Stealing ashes to sell for money?
Upon hearing his words, I froze on the spot.
Who would want ashes?
Suddenly, a thought popped into my head, and I asked in a trembling voice:
"You stole someone's ashes and then sold them to their enemy?"
Aside from the ashes' owner's enemies, I can't think of anyone else who would buy ashes.
But what kind of hatred would drive someone to hire others to steal ashes and scatter them after a person has died and been burned to ashes?
"no."
Old Chen shook his head, denying my guess.
"Just tell me the reason, why are you keeping me in suspense?"
Seeing his indecisive manner, I couldn't help but curse him.
My impression of Lao Chen couldn't be worse. This guy is capable of doing something as heinous as stealing human ashes. It's a shame that I thought he seemed quite honest when I first met him.
Seeing that I was quite angry, Old Chen stammered out the truth:
“I stole the ashes and called their family, threatening them that if they didn’t give me money, I would flush the ashes down the toilet.”
My eyes widened in disbelief. Old Chen really has a business mind; he's playing it brilliantly!
If you have someone else's family's ashes in your hands and don't want your own family's ashes flushed down the toilet, you have no choice but to obediently pay up.
I put myself in his shoes. If he had stolen my grandfather's ashes and threatened me like this, I would definitely have given him the money, but afterwards, I would have done everything in my power to get revenge on him!
If I can ensure he has a peaceful life for the rest of his days, I will rewrite my name Chen Yan backwards!
“Master Chen, I only steal the ashes from the families of those with bad reputations who are rich. I know that this kind of thing is immoral and immoral, so I try my best to select the less despicable ones.”
Seeing my anger, Old Chen, perhaps afraid I would ignore him, or perhaps simply afraid I would misunderstand, hurriedly explained.
I glanced at him sideways and snorted coldly:
"I'm afraid the main reason is that poor people can't be squeezed out of anything. Only wealthy families can come up with a large sum of money at once. Even if ordinary families really want to buy back ashes, they can't afford to spend too much money."
Old Chen waved his hands repeatedly, looking at me earnestly:
“Master Chen, I absolutely did not lie to you about this matter. I am poor myself and know how difficult it is for poor people. I would never harm them!”
He didn't seem like he was lying, but I was too lazy to meddle, so I got straight to the point:
"Tell me, did you encounter a ghost?"
Upon hearing this, Old Chen's face showed a look of horror, and he hurriedly nodded: "Master Chen, you are right, I did indeed encounter a ghost."
At this point, Old Chen stopped stammering. He seemed still somewhat shaken as he recounted the story to me:
"I first found a pretty expensive cemetery. People who can afford to be buried there are among the wealthiest."
“In one night, I dug up five graves, and then, based on the epitaphs and some information found online, I found the phone numbers of their families.”
“Three families readily paid me to redeem their family member’s ashes. But one family didn’t care at all whether the ashes would be flushed down the toilet. They even said, ‘Flush them if you want, it’ll save us the trouble of visiting the grave.’”
Hearing this, I was somewhat shocked; I couldn't believe there were such people.
It can only be said that some rich people are indeed inhumane, no wonder Luo Tianhe and Lao Chen despise them.
Then, Old Chen continued his story.
"Lastly, when I contacted them, their response was also that they disagreed with spending a lot of money to buy back the ashes. I was very angry at the time and was prepared to flush the ashes down the toilet! Anyway, their family doesn't care, so why should I be afraid?"
At this point, Old Chen's eyes turned a little red. I noticed that Old Chen seemed to be a bit mentally unstable, too paranoid.
Since they've said that, there's no way we'll get the money back. We might as well just throw the ashes back to them.
Old Chen actually dared to flush the ashes down the toilet.
He paused, then picked up the water on the table and took a sip, wanting to moisten his somewhat dry lips.
"Ouch, it's so hot!"
Old Chen suddenly exclaimed and spat out the water in his mouth.
I looked at him strangely. The water wasn't even steaming anymore, so how hot could it be?
Old Chen put down his cup, not paying much attention to the little incident, and continued:
"As a result, in the evening, a man called me and said he wanted to buy back the ashes of the family I had met that morning, but I had already flushed the ashes down the toilet, and who knows where they are now. Maybe they've even flowed into the Atlantic Ocean."
“I was a little upset at the time and was going to tell him the truth, but then I thought, why not just find something to replace ashes? Why not take the money I have? So I found some powder that looks like ashes and put it into his urn.”
"This boss was very stubborn. He said he would rather give me more money and make the transaction in person. I was a little confused at the time, but he was giving me so much money that I went to the place he gave me to make the transaction in person. It was a shop in a somewhat secluded alley."
At this point, a clear look of regret appeared on Old Chen's face.
I don't need to hear the rest of the story; Old Chen must have encountered a ghost here.
Sure enough, Old Chen then said nervously:
"There was no one in that shop. I was carrying the urn and wandering around when I suddenly realized that someone seemed to be watching me from behind. I turned around and saw an old man in black clothes staring at me."
"I was a little confused at the time. How could this old man appear behind me without making a sound? And I felt that he looked familiar, but I couldn't remember where I had seen him before."
I rolled my eyes and said to Old Chen, "The reason that old man could suddenly appear behind you is naturally because he's a ghost."
And the reason you recognize him is probably because this old man is buying his own ashes.
When you were researching before, you must have seen the old man's photo, but you just didn't immediately connect it to that aspect.
Old Chen nodded repeatedly and continued:
"I never expected this. I handed him the urn and took his money. He seemed quite happy when he took the urn. But then he opened it, glanced at it, and his expression changed drastically. He stared at me intently and said..."
"These aren't my ashes at all!"
I can imagine Old Chen's reaction when he heard that.
It was like going from heaven to hell.
He had just received the money and was probably still overjoyed when he suddenly realized that the person he was trading with was a ghost!
"I was terrified, afraid that the ghost would attack me, but it looked at me for a while and then suddenly disappeared."
