fuck his mother."
"Zeng Yonghua? Damn it, just mentioning those three words makes my teeth itch with hatred! Calling him a beast? That's an insult to beasts!"
Zeng Wei picked up a glass of baijiu, tilted his head back and drank it all in one gulp, then slammed the glass down on the table.
"In our village, which family hasn't been bullied by him?"
Zeng Wei became more and more agitated as he spoke: "Relying on his power, he bullied everyone in the village. Any young and strong man in the village who had any backbone to resist him was severely punished by his men."
“Even the respected old man in the village, who is in his seventies or eighties, had his leg broken by someone he sent just for saying a few fair words. The old man still walks with a limp to this day!”
As he spoke, Zeng Wei became increasingly agitated.
He suddenly rolled up his trouser leg, revealing a shocking and gruesome scar.
"Look at my leg, it was almost ruined! Just because I talked back to him a few times, he sent someone to pour a pot of boiling hot oil directly onto my leg. I was in so much pain that I fainted. If it had been any worse, I would have lost my leg!"
"And the young wife from the family at the end of the village."
Zeng Wei's voice trembled, and his face was full of grief and indignation.
"She was just pretty, but his men broke into her house and raped her in broad daylight. Later, the young woman couldn't take it anymore and committed suicide by jumping off a building. And guess what happened?"
Jin asked casually, "What's wrong?"
"Burn it! Take it straight to Qinglongshan Funeral Home and burn it!"
Upon hearing "Qinglongshan Funeral Home," both Grandpa Jin and Luo Tianhe turned to look at me.
"Old Chen, did you burn that young wife?"
"Yes, Xiao Chen, you're an embalmer, you haven't done makeup for people before, have you?"
