The lightning sword shot out of the crack like a bolt of lightning, instantly attracting the attention of the ancients.
He quickly chased after the direction in which Lei Jijian had fled, making a teeth-grinding crunching sound as he walked.
A bitter smile crept onto my lips as I thought to myself, trying to find humor in the situation:
People might exaggerate when they say old bones are rusty, but this guy is probably really rusty!
"Brother, let's hurry up and not waste the opportunity that Lei Jijian has given us."
The girl's tone was somewhat anxious.
I nodded, crawled out of my hiding place, and ran wildly toward the stone platform with her in my arms.
Before long, the Thunderstrike Sword returned as a streak of light, its blade swaying left and right in the air, seemingly pleased with itself.
"Master, I've already shaken them off; they definitely won't be able to catch up anytime soon!"
Hearing Lei Jijian's words, I immediately breathed a sigh of relief. That ancient person was so strange; I didn't want to face him.
Suddenly, the world went completely dark, followed by a tremendous roar.
"What's going on? Did the sky collapse or was there an earthquake? I can't see anything!"
I spoke urgently, but there was no response.
The sudden change left me somewhat bewildered, and I instinctively grabbed the girl beside me, wanting to help her escape.
But the next moment, I suddenly stepped back and swung my hand.
Although I couldn't see anything, at the moment darkness fell, I was 100% certain that the girl was standing there!
The sensation I just felt was slippery and disgusting, like a long-rotten corpse. The reason I shook my hand was to get rid of the wriggling thing on my hand, which I didn't know was maggots or something else.
"No, Master, this is definitely not just simple darkness. You have the Heavenly Eye!"
The sound of lightning striking the sword echoed in my mind. I knew without looking in a mirror that I must be deathly pale at that moment!
That's right, I have the third eye, how could I not see anything at all?!
And where did the girl go, and what was standing where she was standing?
Even amidst the deafening roar, I could almost hear my own heart pounding like a drum. If it really was an earthquake, then forget about demons and monsters, even a giant rock could take my life!
"Hehehe~ You've finally arrived."
Suddenly, a sharp, chilling laugh rang out, like the sound of metal scraping against a blackboard, which sent shivers down my spine. What puzzled me even more was her words.
She seemed to know me?
But that's impossible! This is definitely my first time here!
"Chen Bazhong, long time no see. You've really gotten worse with age. Are you here to fulfill a promise or to die?!"
Perhaps seeing my blank expression, his voice became even colder, with a hint of resentment.
"Who are you? How do you know my grandfather?! And what promise did you make?"
I bombarded him with questions like a machine gun, racking my brains, and in a flash, I felt I had guessed the truth!
This female ghost probably mistook me for my grandfather, since this isn't the first time this has happened.
As for the promise, it's probably to help her exorcise her enemies.
My lack of skill led her to believe that my grandfather's abilities had declined and he couldn't help her, hence her resentful tone.
"Your grandfather?"
The shrill voice seemed somewhat surprised. The next moment, I felt as if I had fallen into an ice cave. My hands and feet instantly turned icy cold, and my body began to tremble uncontrollably.
She came up to me!
I gripped the Thunderstrike Sword tightly, ready to retaliate at any moment. Although she seemed to be an old acquaintance of my grandfather, who knew what the ghost might do!
But before I could do anything, I was tightly wrapped up and unable to move.
Having worked as an embalmer for so many years, I immediately recognized what was wrapped around me.
A woman's hair!
Not only that, the hair slithered across my body like snakes, especially my face, making it difficult for me to breathe.
Is this female ghost trying to harm me?
"How did you end up here? Where's your grandfather? Why didn't he come?!"
I pulled my hair back and took a deep breath of fresh air, feeling a sense of relief, as if I had just escaped a disaster.
If that female ghost had tried to kill me, I would have died a hundred times over!
Seeing that she didn't seem to have any ill intentions towards me, I didn't want to hide anything from her.
"My grandfather is dead!"
At this point, my mind was completely blank. My coming here had nothing to do with my grandfather, so how could I have coincidentally run into an "old acquaintance" with whom my grandfather had made a promise?
Was all of this arranged by Grandpa?
But he's been dead for so many years! No matter how brilliant one's calculations are, one couldn't possibly foresee things so many years after death.
"Dead?"
She scoffed.
Suddenly, my head throbbed with pain, and my consciousness began to cloud. In the last second before I lost consciousness, I was able to see her face clearly.
The bright red traditional Chinese wedding dress looked like a huge, still-uncured scab in the darkness.
The silk fabric, which should have been smooth, was now soaked with dark brown stains, clinging tightly to her swollen body.
The most bizarre thing is the phoenix embroidered with gold thread. The pattern is distorted, and the silk thread at the phoenix's eyes is broken, as if its eyes have been gouged out.
I couldn’t see her face because she was still covered by a red veil that looked like it had been soaked in blood and then dried!
I remembered my grandfather mentioning:
In the ghost bride, the one with the most resentment is the one whose veil has never been lifted. Her life should have ended at the most beautiful time, and the huge contrast between heaven and hell will nurture the deepest resentment!
"Gather enough resentment, return here, and fulfill your grandfather's promise!"
Like a sinister voice from hell, it was the last straw that broke the camel's back. I finally couldn't hold on any longer and fainted.
When I woke up, I found myself having left the mountain villa and appeared in a mass grave.
The area is filled with tombstones of varying heights, and some tombs don't even have tombstones, just small mounds of earth.
I sat up and saw that the Thunder Strike Sword was still there, and I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. But before I could relax for even a second, I frowned. There was a sachet made of human skin hanging from the hilt of the Thunder Strike Sword!
I reached out and stroked the sachet, not at all bothered that it was made of human skin.
After all, I've been playing with this kind of thing since I was a child.
It seems that scene wasn't a dream.
I've been taken on by a ghost messenger.
Scratching my head and standing up, I was surprised to find Luo Tianhe, Ant, and the others lying haphazardly behind a grave.
They actually made it out alive!
Was it done by that female ghost?
Without thinking twice, I strode towards Luo Tianhe and slapped him hard across the face several times.
"Holy crap, which bastard hit me?!"
Luo Tianhe opened his eyes in excruciating pain. Seeing it was me, his anger subsided considerably. He rubbed his face and asked, "Chen Yan, what the hell are you doing? It hurts like hell!"
I pursed my lips and didn't answer him, instead gesturing for him to wake up Old Knife and the Ants.
