Has Su Mingyang come to the county town?
I asked, "Why are you here? Didn't I tell you to go and get close to Xiao He?"
"Tell me your location first, and we'll talk when we get there," Su Mingyang said urgently.
"Take a taxi to Bincheng University... to Xingfuli Community, I'll wait for you at the entrance."
...
Half an hour later, Su Mingyang jumped out of the taxi.
His hair was messy, his face had some bruises, and his clothes were covered in mud and footprints, so it looked like he had been in a fight.
I joked, "You didn't get caught by Xiao He's boyfriend, did you run here to take refuge?"
"It's good that her boyfriend found out! At most, we'll have a fight. You have no idea I was almost buried alive by Zeng, the richest man's men, last night."
I hurriedly asked him what had happened.
Su Mingyang took a deep drag on his cigarette: "The richest man's men said this is just a warning. If they continue to investigate Bai Su's affairs, they'll have us drowned!"
How did Zeng, the richest man in China, know that we were investigating Bai Su?
I asked Su Mingyang if Xiao He had let it slip.
Su Mingyang said it was impossible; she and Xiao He were just about to have a further conversation when those people rushed in.
Without saying a word, they beat him up, and Xiao He was also slapped a few times.
If Xiao He really did snitch, why would she bring up Bai Su's shameful deeds to show off?
It's obvious that Xiao He also hates Bai Su.
I fell into deep thought. If it wasn't Xiao He who tipped me off, then who was it?
Could it be Master Jin?
I asked, "How is Master Jin?"
Su Mingyang sighed: "Don't mention that old bastard. The Rebirth Pavilion was smashed. If it weren't for his age and the stitches in his head, he probably would have gotten a beating."
Strange, besides Master Jin and Fairy Huang, only Sister Wu knows that we are investigating Bai Su.
I haven't been able to contact Sister Wu since that night. Could she have been arrested by Zeng the richest man's men?
"Old Chen, should we continue the investigation?" Su Mingyang asked worriedly.
I said, "Investigate? Of course we'll investigate! Have you forgotten what Master Jin said? If we can't help Bai Su within seven days, we'll have to go down and join her!"
"Can……"
I interrupted Su Mingyang: "But I'll investigate myself, you don't need to."
Su Mingyang's eyes widened, and veins bulged on his forehead.
"What do you mean by that? Are you saying I'm a coward? I'm only afraid of ghosts, I've never been afraid of people. If the other side hadn't outnumbered us and had weapons, we don't know who would have won or lost."
I patted him on the shoulder: "I know you're loyal, but now is not the time to be loyal. We can't fight them. You still have your family, but I'm all alone. I have nothing to lose."
Upon hearing this, Su Mingyang immediately fell silent, lowering his head and silently smoking.
After a long silence, he swore and threw the cigarette butt on the ground, stomping it out.
"You said it yourself, if I can't help Bai Su within seven days, I'll go down and be with her. If I really die, my mother won't be saved either. Since I'm going to die anyway, I might as well take a chance."
I tried to persuade him a few more times, but seeing that Su Mingyang insisted, I stopped trying.
That's just his personality; once he's made up his mind, nothing can change it. Even if I tell him not to investigate, he'll still do it secretly.
I made a phone call to Mr. Jin.
We didn't say much on the phone; Jin just wished us all the best.
From what I could tell, he didn't want to get involved, so I didn't force him.
He's not related to us at all, so there's no need for us to get involved.
However, the threat from the former richest man, coupled with the loss of Mr. Jin's help, has made our progress even more difficult.
...
After having a cigarette, Su Mingyang and I went to Uncle Niu's house again.
I've prepared for the worst; I'll pry open Uncle Niu's mouth if I have to.
As long as I lack morality, no one can condemn me.
If you're dead, what's the point of morality?
As soon as I reached the stairwell, I heard the sounds of things being smashed and a child crying coming from Niu Hongsheng's house.
The door was half-open.
The room was in complete disarray, with tables and chairs overturned and food spilled all over the floor.
"Don't give me that nonsense. Do you think you don't have to pay compensation just because your son died? Do you think we're a charity? If you don't pay back the money, I'll send you down to the underworld to reunite with your son today."
Uncle Niu was grabbed by the collar and lifted up by a thug wearing a vest and covered in tattoos.
There was also a red-haired girl with a small braid standing next to her.
Uncle Niu's face flushed with anger: "I've already severed ties with him. If you're so capable, go down there and ask him to pay me back!"
The tattooed man slapped Uncle Niu across the face: "You old bastard, you're still pretty stubborn."
As he spoke, he winked at his red-haired companion beside him.
The redhead immediately understood and picked up the crying Xiao Shun.
Seeing this, Uncle Niu struggled even more fiercely: "Put him down! You beasts, let go of my grandson!"
Xiao Shun struggled desperately in the red-haired man's arms, waving his hands wildly in the air, and accidentally hit the red-haired man's face.
But this completely enraged the redhead, who raised his hand as if to strike.
"I'll fuck your mother!"
Su Mingyang couldn't hold back and kicked the red-haired man in the stomach.
I sighed helplessly and went to help Uncle Niu up.
When he saw it was me, Uncle Niu's expression instantly became somewhat complicated.
The three thugs were probably intimidated by Su Mingyang's imposing presence, and for a moment they didn't dare to make a move.
After a moment, the tattooed man finally realized what was happening and pointed at Su Mingyang, yelling, "Who the hell are you?!"
"I am your father!"
Su Mingyang spat: "Three grown men bullying an old man and a child, what kind of bully are you? If you've got the guts, come at me."
