Is it getting a little late?
What's the meaning?
I didn't react for a moment.
Suddenly the driver turned his head. The driver, who had been normal just moments before, was now covered in blood and had a large dent in his head.
To my surprise, I discovered that the master's upper and lower body were not connected; his intestines were hanging out, some even dangling over his crotch.
I swallowed hard. I'd been through so much today that I wasn't paying much attention, and I didn't even realize I was on a ghost bus at first.
Luo Tianhe and Li Huai huddled together in the back seat, shivering. The taxi, which had been perfectly fine just moments before, was now a wrecked mess, with not a single window intact, and cold wind howling in.
"Master, what's going on?"
The driver continued driving, even waiting at red lights.
"I dropped you off, and we hadn't driven far when I heard a girl call my name."
"I turned my head and saw a girl pressed against the car window saying she needed to hail a taxi."
"But at that time, I was going at least 80 miles per hour!"
"I was terrified at the time, and with a shudder, the accident happened."
As the red light ended, the driver skillfully shifted gears, completely oblivious to the bloody, steaming intestines tangled on the gearshift.
I swallowed hard. "Master, if you have any unfulfilled wishes, we will try our best to fulfill them."
"My wish is that my daughter can go to university healthy and get into college."
The master murmured.
"I don't blame you for this. You are good people. If possible, I hope you can call the police for me. My body is still not far from Anning Girls' High School."
"Call the police right now, sir! We'll take care of your daughter for you. I'll even cover her tuition and living expenses!"
Luo Tianhe trembled as he took out his phone to call the police.
"Thank you, I'm relieved."
The taxi driver seemed satisfied. After Luo Tianhe called the police, we arrived in the city.
"Get off, this is the only way I can take you."
We got out of the car, and in the blink of an eye, the taxi and the driver had vanished.
"I told you I'd have my younger brother pick you up, but you insisted on taking a taxi. Now look what happened!"
Luo Tianhe complained. I opened my phone and found that no one was accepting the orders; they were still hanging there.
I canceled the order, not wanting to tolerate Luo Tianhe's bad temper. I forced a smile and said:
"Although we didn't kill the driver, he wouldn't have gone to Anning Girls' High School if it weren't for us, so we've formed a karmic bond with him."
"If we don't settle our score with him today, do you think he'll come looking for you?"
Luo Tianhe rubbed the goosebumps off his body and retorted defiantly:
"Why are you looking for me? You were the one who took the taxi."
"I do have some skills, but Li Huai's situation is rather special. Do you think Master will pick on the weak?"
I interrupted him and said quickly:
"You should be happy that you've settled the matter. Stop dawdling. Also, don't forget what you promised him. His daughter's college admission depends on you."
"I understand, I understand. I'll have someone keep an eye on it."
After saying that, Luo Tianhe took out his phone and dialed his younger brother's number.
A short while later, a black van stopped in front of us.
The young man who came to pick us up was skinny and had a buzz cut.
"Why did you bring this van again? You all know where my car keys are."
After getting into the car, Luo Tianhe patted the seat, feeling that this car wasn't as comfortable as his black Mercedes-Benz G-Class, so he asked.
His younger brother smiled shyly upon hearing this.
"Boss, your car is so expensive, I'm worried that I might accidentally scratch it again."
"A scratch is fine, just touch up the paint, as long as it doesn't total the car."
Luo Tianhe patted his younger brother on the shoulder.
Although this guy doesn't do anything legitimate, he's really good to his underlings, no doubt about it.
That's why he has so many loyal subordinates; true loyalty is reciprocated.
Luo Tianhe first took me home.
Before getting off the bus, I realized I had overlooked something, so I turned around and asked:
"By the way, where does Li Huai live now?"
"Where else can he stay? This kid doesn't even have an ID card, so he can't rent a place or anything. I can only let him stay at my place for now."
Luo Tianhe waved his hand, rolled up the car window, and the black van disappeared into the night.
When I got home and opened the door, the hanged ghost seemed to be frightened by the evil aura emanating from me and didn't show itself.
After a quick wash, I lay down on the bed and soon fell into a deep sleep.
The next day, I was woken up by a phone call from Luo Tianhe. I pressed the speakerphone button.
With his eyes closed, he asked, "Why are you disturbing my peaceful sleep so early in the morning?"
"What do you want to do? Our funeral home is about to open. Do you think we need to buy some firecrackers or something?"
Luo Tianhe's excited voice came from the other end of the phone.
"No, do you think this is a wedding? You'd be buying firecrackers and stuff. For a funeral home like ours opening, we should keep it low-key. Just spread the word about the opening privately."
I rolled over, then suddenly realized something was wrong and quickly sat up:
"Wait a minute, weren't we supposed to find a suitable day to open the shop? I remember today..."
"I checked, today is an auspicious day for opening a shop! What's wrong with you? You didn't sleep for two days straight, did you?"
I scrolled to the calendar on my phone and realized it was Tuesday. I slept all Monday!
"It's true, I just opened my eyes and it's already Tuesday."
"I was wondering why you didn't reply to my texts. I thought you just forgot to reply."
Luo Tianhe continued rambling. I tapped my head. Wait a minute, even if I was really tired on Sunday, it shouldn't have been enough to make me sleep for two days straight.
It must be related to Baiyin!
I rubbed my face and found it was ice-cold, so I rushed to the bathroom to look in the mirror.
Sure enough, a thin, bluish-purple handprint appeared on my faceāit was from being pinched by a ghost!
My face immediately turned pale. The bruise from being pinched by a ghost didn't look much different from a regular bruise, but it healed extremely slowly.
Even if you don't perform a proper rites to help the spirits pass on, the lingering yin energy left behind will never disappear.
No wonder I slept for so long!
"Luo Tianhe, I have something to do, so I'll hang up now. I'll call you back later."
After hanging up the phone, I started rummaging through drawers and cupboards at home.
I quickly found some glutinous rice and rubbed it hard on my face, hoping to make the marks disappear. But after working on it for a long time, the marks didn't even fade much, let alone disappear!
Damn it!
I didn't believe in superstitions, so I tried to cover up the bruises on my face to avoid scaring people.
Then, without stopping, I went to the market and bought a lively, energetic rooster.
I put some rooster blood on the bald spot, hoping it would fade away slowly, but it didn't work at all!
I then tried every method I could think of, but none of them could resolve the bruising on my face.
