Chapter 1409 Tai Sui Soup

As the mournful sound of the suona horn rang out, the dishes began to be served one after another.

These are all dishes commonly found at large banquets: braised pork, stewed chicken, braised fish, and various stir-fried dishes.

It looked quite colorful and abundant, especially the large bowl of milky white, steaming meat soup in the middle, which had the most intense aroma.

But the familiar aroma made me feel nauseous; it was so similar to the soup made with human flesh last night.

They give us this kind of thing in broad daylight.

I suddenly realized that I had underestimated the village; I thought nothing too strange would happen during the day.

But who would have thought that they've already brought human flesh soup to the forefront? What else are they incapable of doing next?

Moreover, upon closer inspection of the dishes on the table, I discovered that it wasn't just the broth that was somewhat strange.

The braised pork in the dish had an obviously incorrect texture; it was too coarse.

The chicken feet of the stewed chicken were exceptionally thick and curved, just like human hands.

The most terrifying thing was the eyes of the grilled fish; they were a murky white, staring intently at us.

Upon closer inspection, none of the dishes on this table are edible!

My stomach churned violently. If Luo Tianhe hadn't already vomited, he probably would have crawled under the table to throw up by now.

"Come on, three guests, please don't be shy, start eating."

Just then, a familiar voice rang out. I looked up and saw that Wang Fugui had walked to our table at some point.

His face was beaming with a friendly smile, and at first glance, he seemed honest and simple.

But beneath that smile lay a hint of mockery and ridicule, as if we were his toys.

As he spoke, he actually picked up a spoon and ladled a large spoonful of that milky white human flesh soup into each of our bowls.

There was also a piece of meat in the soup, stewed until very tender. I could tell at a glance that the texture of that piece of meat was from a real person.

"Hehe, this is a specialty of our Blackwater Village, Tai Sui Soup, it's very nourishing, you can't buy it outside."

The soup smelled delicious, but the pieces of meat in the bowl were still trembling slightly.

My stomach churned. What kind of bullshit is this? This is clearly human flesh!

Although I had eaten human flesh before due to being misled by others, I simply couldn't bring myself to do it now that I knew it was human flesh.

"Thank you for your kindness, but we're not hungry yet."

I gritted my teeth and forced out those words to decline.

Wang Fugui's face immediately darkened. Although he was still smiling, his smile was exceptionally cold and piercing.

“Guest, you’re not giving me face. It’s the custom in Blackwater Village that once you’re on the table, you have to eat, especially this Tai Sui soup, which is offered to the deceased. If you don’t drink it, how can Li Laosi rest in peace!”

As soon as he finished speaking, I involuntarily clenched my fist.

I thought that as long as we came to the funeral, he wouldn't be too harsh on us.

Unexpectedly, they even forced us to eat this soup made from human flesh!

Luo Tianhe and Li Huai, standing to the side, were breathing rapidly. I could already see that Luo Tianhe had reached into his clothes and was gripping the extendable baton, ready to strike at any moment.

I noticed that all the villagers around us turned their heads at once, staring at us with their dead fish-like eyes, and an invisible pressure descended upon us once again.

My heart was pounding.

If the three of us were to fight, we'd probably end up in a terrible state.

At least we need to get them to relax now and stop staring at us so intently!

I could only take a deep breath, pick up the bowl, and bring it to my lips.

Seeing that I seemed about to drink, both Luo Tianhe and Li Huai showed a hint of nervousness on their faces.

He reached out his hand to me, trying to stop me.

I quietly nudged Luo Tianhe and Li Huai under the table, signaling them not to make any rash moves.

Seeing that I seemed to want to drink it, Wang Fugui immediately smiled. The steaming soup and the rising heat made my face feel hot.

Just as the stalemate was at hand, I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of a thin old villager sitting opposite me silently picking up a piece of braised pork and mechanically chewing it in his mouth.

A little bit of dark red juice slowly seeped from the corner of his mouth.

It doesn't look like soy sauce; it looks more like congealed blood. Could it be that this braised pork wasn't cooked through at all?!

But the villager seemed completely oblivious, eating with his mouth full of blood.

What's even more chilling is that a middle-aged woman next to me was sipping the Tai Sui soup, a look of extreme satisfaction on her face.

Even his body seemed to be trembling slightly, unable to stop it.

This guy isn't eating, he's like he's on drugs.

"Eat up, why aren't you eating yet!?"

Wang Fugui urged, his voice filled with obvious urgency.

Hearing his urging, I became even more certain that I absolutely could not drink the soup.

I gritted my teeth, preparing to risk throwing the soup away or trying to cover it up, when suddenly...

"puff!"

A young villager sitting diagonally opposite me, who had been keeping his head down, suddenly trembled.

Then he opened his mouth and spat out a mouthful of thick, dark red liquid, which landed directly on the table.

The juices splattered everywhere, and almost none of the dishes escaped unscathed.

The liquid emitted a strong, fishy stench, and was mixed with undigested wriggling maggots and thick, yellow pus.

The young man raised his head, his face devoid of any expression of pain, appearing utterly empty.

Is this the consequence of eating these things? My heart tightened involuntarily, as if someone were squeezing it.

There was still disgusting blood and filth at the corner of his mouth, and I could even see maggots wriggling between his lips and teeth.

Upon seeing clearly, both Luo Tianhe and Li Huai simultaneously gagged.

Luo Tianhe desperately tried to vomit, as if vomiting would make him feel a little better.

However, he only vomited some acidic fluid. He hadn't eaten anything all day, so Luo Tianhe really couldn't vomit anymore.

Wang Fugui's face instantly turned extremely ugly. He first glared fiercely at the villager who had vomited, then abruptly turned his head, staring intently at me, and almost roared:

"drink!"

He reached out and tried to press down on my bowl, forcing me to drink it down my throat.

"Get out of my way!"

I flung the bowl away forcefully, stood up, and looked at him.

"Didn't you see that guy throw up? It was disgusting! How can I have an appetite?!"

"You say that stuff is disgusting? Isn't that what we eat all the time?"

Wang Fugui stared straight at me and spoke slowly and deliberately.

I froze on the spot.

I originally intended to use this as an opportunity to make trouble, but since he said that, it made me seem a bit unreasonable.

He picked up the bowl from the ground, and my pupils contracted. There was still some soup left in the bowl!
