Chapter 782 The Sinking Compass House

Just as I was getting a little impatient, the air was filled with an even stronger smell of the sea.

Although the smell wasn't as strong as the previous scabies mites, it had a faint smell of rotting wood mixed in.

It's like wood that's been soaked for a long time and has rotted away.

Aside from the fact that there's more sunshine here, I couldn't find a better place than that border crossing.

Walking in a place like this, I'm afraid there might be a rotting corpse lying around me.

It was far too quiet. I asked the Thunder Strike Sword in my mind.

Like me, he clearly felt that the sound of the waves was getting quieter and quieter.

The surrounding water flow was basically stagnant, making it feel like you were in an aquarium, but the surroundings were deathly quiet.

Now that I think about it, it's kind of creepy to be in an ocean park with no one around!

As more and more stone slabs appeared around us, I approached Yiyi and slowly said:

"Is this place getting further and further away from the safe zone?"

Yi Yi, with a slight smile, spoke casually.

"Brother, it is precisely in this kind of environment that we are getting closer and closer to the shallow level."

I was a little confused.

Isn't this obviously getting weirder and weirder?

It was our hushed conversation that attracted the attention of the blue-armored man a few steps away.

"What are you two discussing? We've arrived."

With a crisp sound, Blue Armor, just like the protagonist, stopped in front of the door and stepped aside to show us.

That's when I realized that there was a house embedded next to the reef in front of me.

"Didn't you say before..."

"Oh, now that things have come to this, I won't hide it from you two anymore. The people who frequent this place are all sorts of people, and I didn't tell you the truth at first because I was wary. But right now, this is my hiding place, the Sunken Compass House."

I glanced over casually and then saw the whole house.

The roof of the stone house is particularly interesting, covered with a lot of dried seaweed.

Behind me, the seaweed was a vibrant, thriving patch, creating a stark contrast with what was above.

However, the walls of the house had many holes drilled in them, which looked like human eyes that had been gouged out.

A warm yellow light shone through the hole, making it look much brighter than the outside.

However, I felt a strange and inexplicable sense of unease.

The light had a stiff warmth, unlike firelight or the kind of lamplight found on land.

To put it bluntly, this is giving me the creeps.

It looked like some kind of living thing was glowing!

Not only that, there were also two strings of things hanging at the entrance of the stone house. It wasn't until Yiyi and I took two steps forward that we could see clearly that they were dried scabies mites' shells!

The scabies worms here are even smaller than those we usually see!

Although I've never seen it, I guess it's like a newborn infant!

The barbs on the sea scabies worm's exoskeleton still gleamed with a cold light, and the seawater, which had been still for a long time, suddenly surged forth.

The insect's exoskeleton clanged and clattered.

The sound was like bones being struck in water.

"The current outside is strong, so please come in first."

As he spoke, Lan Jia pushed open the door with one hand; the wooden door creaked open...

Yiyi and I almost simultaneously made an expression of unbearable discomfort.

"Brother, is this really safe? This smell..."

Yiyi spoke in a low voice.

And I, too, found the stench unbearable:

"Since we're already here, let's just make the best of it. What's this guy up to? At worst, we'll wipe out his entire operation!"

I transmitted my voice to Lei Jijian, who was already itching for a fight.

"I knew this guy was no good all along, Master! I'm at your beck and call! The smell of death in this place is probably coming from under the stone slabs!"

With a furrowed brow, I tentatively entered the house with Yiyi.

Upon entering the stone house, an even more repulsive smell hits you.

I can't quite describe it, but it smells a bit like a rotting corpse, or maybe it's because we've lived here for too long and haven't cleaned it.

But I can't be sure, because in a place like this, he probably doesn't get many visitors.

If it really is just a simple hygiene issue, then I might have wrongly accused him.

Just as I guessed, the light inside the blue-armored house wasn't from fire, but from a mineral.

The light was unevenly distributed in the room, casting the entire wall in shifting light and shadow. The place wasn't large, making it feel somewhat oppressive.

After taking a closer look, both Yiyi and I were rather uneasy.

In the shadows of those distant corners, there did indeed seem to be something I couldn't see clearly.

The shadow flickered occasionally, its outline resembling that of a person curled up.

Blue Armor slowly turned around, and I suddenly noticed that his short coat was tinged with a dark purple light under the mineral's glow.

And the waves at the hem of his clothes, in this environment, seemed to be wriggling little by little.

Holy crap?

I could hardly believe my eyes, but after rubbing it, it seemed to stop moving again.

Could it be a hallucination?

"Please sit down! Find somewhere yourself!"

Lan Jia pointed to the stone bench in the center of the room, then spread his arms and looked around.

Yiyi and I moved somewhat awkwardly, one step at a time. The surface of the stool was very smooth, but there were some strange patterns engraved on the legs.

Or rather, it can't even be described as a pattern.

It was actually a very strange bump.

It's like when you bump into something during a fight.

Once inside the room, Lan Jia's tone remained very polite, but his actions seemed to lack the fluidity he displayed when they first met outside.

I don't quite understand. Shouldn't this have been more natural? After all, this is his own home.

I do think his movements have a slightly mechanical quality.

Immediately afterwards, he started moving toward the kitchen to find us some food, but the moment he raised his hand, I heard a cracking sound from his elbow.

I caught it in that one moment.

"Lightning Strike Sword, get ready."

"Anytime."

I fixed my gaze on the blue-armored man's arm, and he turned around quite naturally, giving us an awkward smile.

"Hehe, don't mind it, it's an old problem."

This happened quite naturally, but I clearly saw him quickly glance at Yiyi's pocket after he finished speaking.

Then he quickly looked away, pretending nothing had happened.

It felt like sneaking a peek.

Seeing that Lan Jia had walked away a few steps, Yi Yi, who was next to me, nudged me twice.

Immediately afterwards, I heard Yiyi swallow.

“Brother, this house... has no windows.”
