There are too many ghosts and gods in this big temple in Qingdao now, and all sorts of people are gathering here. Ning Zhiheng couldn't figure it out no matter how hard he tried, so he simply stopped thinking about it. In the end, he would just hand it over to the Military Intelligence Bureau headquarters and let the director decide for himself.
Ning Zhiheng and He Siming exchanged a few more words before concluding their work report.
The next morning, Xu Yongchang got up early in his room at the Yunlai Hotel. Seeing that his suitcase on the balcony was safe and sound, he felt relieved.
He opened the window to let the cold air into the room, and waited for the indoor temperature to drop before bringing the suitcase into the room and carefully placing it under his bed.
Then unfold the cotton cloth, soak both layers of cotton cloth with kerosene, and set it aside for later use.
Soon it was dawn, and the noise outside became clearer. The agents at the Special Operations Headquarters had all gotten up and were preparing to return to Shanghai.
As one of the leaders, Xu Yongchang had his own private room, which made things much easier for him. After washing up and getting ready, he left his room and went with several other leaders to gather their men in their respective rooms and take a headcount. Before long, everything was ready.
At this moment, Li Zhiqun and Wang Hanmin were talking quietly in the middle of the courtyard. Soon, two cars drove into the yard. A Japanese major got out of one of the cars. Li Zhiqun and Wang Hanmin quickly went to greet him. They talked to each other, and Li Zhiqun gave Wang Hanmin a few instructions. Then he turned around and called a few trusted subordinates. They got into the car together and left with the Japanese major.
Xu Yongchang watched from a distance, unsure of what was going on. He glanced at the time; it was almost eight o'clock. When no one was looking, he turned around and went back to his room. He locked the door, walked a few steps to the bed, bent down, and took out his suitcase.
He opened the leather suitcase, then reached out and opened the smaller suitcase inside, revealing a tightly wrapped plastic sheet. He drew a dagger from his waist, gently cut a few slits in the outer damp cloth, then carefully wrapped two layers of cotton cloth around it, sealing it tightly. Finally, he closed the smaller suitcase and fastened the leather buckle.
He carefully put the small suitcase back into the suitcase, took a few clothes to cover it, and after disguising it, he quickly tidied up the items in the room.
Hearing the sound of vehicles outside, Xu Yongchang knew that the Special Higher Police had sent a vehicle. Without lingering, he picked up his suitcase, pushed open the door, and went out.
Soon all the personnel from the Special Agent Headquarters assembled. Xu Yongchang saw the window of one of the cars roll down. Major Yokota, the Special Higher Police liaison officer leading the team, and Fu Shengyuan, who was sitting in the back, both stuck their heads out and greeted Wang Hanmin. Wang Hanmin waved and got into another car. The other personnel also got into the cars in batches and drove towards the airport.
The convoy quickly arrived at the military airport. The guards at the checkpoint checked Major Yokota's documents and official letters without doing much further inspection, and quickly waved them through. The convoy continued on its way, entered the airport, and arrived at the entrance of a waiting room.
At Major Yokota's call, everyone got out of the car. Xu Yongchang also got out, carrying a briefcase. At this moment, the car door opened, and Wang Hanmin got out first. He stepped forward and opened the back door for Fu Shengyuan, helping him out of the car. Xu Yongchang's eyes flashed, and he quickly took a few steps, grabbed Fu Shengyuan's other side, and gently helped him out of the car.
"Thank you for your help!"
Fu Shengyuan recognized Xu Yongchang and, not knowing his identity, quietly thanked him.
"This is Xu Yongchang, the squadron leader of the Second Battalion!"
Wang Hanmin introduced himself, and Fu Shengyuan nodded in acknowledgment. Xu Yongchang smiled but did not speak. Wang Hanmin knew that he was not good with words, so he did not take it to heart.
At this moment, Ding Mingzhen, who got out of the car from the other side, saw that her husband was already being helped by someone, so she turned around and opened the trunk. Inside were several suitcases and two wooden boxes. Zhao Kai, who was standing next to her, was also very observant and quickly called several of his men to run over and help.
Ding Mingzhen hurriedly instructed, "Be careful, there are some antiques and a few pieces of porcelain inside."
These suitcases contained the personal belongings of Fu Shengyuan and his wife, and more importantly, their savings accumulated over the years. Fu Shengyuan held a high position, and Ding Mingzhen was a young lady from a wealthy family. They had accumulated a considerable fortune over the years. Since they were leaving Qingdao this time, they feared they would never be able to return, so naturally they had to take all their possessions with them.
"Yes, madam, please rest assured, we will handle it with care!" Zhao Kai agreed repeatedly, instructing everyone to carefully lift and place the items before entering the waiting room together.
Everyone entered the waiting room and rested for a while. Xu Yongchang helped Fu Shengyuan to his seat and then stepped aside, his eyes fixed on the pile of luggage that Fu Shengyuan and his wife were carrying.
There was quite a bit of luggage, which presented a good opportunity. Xu Yongchang tried to stay as close as possible so he could volunteer to help transport the luggage and find a chance to sneak the suitcase in. That would make things much easier.
Another ten minutes or so passed, and it was now 8:40. Xu Yongchang couldn't help but feel anxious. Although Ning Zhiheng had told him that the time for yellow phosphorus to fuse with kerosene was about one hour and twenty minutes, Xu Yongchang was still unsure. Forty minutes had already passed.
Shortly after, Major Yokota walked in and whispered to Wang Hanmin, "Director Wang, General Kagesa called. Director Li has some matters to attend to, so you don't need to wait for them."
"Alright, we won't wait!" Wang Hanmin nodded in agreement.
Xu Yongchang, who was not far away, heard it clearly and couldn't help but feel sorry for Li Zhiqun. He had actually given up boarding the plane at this time and stayed in Qingdao. This time, there was one less assassination target. Wasn't this a waste of a good opportunity?
