In the office of the Kagesa Agency, Haruki Masayoshi was giving a detailed report to Kagesa Hiroki about the findings of his investigation.
"It has now been determined that the person who acted as a go-between in the Wanmulin case and pleaded with Chairman Fujiwara was Su Yue, the Secretary-General of the Municipal Government."
“So it was him!” Kagesa Hiroki nodded slightly. He was well aware of Su Yue’s background, being Katsuta Takashi’s classmate and the only Chinese official who could be considered close to Fujiwara Tomohito.
Haruki Masayoshi continued, "Yue Sheng sent someone to bribe Su Yue with a large sum of money, and then through Su Yue, he pleaded with Chairman Fujiwara on his behalf."
Kageyama Yuuki could roughly guess what was going on, and snorted coldly: "Which Chinese politician isn't greedy for money?"
Although Yuuki Kagesa was dissatisfied with Su Yue, given the relationship between Takashi Katsuta and Tomohito Fujiwara, he was not going to actually punish Su Yue.
"This time, the Green Gang invested heavily. It is said that in order to smooth things over with Chairman Fujiwara, the Green Gang swept through all the famous shops in the antique market, forcibly bought up many valuable antiques and treasures, and almost caused a death over a few ancient rubbings. Moreover, they handed over two large properties in very good locations in the French Concession. Only then did Chairman Fujiwara speak up for Wan Mulin."
During this period, Ning Zhiheng ordered the intelligence department to secretly spread news of his deal with the Green Gang in Shanghai and the foreign concessions. Qing Qingzhengliang found out about the matter with almost no effort.
Kagesa Yuki couldn't help but shake his head. Fujiwara Tomohito had gained benefits, but it put him in an awkward position. Wang Tianhai was very dissatisfied with the release of Wanmu Lin. However, weighing the two sides, he naturally knew which side to choose.
"Forget it, we won't be staying in Shanghai for much longer anyway. Next month we'll move to Nanjing with the new government, and we'll have less contact with each other after that!"
Kagesa Hiroki's current focus is entirely on the reorganization of the puppet government and the relocation of the capital. Having understood the reasons behind the matter, he has lost interest in paying any more attention to it.
In Luo Xingchao's office at the 76th Special Agent Headquarters, the telephone on his desk rang. Luo Xingchao picked up the phone, but it was Li Zhiqun's voice: "Xingchao, come to my office!"
"Yes, Director, I'll be right there!" Luo Xingchao quickly accepted the order.
He left the room, quickly went up the stairs, arrived at Li Zhiqun's office, knocked on the door, and entered.
"Director, you wanted to see me!"
When Li Zhiqun saw Luo Xingchao enter, he immediately said, "Xingchao, I just received a report that an explosion occurred in the western part of Shanghai. Jin Jianyuan, the director of the Second Bureau of the Ministry of the Interior of the new government, along with his driver and bodyguard, were killed. Could you please go to the scene and take a look? I suspect this is another thing orchestrated by the Military Intelligence Bureau. They've only been quiet for a few days."
"A bombing?" Upon hearing this, Luo Xingchao hurriedly nodded in agreement, "I'll go investigate the scene right away and report back to you."
Li Zhiqun then gave a brief introduction to the case. It turned out that the western part of Shanghai was full of casinos and opium dens. In particular, the Special Agent Headquarters had opened some of the largest casinos in Shanghai there, which were extremely profitable.
Director Jin was a regular at the casino and enjoyed gambling. Today, as he was leaving the casino, he got into his car and hadn't driven far when a violent explosion occurred, killing everyone in the car. There were no survivors.
The people guarding the casino were also from the Special Agent Headquarters. Upon seeing this, they quickly reported to the Special Agent Headquarters that officials of the puppet government had been killed in a bombing. Li Zhiqun immediately knew that it was the work of the Military Intelligence Bureau, so he handed the case over to Luo Xingchao.
Luo Xingchao did not refuse. After leaving the office, he immediately took Bi Wenxiang, the head of the criminal investigation department, and a group of his subordinates and drove to the western city.
Upon arriving at the explosion site, the agents from the Special Agent Headquarters were maintaining order. Seeing Luo Xingchao approaching, Wei Minglang, the newly appointed captain of the Second Action Team, quickly stepped forward to greet him.
The casino in western Shanghai was located in the area under the jurisdiction of the Second Brigade, and he rushed over as soon as he received the news.
The two shook hands and greeted each other before arriving at the scene. They saw a car in the middle of the road that had been blown to pieces, with all the windows shattered and a door lying to the side. Luo Xingchao peeked out and saw that the three men inside the car were bleeding from all five orifices and lying on their seats.
Wei Minglang explained, "Director Luo, from my observation, the explosion was very powerful. It was probably caused by high-energy TNT. I asked the casino staff, and they said that a few beggars had been circling around this car before, and later they even had an argument with the driver who was watching the car. The driver even left the vehicle and chased after the beggars. I guess that's when someone tampered with it."
Before becoming a rescue officer, Wei Minglang was a trained Kuomintang agent, so he was no stranger to these field operations and could immediately see the reason for the case.
Luo Xingchao wasn't actually interested in the case itself, nor did he intend to really investigate it; he was just going through the motions. Upon hearing Wei Minglang's words, he immediately nodded and smiled, "Captain Wei's eyes are sharp and his observations are meticulous. This case wasn't complicated to begin with, and I didn't really need to handle it. I could have just handed it over to Captain Wei. It was only because the director requested it that I had to make this trip."
Actually, this area originally belonged to Wei Minglang's jurisdiction, and Li Zhiqun could have easily called on Wei Minglang to handle it. However, Li Zhiqun considered things more carefully and ultimately decided to let Luo Xingchao handle the matter.
Wei Minglang knew perfectly well what was going on. He couldn't help but smile bitterly and said in a low voice, "Director Luo should know my situation. It turns out that it was Deputy Director Wang who recruited us. We thought we had a powerful backer and could find a safe haven, but we didn't expect that after going to Qingdao, he would never come back. We were already under suspicion, and now that Deputy Director Wang is gone, I'm afraid everyone is wary of us. How could they possibly entrust us with this case involving the Military Intelligence Bureau?"
